PART 14
Like any other day, Geet monotonously walked into KC to find Maan's cabin empty just the way it's been since the past week. Maan was hardly seen at KC after his departure the other day with the mysterious lady, whose identity was still unknown. Geet and Adi tried their best to investigate about her details but gathered nothing frustrating Geet more than ever. Maan's absence and ignorance were testing Geet's patience as she tried her best to keep her cool during work hours but would end up snapping at something given her restlessness which would take a toll over her. Things at KM were no different as she would hardly see him and would only hear Dadimaa complaining about his carelessness and his busy schedule. Maan's absence jeopardized the working schedule of KC as it ran without supervision while Geet managed most of the work happening to be working under him. As she proceeded towards her cabin passing Maan's cabin, it reminded her about her confrontation with Maan the previous night but her thoughts were broken soon enough by Adi.
Good Morning Geet he greeted her with an enthusiastic smile.
Good Morning Adi Sir. She reciprocated with a faint smile. Adi who understood Geet very well by now saw through her and guessed there was something bothering her but decided not to probe in. Seeing her lost he finally decided to ask her.
Geet, is everything okay.? He asked, sounding unsure.
Yes Adi Sir. Has something happened.? Why is everyone so tensed..? Geet questioned hurriedly as she noticed everyone running around the office with tensed faces. Hearing her question Adi got distracted which in turn helped Geet in managing to avoid talking about her worries.
Yes Geet, there is some problem on the site which needs immediate attention and there are other things that need to be taken care of too. Sasha is busy with the Singhania's project, I have to take care of 2 more clients today so that leaves only you. You have to go to the site and sort out the issue, anyhow you are working on the project with Maan sir, so it will be easy for you to sort out the issue. Adi explained the situation to Geet, who was relieved as well as tensed hearing it. The thought of being away from KC and Maan's thoughts for a while relieved her whereas the problem to be dealt with worried her.
When do I have to leave.?
As soon as possible Geet, the earlier you go the sooner you will be able to return. I could have accompanied you but I have to manage here too, if we both go there will be no one here. You will be okay right.? Adi asked concerned.
Ofcourse Adi sir, don't worry. I will be fine.! I'll leave in sometime once I collect all the necessary papers. Adi sir, I was supposed to send a fax today, I'll leave it on my table please send it without forgetting. She replied with a smile.
I will send it. Geet , have you heard anything from Maan sir.? Adi questioned Geet, the only question she was trying her best to avoid.
I did see him last night. He was in his study, I went to talk to him about a file, he answered it but before I could ask him about anything else, he said he was busy and asked me to leave. He seemed upset so I didn't bother asking much. Geet answered him with a straight face, remembering Maan's continuing ignorance towards her.
Ohh, did he say something about where he has been the whole week without informing anyone.? I can't understand what's wrong with Maan sir, he was never like this before. It all happened after that lady visited the office... Adi continued while his words started irritating Geet but she somehow managed to compose herself enough to answer.
No he didn't say anything. Adi Sir, I think I should prepare for leaving before it's too late. I also have some work to finish before leaving. So excuse me please. She replied politely and left a confused Adi, who started at her retreating figure wondering what suddenly went wrong but decided to let it go thinking she might be tired from the workload and left the place too towards the pile of work awaiting him. Geet irritably entered her cabin cursing herself for being crazy enough to think about Maan since last night after their encounter. Her anger rose up a notch higher as she remembered his blunt refusal to explain anything, be it his ignorance or his disappearance. Seething in anger, she stormed around the room collecting the necessary files for her site visit. Finishing off her left over work, she strapped her bag and walked out of her cabin relieved to be leaving the suffocating place for a while. As she reached the basement, she saw the driver waiting for her but she wasn't ready to be accompanied given her current condition, she wanted to be left alone. Deciding to drive herself she dismissed the driver and drove out of KC premises towards the site. Her attempt to keep Maan out of her thoughts seemed worthless as she continuously thought of him all along her way until tears clouded in her eyes blurring her vision, ultimately cascading down her hazels. Pulling herself together she wiped away her tears and turned on the music as high as possible trying to confound her thoughts away from him. After a few hours of continuous driving Geet reached the site where time passed by quickly much to her relief as she immersed herself in solving the issue to the best of her ability in Maan's absence, remarkably impressing everyone with her skills. As her work wrapped up Geet noticed it was almost evening and needed to hurry up as there were fair chances of her getting late. Grabbing her belongings Geet hurried towards her car speeding back towards KC.
