| | | Rahul Saxena | Farah Khan never breaks a promise — even if it was made three years ago. In 2004, she had promised Indian Idol contestant Rahul Saxena a break in her next film.
This week (after three years), when Rahul got a call from Farah asking him whether he would like to sing for her next film, Om Shanti Om, he surprised her by bursting into tears!
Title track
Farah admits that Rahul was "one of her favorite contestants". She says, "I felt terrible when he was eliminated.
At that time, my promise to him was an emotional decision made on the spur of the moment.
That was three years ago. I know everyone forgot about it, but a promise is a promise. To his credit, Rahul never once reminded me about the chance to sing."
Talking about the song that Rahul has recorded, Farah says, "It's the title track of Om Shanti Om. Music directors Vishal and Shekhar have been very supportive of my choice. Rahul is singing the song with Sunidhi Chauhan, Udit Narayan and Shaan.
I am sure Rahul will get to record other songs too." Khushi ke aansoo Talking about 'the call' from Farah, 25-year-old Rahul says, "When she called me, I broke down.
After she had promised me that I would sing for her next film in the elimination round of Indian Idol in 2004, I never thought she would remember. After all, she's a big director.
 | | Farah Khan | Promises are meant to be broken, lekin phir bhi kahin na kahin dil mein ek vishwas tha as she would always reply back whenever I messaged her. That kept my hopes up. Three days ago, I got a call from her telling me that Vishal-Shekhar would be calling me to sing for OSO."
What was his immediate response? "At that time, I got very emotional and could barely talk. Later, I messaged her expressing my gratitude.
The fact that she remembered, acha lagta hai. I respect her not because she's giving me a chance, but because she believed in me. It's a dream come true to get a break like this."
Rahul is from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, but shifted to Mumbai in 2004. Since Indian Idol, he's kept himself busy through shows and recordings of film songs.
"I have recorded for Sajid-Wajid, Jatin-Lalit and other music directors. I was never a star in Indian Idol so I could not approach music directors. You can approach music directors only if you've made a mark."
He's not met Shah Rukh Khan yet. "I hope to soon. I have always liked that spark in him. Sonu Niigaam and Sunidhi Chauhan are my inspirations as singers. They sing with such dedication and put so much emotion and passion in their songs." |
