What a terrible episode. Even at this stage of his life if Akbar cared so much about what the clerics thought about him, he would not have married more than 4 times, he would not have allowed a hindu wife to keep her religion.
The idea of an ambitious emperor like Akbar willing to abdicate because of pressure from some clerics is laughable. After what Akbar did in his reign many hardline clerics would have burned him at the stake but they never could because religion alone does not bring you political success, you need to have loyal troops on the ground.

The makers of this episode have bowed before political correctness. If religion is too hot to handle then don't take it up, but don't misrepresent the one issue that Akbar is most known for.

You are true to a certain extent.. But wasn't he just paying respect to his promises??
Maybe he was showing his extent of being desperate to keep up to his promises..

I think religion around that time had lot of power, therefore what they showed could be correct, I liked how the whole religious issue was wrapped up in the end!

I liked it too...
also, one must remember that for the sake of dramatic potential they did make Jalal visit a temple and bow before an idol which I don't think Akbar would have ever!
They are showing a very young Akbar here and whatever said, he will be at least slightly rattled by it all...
Even then, his monologue at the start that he'd have beheaded them made me go '😲'
I've never heard anyone say such a thing about a religious head...
So, they are taking care and doing it well...trying to strike a balance..

even then, this serial has possibly faced more protests than any other🤓

I don't understand why we break a sweat when they show jalal saying or doing something which is "not politically correct"? Akbar has made many right descisions but he has also taken some really rash steps . He is a powerful historical figure and not some always right mythological character. In the show he is shown to be far more mature and calm headed then he actally was at this age. I am glad that the makers touched this issue. Given that religion is such a touchy issue in our country the track was well handled.

👏
Actually, I was quite surprised during that scene when Jo was all alone surrounded by everyone else...and the emphasis on two different religions was being made...it was quite noteworthy...

Thank you

Yes, they were actually arm twisting her to submission. In fact, the authority with which jalal asked them to back off was commendable. He was wise enough to bring to their notice that "it is he who has the authority to have the say in the matter and no body else." No, I don't say this because I see something romantic in this. I say so because it was a matter directly related to the throne and the ruler therefore any interference from any one was unwarranted.

if the religious issue was such a big deal, it should have come up before jalal, a muslim, married a non-muslim and allowed her to practise her religious rites within the palace.
the writers are at fault.

but i guess the writers needed a new track so they came up with this one.

I think jalal bowing his head before kali mata is a way bigger deal than jodha being allowed to practice her religion. What he did in the temple was seen as idol worship, which is strictly forbidden in islam.
The feelings of the ulema on this whole issue of the hindu begum were probably building up this whole time and lastest incident of jalal bowing before a hindu god in a mandir was probably the last straw to break the camel's back. You have to remember that even though they were ulema and they were highly regarded, they couldn't just stand in front of jalal and openly rise against him for every small issue. It would have to be something major, which this definitely was.

Thankfully the letter from chrishti sahab came just on time to prevent the whole situation from turning into a disaster and jodha begum having to convert, so all ended well. However, I do think it was pretty stupid on hamida begum's part to rely on that to save jodha, when she had just blindly put her trust on her ammi jaan to save her.
I think the cv's are forgetting that communication in those days was very slow and all the letters would have to be delivered by road, through a messenger.
