Part 3

Mr. Gupta turned towards Khushi."Will you marry him?"

"Yes" Khushi whispered.

Khushi & Arnav went to Khushi's bedroom. Arnav sat down beside her & put his arm around her to comfort her. Khushi turned her face into his hard chest & sobbed. She spent the rest of the night in Arnav's arms.

Mr. Gupta spent the rest of the night playing cards with Dr. Joshi.

Next day...

Dr. Joshi came downstairs to the dining room where Arnav & Khushi were having dinner & informed them that Mr. Gupta was out of danger but not fully recovered.

Khushi finally relaxed, but Arnav just raised his eyebrow at him.

Dr. Joshi looked at Arnav nervously.

"Do you think dad will recover soon, Dr. Joshi?" Khushi asked

Dr. Joshi avoided Arnav's stare & said. "It's difficult to say my dear. He wants you two to get married. You can say that he's clinging to that as a reason to live."

Khushi looked at Arnav before asking the doctor, "What will happen if he starts to recover and we"we tell him we've changed our minds?"

"He'll have a relapse" replied Arnav & turned towards Dr. Joshi & asked "Won't he?"

Dr. Joshi looked at Arnav & said. "You know him more than I do. What do you think?"

"I think he'll have a relapse" said Arnav.

Khushi was sitting in her bedroom. She didn't understand how to react. She couldn't refuse her dad or else she might lose him but she also couldn't marry Arnav. She needed to find a way out of this dilemma for her & Arnav's sake. She knew Arnav said yes to her dad because of the attack. First Abhi left her & now her dad was ill. Her dreams of a happy home, with a loving husband at her side and a baby gurgling in her arms, came back to mock her. An image of Abhi's handsome, laughing face appeared to taunt her; she closed her eyes, refusing to shed any more tears for the faithless man she once loved.

Khushi's POV

No, I won't cry. It's high time to move on. I'll show Abhi that I'm not weak. I don't give a damn about him. I'll give life & love a second chance. But first I need to find Arnav & plan how to get out of this mess.

End of POV

She came out of her bedroom and went looking for Arnav. Abhi had left her, but Arnav was here and he'll help her think of some way out of a marriage neither of them wanted.

Khushi went to his dad's study & saw Arnav standing there.

"Arnav" she said quietly.

Arnav looked at her.

"What are we going to do?"

"About what?"

"About this outrageous idea dad has of seeing us married."

"Why is it outrageous?"

Khushi looked at him & said calmly and frankly. "It's outrageous because I don't want to marry you."

His eyes hardened. "I know that Khushi."

"You don't want to be married either, right?" she said

"Yes"

Khushi waited for him to say something else.

"But our marriage could give each of us something we do want."

"What is that?" she asked

"You want to move on & want a fresh start. If you're honest with yourself, you'll admit that you want to show Abhi, and everyone else, that you don't give a damn about him. He meant nothing to you"that you forgot about him as easily as he forgot about you, and you went on with your life. And" he finished"I want a son."
