For what came thru today was her essential decency and her respect and feeling for another woman's motherhood, no matter that she detests that other woman. That says a lot about Ruqaiya, much more that had been shown even by Smiley's version. Also, the affection and loyalty she has for Jalal's aulad.
And no, she has not broken off their friendship. What one says is not necessarily the same as what one means. If she had indeed broken off their friendship, she would not have that instinctive affection for his child, even one by another begum whom she hates. She is angry with him now, but that will pass.
When Jalal calls her to meet him, and she comes reluctantly, I think he was on the verge of telling her the truth from his side, but then Jodha barges in and the opportunity is gone.
Did you notice something from the Diwan-e-Am scene? The Mughal attire does not suit Jodha at all - she looks commonplace - whereas theheavy post-marrriage Rajput attire makes her look gorgeous. Then again, some of her reaction shots when Jalal was raging at the defendant as badzaat aurat were very weak - as he was roaring that she looked blank, not shocked and scared. Also, her tirades at her husband were far from impressive - they sounded like something out of a school play.
Despite all this, I liked the Diwan-e-Am scene, though I
gravely doubt if any 16th century woman, adultress on not, would by stupid
enough to advance those kinds of arguments in open court.
As for the
punishment Jalal decrees for her, I do not understand why Hamida and even
Mahaam seemed taken aback. That was the standard punishment for an adultress in
those days - death by stoning.
I loved Jalal's distilled fury, especially during
his sword practice. That scene was very well visualised and shot.
I was glad to see it all coming out into the open in the precap. It is not
clear if there was anyone else there, but I would imagine not. One thing Jalal
cannot face is to be branded a cuckold and derided by one and all. That is
why he says nothing when Ruqaiya is also present and Jodha accuses him. If she
had not been there, this would have come out then itself.
Well, my dear, as for the mudslinging, he can hardly be faulted for thinking what he does, can he? Why should he trust this woman who says all the time that she hates him? All the romance between them at this point exists only in the fervid minds of the forum waasis!😉
I am only surprised that he does not pull out his shamsheer, but that was very likely because he cannot stand the idea of a public scandal about a begum of his having cheated on him. Henry VIII did not care; he executed 2 wives for the same offence, one. Anne Boleyn, was innocent and the other, Katharine Howard, was not.

This has been the highlight for me in the last few weeks . This is the ruqayia that I have been waiting to see ! The ruqayia that jalal knows is in there somewhere despite her moments of madness . This is what he was talking about when he said no one can ever take your place. The one who has strength of character to make the right choices even as her heart breaks . As one who values loyalty he sees it in her . For jodha her loyalty and love will be divided over the many people she loves. But for ruqs she has an obsessive sense of loyalty towards him that shines through her tempestuous love for him . As a smart mine I'm sure he values that and her friendship and comfort that she offers . This is why i didn't find anything wrong with what he tells her last Friday. I'm glad the cvs redeemed her or we would be questioning jalals intelligence for giving importance to two crazy problem creating women .
I think it will be fascinating to develop the character of a woman who loved the same man for most of her life only to have it never retuned in the manner she would like , to be childless ,to continue to love that man and to never be able to escape her fate .add to that a liking for power ( though I think she hangs on to that because she has nothing else ) I hope the cvs do justice to that character . As for the rest , thanks for clarifying that . I haven't watched the episode , so was puzzled by ruqs saying that . Anyway will stop with my obsession for this character . The cvs might destroy her tomorrow again :)
Since I haven't watched , I will be back later to comment on the scenes . But I agree with your thinking . His punishment is in accordance with the era . As for jodha , I always felt she only looks nice in yellow as a dasi or a princess otherwise I'm not very impressed , looks or talent . Her scenes off late fall flat and fail to make any impact on me . I'm sure writer , director and actor are to blame .
I agree that he doesn't want to be labelled a cuckold and I also agree that he has no reason to question the doctor or trust jodha. In fact I'm glad he doesn't , it shows he is not bolwled over by her as yet which would be too soon . I don't disapprove his reasons for mudslinging , it's most necessary at this point . It's just something ifs rather not watch :)
