Rakhi is scared, but still isn't sure if she wants to lodge a police complaint. When did the crank calls start?
It began with messages, which I ignored. I am used to getting anonymous SMSes from people who have my number.
But three days ago, a guy called Rohit Malliya starting calling saying he was Don and would say abusive things on the phone. He said he'd kill me if I didn't meet him.
That's when I realised that he was calling from the same number from which I'd been getting obscene messages. How many calls and messages do you get in a day?
Frankly, I've lost count. I've been shooting for a music video and have been busy with that. But I must have got at least 50 calls from that guy in the last two days. Initially, I'd answer the phone and yell at him.
Then I realised he'd get excited every time I took his call, so I'd either switch my phone off or put it on silent mode. I've stored all his messages so I can use it as proof when I lodge a complaint. Why haven't you filed a police complaint yet?
Everyone has been advising me to go the police. But I am scared that it will be seen as a publicity stunt and the cops will inform the media and there will be tons of cameramen and reporters outside the station or my home. I don't want to be ridiculed by the cops.
The last time I went to Arthur Road jail to donate computers, they made fun of me. The only way I can lodge a complaint is if I wear a burqa and go there unnoticed. What's your course of action?
I spoke to Rahul Rawail and he has decided to help me. He even spoke to the Police commissioner and told him what I was going through.
Rahulji said the Commissioner had promised that someone from Oshiwara police station would call me and tell me what to do. But that hasn't happened yet.
I am continuing my work, but I'm worried that this man might just go through with his threats. Unless you take the course of law, how will you tackle the problem?
I know that. But if I do, everyone will think this is my way of getting publicity. I'm afraid to step out of the house.
The caller keeps saying he will throw acid on my face or shoot me with a bullet. I am in a very confused state because of the way the media has portrayed me.
In the end, I also am a citizen of this country and demand protection from the police. . |
