It doesn't look like Dhrit was bad and he wasn't mean either.It's just that he was blind in his sons love and hence turned a blind eye when it came to his sons.He couldn't look beyond them. Infact he did have a soft corner for Kunti and the Pandavs.But,he was easily swayed and Shakuni played his game very well and poisoned his mind.He wasn't able to differentaite between right and wrong.
