He is acting like this to convince (read push) madhu to come out of her Pativrata mode take the movie on her shoulders...

Remember what happened before the accident RK really wanted Madhubala to focus on the movie.

I think he knows that he cannot do well at the moment and madhu will not leave his side...ss he's deliberately doing all this so that Madhu decides to take up the meaty role.
