It doesn't look like Dhrit was bad and he wasn't mean either.It's just that he was blind in his sons love and hence turned a blind eye when it came to his sons.He couldn't look beyond them. Infact he did have a soft corner for Kunti and the Pandavs.But,he was easily swayed and Shakuni played his game very well and poisoned his mind.He wasn't able to differentaite between right and wrong.

yes when kunti touched his feet in yesterday's episode he was nice to her

The actor is doing a wonderful job.

Mahabharata is an epic because even though it was written eons ago...its very applicable even today.

Dhritrashtra was blind - he was insecure because of it...he felt that because of his blindness he was considered unworthy...and when when he did get to sit on the throne...he always felt he was not accepted as the rightful king and was living in Pandu's shadow...so his struggle for the respect and the right and added to shakunis koot neeti...made him do things that were not right...he wanted sons and he wanted them on the throne...but again his misfortune which he cursed so much...fell on him again because although Duryodhana was "conceived" before Yudhishtir ...Yudhistir was born before Duryodhana and as a result was hailed as the heir...and he saw history repeating again where his son had the misfortune of not being crowned king...this is purely from Dhritrashtra POV...not who was more worthy of being crowned king...even today there are people who are handicapped but choose to lead a full and happy life and theer are others who wallow in their handicap curse their fates and spend their lives wallowing in self pity...

He was embittered about the fact that he couldn't rule over his younger brother. Bitterness swallowed him, he indulged in the insult that a blind king cannot rule, he doused in self pity and constantly returned to this problem of being blind and helpless which was excuse to not take action as important issues arised. He was insecure, childish and pathetic, only saw things from his point of view, refused to take fundamental decisions regarding the right proprietar to rule, he was dependent on others to make decisions and he grew more and more weak in time being partial only to his son n his wishes.
Dhritarashtra arrogance as portrayed is a sign of his bitterness taken to the extreme, but I think as Duryodhana grows we will see the transfer of arrogance which will leave him frail, weak n filled with pity for his son.
The actor is great, hes sarcasm is noteable which takes his character further. That initial feverish energy will likely wane as his sons grow up, I'm curious as to how he'll be shown at an older age.

the why is see it, Dhritarashtra was not cruel by nature, but his ambition and his disability, created an cruel streak in him, born of jealousy and insecurity. Vidur was right that a blind man cannot be fit to rule. he does not have the physical site nor the foresight of wisdom within him, as such a man is constantly struggling with his own disability,insecurity, paranoia. to be even aware of the pain or the needs of others let alone and entire kingdom. everything said is a conspiracy, those who don,t agree with him are by default against him.

such a person would diffidently be cruel to others even if he didnt want to.

it is human nature to make others feel inferior to make yourself look superior. so a person who is already less then normal how much more cruel can he be to make others far less, then less then normal. he would be very cruel indeed.

a man who accepts his incapacities truly will find ways to better himself, in other aspect of life. like be a good son, a good husband, a good man,

all Dhritarashtra wanted was to be king and his son king after him, he never cared whether he was a good king. he was blind not only by sight but also blind to he suffering of his people, and their dislike of him apparently. and along with being blind he was also deaf to anything he didnt want to hear. it was prophesied that Duryodhan would be evil of nature, and bring shame to the throne of Hastinapur, yet he chose to ignore this to the very end.

dhritarashtra is shown outright -ve. im hating him like anything even more than shakuni himself.

shakuni is -ve we know it. but i always thought dhritarashtra was a good king who had a blind love towards his sons.

but these acts of dhritarahtra shown in the show are extremely disgusting and irritating. i so wish pandu was alive and hadnt got that curse😆

Dhrit was not cruel but weak due to his love for his son. So even if he did have affection for pandavas, but his preference was always his own son. All parents want to see their own children being successful no matter how bad they are. Love makes us blind, deaf and foolish, and it is the parents who are most bound by love than any other relation.
