I am confused. This is a short update this time. Why? Because I received an email saying that my updates had become too long? I know many people requested long updates, and when I gave them...I got requested short updates. There's just no pleasing everyone I guess lol. I'll just stick to alternating. Don't confuse yourselves too much with this update, the flashbacks between the party time and RK telling the story time will be obvious with the breaks I put in between. The rest of the happenings of Madhu's drunk night will be revealed in the next update, such as how she got into RK's clothes. Anyways, enjoy!
-Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk.-
Chapter Eleven - The Flashback
"After I dragged you away from the party..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Noo, let me go! I WANT TO DANCE."
"Madhu, your ankle will get worse. Shut up and come with me."
"Let me GO!"
I pulled my arm free and turned back towards the banquet hall. I swayed and limped all at the same time due to the alcohol and my ankle.
"Fine. Suit yourself. Find your own way home."
I continued to walk away as RK yelled behind me. I raised my hand and waved good-bye as I continued to walk away with my back towards him. I heard a door close behind and the start of a car engine. I entered the building, ignoring the sounds from behind.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Then just minutes later you came running out of the banquet hall...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I noticed RK's car still parked in the parking lot. I ran towards him. I opened the door and quickly sat inside. I turned to my left to see RK leaning back against the door with his body faced in my direction. He stared at me, waiting for me to say something but I kept silent.
"Done dancing? Or do you want to go back?"
"I want to leave."
"That's more like it. Driver, take us home."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"When we got home, you walked inside and headed up the stairs. I called out to you, but you ignored me, so I followed you instead."
Everything seemed like a blur. I couldn't remember anything at all from the previous night.
"Where did I go...?"
"Maybe if you'd let me continued, I'll tell you."
I fell silent, knowing he was my only hope when it came to finding out about what had happened.
"You walked straight into my room."
"WHAT. Why!"
"How am I supposed to know? I have better things to do than interpret your behaviours. Anyways, you walked into my room and I followed you inside. I grabbed your arm and spun you to face me. Then..."
He stared into my eyes as I waited for him to continue but he kept silent.
"Then...?"
I gulped, fearing what happened next. I continued to stare into his eyes, hoping he'd feel bad for me and tell me the rest of the happenings from last night.
"Then you stared up at me with those same big, brown eyes..."
He kept trailing off, as though not wanting to continue.
"And...?"
"You know what? Screw this. You can figure out what happened yourself."
RK got up off the bed and was just about to walk away. Instinctively my hand reached out to grab his. He froze in his steps and slowly turned to look down at my hand grasping at his. Then he raised his eyes to look into mine. I quickly let go of his hand and looked away. I whispered in a low voice while avoiding his gaze.
"Please just tell me what happened. I need to know."
There was an eerie silence in the room for a moment, and then his voice broke the silence. I looked up at him but he looked away as he spoke.
"You wrapped your arms around me. I gently pushed you away. You started crying. You began talking about your family. You wrapped your arms around me again and sobbed into my chest. I let you. Only because I was the reason you had consumed the alcohol, which tends to enhance feelings and bring out the truth in people."
I guess he did have a soft, considerate side to him after all.
"And you said I..."
He trailed off again.
"Huh?"
"Nothing, never mind."
"No, tell me."
"It's not important."
"You're hiding something, obviously it is important."
"How'd you know?"
"Tell me RK."
"Fine, if you really want to know...y...you said I'm...hot."
RK smirked.
"Seriously? Just tell me the truth."
"There is no truth."
"I know you're hiding something from me."
"So what if I am. I'm not obligated to tell you every single thing on my mind."
"I'm not asking to know every single thing on your mind. I just want to know what I said to you."
"It's not important. Let it go."
"RK..."
He gave me an odd look as I called his name.
"Don't call my name like that."
"Like what?"
I looked at him confused but he turned his back towards me.
"You said I was the only one you had left."
The room fell silent. I could suddenly hear the ticking of the clock and the pounding of my heart. It was as though time had come to a standstill and all that stood before me was the truth.
They say that alcohol brings out the truth in people. And that was the bitter truth that hid deep within me; the bitter truth which had surfaced.
He was all I had left...and there was no denying that.