The evening approached and the sky turned dark, Geet's stomach growled in hunger as she drove back towards the city. Much to her irritating and bad luck while she drove through the deserted jungle, the car jerked to a halt scaring Geet. Cursing the car, she tried restarting it several times yet failed miserably. Giving up on it she stepped out of it into the chilly evening somewhere in the middle of a jungle and looked around for some help but there was none. The fear of the unknown crept up her spine as she looked around at the deserted place and finally decided to sit in the car instead of taking the risk of sitting out. Locking the doors, she fished out her phone and dialled Maan automatically in a hope of asking help but as the week sunk in, she disconnected the call and dialled KC instead. Despite all her efforts, the call didn't go through given the minimal network in the dense area. Panic washed through her as it got darker with each passing minute and there was no one she could approach for help. Settling in her seat, she looked around for a passing by car or a person whom she could approach for help but all she found was the creepy silence lingering around the car. The thought of taking help from a stranger worried her but alas she has no options after all. She juggled between her thoughts on whether or not she should approach for help when her phone rang breaking the silence and screaming for her attention as the number displayed was from KC. Wasting no more time she answered the call only to hear a disturbed line but some faint voices in the background. She ran out of the car into the open trying to talk into the disturbed call which soon went dead as the network fluctuated. Frustrated, she walked towards the thick bushes trying to get through the call when she saw Maan's call flashing bringing a longing smile on her lips.
Hello Maan.?? Hello.? She hurriedly spoke into the phone to get the same dead silence on the other side. She was inches away from his voice but failed to reach him again. Pulling the phone away from her ear she almost threw in on the ground in frustration when stopped herself in the right moment before the phone crushed into pieces. Disheartened she settled back in the car keeping her eyes on the road for some vehicle passing by. Minutes ticked by turning into an hour as she sat there alone in the dreading silence and loneliness of the road waiting for a vehicle to approach. All the while her heart didn't seem to let go of his thoughts, as she went back to reasoning his behaviour with different reasons. What she failed to understand was the fact that why it was bothering her so much. Being herself she would equally ignore anyone who would ignore her, then why couldn't she do this when it came to him.? Why was his ignorance bothering her to such extents.? It had been almost a week since they spoke properly, in this one week she couldn't stop herself from wanting him to speak to her, irrelevant to how much she would curse herself later.! Maan was affecting her much more than she wanted, which didn't bother her either much to her surprise. Her eyes started giving up and just as she was about to close her eyes exhausted from the tiring day, she noticed a faint ray of light ahead of her which became brighter as it neared her. Next moment she saw a car speeding up the road towards her but before she could move herself to seek help, it came to a screeching halt a few feet away from her car. Relief washed through her seeing a ray of help making her jump out of the car towards the other car. As recognition struck, her feet stopped on their own accord realizing it was his car. Geet stared at him as he sat with a horrified expression in the car, looking paler than ever. Seeing Maan did bring her heart alive as well as reminded her of his ignorance stopping her from approaching him, fearing his rejection.
Maan breathed a sigh of relief as she emerged out of the car and watched her face light up with happiness as she approached the car but stopped walking a few feet away from his car. He could clearly read the reluctance and pain on her face knowing his behaviour might have hurt her. The past week was no less than a nightmare for Maan, ignoring her presence and being ignorant to her questions was something crushing him inside out yet he had no option besides it. Every time he ignored her, the questions and the pain in her eyes would haunt him and flood him with guilt. As the week passed painfully, things seemed to get better putting an end to his problems and the first thing he strived for was to get a glimpse of his Mishty. He hurried to KC with a hope of seeing her but was disappointed to know she was visiting the site on his behalf. He waited for her to return but as time passed, it made him more agitated and restless seeing her not back yet. His restlessness increased with each passing minute and he ended up calling the site manager to enquire about her. As soon as he heard about her leaving long back, his restlessness knew no bounds and he left the office in search of her after informing Adi to keep track on her. On his way he kept trying to reach her but couldn't get through to her, scaring him further. It was midway he got a call from Adi informing him about getting through but not being able to speak to her. He sped along the road through the jungle and breathed a sigh of relief as he saw a car sitting on a corner of the road and finally spotted her giving his restless heart some peace.
Maan stepped out of the car his eyes on her, watching her intently and reading her reluctance and the happiness on her face. He skeptically approached her with the intention of crushing her in his arms but somehow brushed off his urge given the situation also her reluctance was holding him back. With slow steps he approached and faced her.
Geet, are you okay.?? He asked her, concerned as he stood infront of her. His question stirred Geet's bottled up emotions and she simply turned away from him walking into the bushes unable to hold back her tears. Maan watched her shocked as she walked away from him planting a fear within him. Though she was just a few steps away from him, she seemed miles away from him which hurt him more than anything else could.
