Thank you friend for making us aware of today's significance !
WORLD SCIENCE DAY FOR PEACE AND DEVELOPMENNT - 10- 11- 2013

Science investigates religion interprets. Science gives man knowledge, which is power, religion gives man wisdom which is control.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Celebrating the International Year of Water Cooperation 2013

The theme of World Science Day was chosen to contribute to the International Year of Water Cooperation 2013.

science for global sustainability: interconnectedness, collaboration, transformation.

Science and sustainability are two sides of the same coin.

Science for Water Cooperation: Sharing Data, Knowledge and Innovations

World Science Day for Peace and Development, celebrated each year on 10 November, offers an opportunity to demonstrate how science is relevant to our daily lives and to engage the scientific community, policy makers and the public. This year's theme, Science for Water Cooperation: Sharing Data, Knowledge and Innovations, highlights the key role played by Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in addressing global water challenges.

We must open a new chapter in scientific integration. Innovation and social transformation depend on our capacity to combine disciplines and create synergies among all sciences, natural, human and social, including local and indigenous knowledge.

Irina Bokova, UNESCO Director-General, on the occasion of World Science Day for Peace and Development

Science in our Daily Life :)

Science is awesome. It explains how birds can fly, why the sky is blue, and how gravity works. However, you can also use science to perfect the tiny details of your everyday life"from sleeping better to working smarter and even cooking better food.

We've all a bad day here and there, where everything just seems to go down the drain. Bad moods happen for a reason, and it's often due to "ego depletion""the idea that you've used up too much willpower to avoid something. The other thing that can make it worse? Thinking about the fact that you're having a bad day. In fact, believing in the concept of a "bad day" islikely to make your day worse right then and there. If you're having a short bout of stress, though, luckily there's a lot you can do to crush it right then and there.

We all know food science plays a role in your energy and weight loss, but science can also help your food taste better too. After all, cooking is science, and basic scientific principles"like measuring correctly or understanding how heat works"can make for a much tastier dish. While you're at it, be sure to check out these food myths (and these follow-up myths) that just won't die, and how science has debunked them.

There's a lot of misinformation that gets spread around regarding exercise (and, in other cases, misinterpretation of common wisdom). Luckily, with a little science, you can debunk these myths, exercise better, and prevent injury. Not only that, but science can also help you exercise more efficiently"that is, get in a better workout in less time. While you're at it, you can also use music to your advantage by creating the ultimate exercise playlist, based on the perfect rhythm to get your heart pump
Some of us spend half our careers procrastinating, wasting time on busywork, and otherwise working inefficiently. Luckily, a bit of science can help you become a better worker. Learn why we procrastinate and how to fight it, as well as the most common productivity myths that plague us. Work smarter, not more, and you'll find that work is a lot less...well, work.

Sleep Better Instead of Longer

When was the last time you put any real thought into your sleep routine? You may think sleep science is full of marketing gimmicks meant to sell you pillows and mattresses, but it's real: simple things like an evening ritual, your sleep environment, and when you go to bed make a massive difference in how rested you are the next day. Science even explains why the snooze button is bad for your brain. The right sleep schedule can go a long way, and even a simple power nap can keep you more productive when you're feeling drowsy
Everyone has a few skills on their list they'd love to learn, but it just seems so darn hard. Luckily, you can use science for better learning too. Read up on what happens to your brain when you learn a new skill, even if it's something "useless." From there, you can use that information to help you figure out the best learning method for you, get over that "I Suck" barrier, and actually learn something new.

Very good scientific analysis by you friend...really love to read such analytical reasoning...scientific judgements made upon statements !

Science is organized knowledge"Spencer

Science is facts; just as houses are made of stone, so is science made of facts; but a pile of stones is not a house, and a collection of facts is not necessarily science.

Science is the knowledge of consequences, and dependence of one fact upon another

There is a magnificent, beautiful, wonderful painting in front of us! It is intricate, detailed, a painstaking labour of devotion and love! The colours are like no other, they swim and leap, they trickle and embellish! And yet we choose to fixate our eyes on the small fly which has landed on it! Why do we do such a thing...only because of imagination ..and a strong desire to know the facts too !!!

I think the greatest achievements of science is to allow humanity to realize that our world is comprehensible. Through science, rational thinking, we can understand how the universe works.
If we don't understand how the world works, then everything is a mystery to us...! If everything is magical and mysterious, then we really don't work on logic anymore. The stagnation period . In essence, science is a perpetual search for an intelligent and integrated comprehension of the world we live in.
