Ashamed of Indian Television?

You may get angry or laugh your head off, but yesterday in my chemistry class I was having an arguement with a friend about Indian Televsion.😛

My friend said he is ashamed of being Indian. I asked why. He said all Indians can do is copy. Then he said let's take Indian Television for example. He pointed out that shows such as KBC, Indian Idol...etc are all successful because they have been copied and that gives the western countries a reason to be proud: look India is copying our formats.

I then said those formats are international formats and have to be bought..this is the same in other countries.

What he said had angered me personally. I was going to mention the show with the highest TRP's for such a long period of time is none other then KSBKBT (not an international format), but before I could open my mouth my teacher said to 'shush.'

Another point I wanted to bring across is that where I live, the UK, students think it is embarassing to watch Indian TV and they never discuss it in school. I don't know how this conversation between my friend and me broke out. The whole class was listening....however one thing is for I ain't ashamed whatever they think. Are you?

Your friend has some extreme ways to present his views I must say, 'Ashamed to be an Indian because of some TV shows' as if TV shows are the only thing that makes us Indian 😆. Personally though, I also feel it'll be great if India can come up with some original and novel idea which can be copied world over. Even in Hindi movies plagiarism occurs so rampantly . It'd certainly be better if original script writers are given more chance to prove themself.

In USA the Country is a proud of us Indians. we are affluent, proud of our Mother and our Country and are respected in the society.

Oops!! I knw such anti patriots get on my nerves too...But calling a fellow Indian a *dog* reminds me how the British used to treat Indian and Dog as synonymous... 😡😡

Everyone copied and used our "Zero" and "Decimel Sytem" so they all should be ashamed of themselves. 😆

@magnificent me: You should tell your friend that all those shows have either the same production houses as the American/UK ones (Like Bigg Boss) or the Indian producers get the rights to produce those shows ( Like KBC). That way American-UK are getting paid by India. 😛 There is a difference between copying and getting rights.

Another point is ask your friend if he drinks Pepsi or Coke because that was first produced in America and then them companies decided to sell it to most countries. The companies set up in UK, India and other countries have employees of same country but the actual idea belongs to a different country.
