LIVING IN IS NOT A CRIME

Actor Sushant Singh Rajput tells Shikha Shah why moving in with Ankita Lokhande, his partner of four years, has been the best decision of his life so far

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

After dishing out hits like Kai Po Che! and Shuddh Desi Romance,Sushant Singh Rajput is being billed as the next big thing in Bollywood.Hes on a personal high as well.In a free-wheeling conversation,Singh lets us in about his definition of love, his priceless bond with girlfriend Ankita Lokhande, and why he thinks living together changed the dynamics of their relationship.

Expectations kill relationships

If staying with someone gives you psychological security, its love.Just the idea of being with that person should make you feel loved and sheltered.I dont think any relationship can survive if one person is more dominating and controlling than the other. If you want to be with someone, you will figure out all possible ways to be with that person.Expectations kill relationships.I believe in investing time, emotions and efforts in a relationship rather than expecting anything out of it.

Ankita is my true love

I am very fortunate to have Ankita in my life. Its been four-and-a-half years since weve been together. We met on the sets of the TV show Pavitra Rishta, and hit it off instantly.Since wed shoot for hours a day,we got used to each others presence. It became difficult to handle the distance when I got into films. The best thing about her is that she is honest and transparent. She is not a hypocrite. She never asks or expects. This year,I have been really busy shooting for films and have hardly given her time;but she understands that I am busy and I respect that. There is no space for excuses and explanations in our relationship.I dont need to give her clarifications on any news article thats out.I am not an expressive person and it can get difficult to deal with people like me.Yet she somehow manages to figure out whats disturbing me and thats the reason we connect so well.Ankita is all the things a man ever dreams of.

A country full of hypocrites

I dont know what a marriage is but I strongly believe in the concept of live-in relationships. They give you an opportunity to know the person you wish to spend your entire life with. Our country is full of hypocrites. They say something and do something completely different. They make livein relationships seem like a crime.I dont think living in is any different from marriage.Even in a livein, you are answerable to each other. Most couples living together manage their fin a n c e s jointly. The only difference between a marriage and a live-in is that the latter doesnt demand saat pheras and lifelong promises.
Ankita and I have been living in for four years. We never planned on having a litmus test and then deciding whether we should get married to each other. It just happened. But it did help us to know each other better. Now,we know that we can tolerate each others habits and idiosyncrasies (laughs). Were sure we wish to spend the rest of our lives with each other.

Keep the romance alive

To keep the spark alive in any relationship, its important to utilise
we time well.Whenever I am free,I make sure I spend quality time with Ankita.I share everything with her so that she is always in the loop. She should know and understand whats happening in my life.Small and simple things like holding hands and having a candid conversation are romantic.Silence can also be romantic.

RELATIONSHIP TIP

Its very important to trust one another. If your partner is asking you to inform her when youll be back,it may be purely out of her concern for you.But if she wants to know where you are,who you are with, all the time, its a sign of an unhealthy relationship

TFS bonne! 🤗

Dang! Entire interview on his relationship with Anki. That's quite a treat. I LOVE it! It kinda makes up for the lack of new Sushita pics from ZRAs. So they have been living together for 4 yrs? That means they moved in together after dating for 6 months? That's pretty quick. I guess they knew right away, they were meant to be together. ❤️ I can't say anything more at this point. I will come back later to gush some more. 😉

So true. I have never understood all the craze around candle lit dinners, flowers and all that. I mean yeah they are nice things but talking/gossiping😛 for hours together are defo more romantic!

Nice interview. But I wish the interviewer had asked him that if you believe so strongly in live-in relationships, then why do you ultimately want to get married, why not let things remain as they are since you are happy and believe live-ins are like marriages only. I would have loved to read about this, it would have made his perspective on marriage and live-ins more clear than what came out in the interview.

TFS Bonne.

BTW, just noticed that this interview is on the main page of Times Life, TOI's special Sunday paper, covering half of the first page with only an ad in the other half. Such things give me a high! :D

Oh wow! That's awesome!

I think Sushita are so committed to each other, they probably feel they're as good as married. Marriage is just a formality for them I think. I like how thoughtful, genuine and honest his answers are. 👏

My favorite line by Sushant so far...

Ankita is all the things a man ever dreams of. ❤️

Good to see that they are both so happy on their own and also in their relationship .They are both good for each other .

Very nice and romantic interview by Sushant but I still want to see them as Mr. and Mrs. Rajput one day ( of course when they are both ready for it ) ...
