Notwithstanding the ZoYaan nikiah... AsYa are in a de facto relationship. Is there such a thing in India. I know there are some rights awarded based on this, like in Australia you can't be forced to testify against your de facto. How about common law marriages, like do they exist? The spoilers triggered my interest in Indian law...

All i know is ZoYaan nikaah is invalid.. so it makes no difference to me. And AsYa relationship is that of a typical bf and gf.. that when Dil leaves for SM.. will become a live in..but i find nothing wrong with that. AsYa will be married eventually so doesnt really matter legally to me.

Yes but typical bf or gf doesn't really have any rights. Like you can't go to the hospital and make decisions about your bf/gf treatment. Other differences like filing taxes and stuff. I was just wondering if there is such a relationship in India. Your confusion answered my question. You need to get married to have any legal rights. In Canada, common law partners can make treatment decisions and when filing taxes you checkmark common law relationship in the marital status bar. Common law marriages aren't the same thing as de-facto relationships, but we don't have those. Australia does.
