AkDha rode on; it was afternoon- the sun was high up, shining brightly in the sky. Jhansi, the horse was tired and began acting crazily making them bump into each other a couple of times. They needed a break, the heat from the sun and the awkward silence was choking them.
As Jodha pulled to a stop, the sight in front of her was breath-taking. Ahead was thick dense forest inviting them, the occasional cooing of birds still loud enough for her to hear.
"Yeh sunsaan jungle mein kaise aagaye hum.. "
"Ruk kyu gayi hai Jodha begum yaha bohot dhoop hai, ghoda chalayiye..."
"Haan tho chalathe hai na.. hum bas soch rahe hai ki hum aaye kahan par..."
Jodha trailed off sighing that he finally broke the silence.
"Kya.. mutlab aap ko nahi patha ki hum iss waqt kaha hai? Jodha begum aise kaise kar sakti hai aap? Hum raastha bhatak gaye? Aap kabhi khud k bare mein sochti nahi hai.. lekin humare bare mein tho sochna chahiye tha, ki humara kya hoga? Humare bina humare sultanate ka kya hoga jo-"
"bina waaris k hai, yahi kehnewale the na aap?" she shot back slightly annoyed at his dramatic statements.
He laughed. Didn't he confess he loved teasing her?
"Kya baat hai Jodha begum.. aaj-kal aap humare dil ki baat bhi bakhoobi samajhne lagi hai? Pehle tho humari kahi hui baat bhi aapko samajh nahi aati thi- fir ab? Amer ne aap ko badal diya hai begum.."
She ignored his comment.
"Aap shaanti se baithe rahiye.. hum neeche chalke dekhte hai.."
*BG tune of AkDha plays as he smiles seeing her*
A few minutes later he descended the horse to join her, taking a look around.
"Jodha begum.. hume patha hai aapko jungal ka nazara pasand hai. Aap aise hi dekhti rahengi tho kaise aage badhenge hum? Aap pehle yeh tho bataayiye ki aap hume kahan lejaa rahi hai.."
"Humare paas naksha hai.." she replied angrily.
"Haan tho dikhayiye na.."
She pulled out a map, opened it up for him and began explaining the route they would take. His hand which caught hold of other end slightly made its way to cover her hand (which was holding the map).
She was so engrossed in her explanation that she almost failed to register the warmth spreading across it. Oblivious to what she was saying Jalal kept staring at her, his usual smile still in place, his hand lingering over her's.
"tho humara safar kuch doh teen din mein pura hojayeg- Aap nahi sunn rahe na?" She asked noticing the dreamy smile on his face.
He smirked and she jumped pulling her hand away from his, dropping the map in the process.
"Agar sunne ka mann nahi tho pucha hi kyu.." she was angry now.
He dint know why he loved to stare at her. Why he was happy to see her reacting to him? Be it her anger, be it her smile or her embarrassed face or her angry expression- everything was special. She made it feel special. She saw a touch of embarrassment in his face before he covered it up.
"Jodha begum aap ko raastha maalum hai.. tho hum jaanke kya karenge? Hum tho bas dekhna chahte hai ki- aap iss safar k liye tayyar hai ya nahi?"
She ignored his remark again.
"Ithna ghana jungle... kaise paar karenge hum akele?" she mumbled staring at the vast greenery in front of her.
"Jodha begum, aage ka raastha aur bhi khatarnaak hai. ab bhi waqt hai aap k paas, aap chahe tho wapis Amer laut sakti hai.."
She looked at him with pride in her eyes.
"Hum unn mein se nahi hai joh musibat se bhay-bheet hoke muu modle.."
He smiled. He knew she was fearless, his fiery begum.
"Aur haan agar aap ko apne ya apni sultanat ki chinta ho rahi hai tho aap wapis jaa sakte hai.."
Her remarks made him laugh again.
"Kyu.. Kyu has rahe hai aap?"
"Aap bhi na Jodha begum.. kamal ki hai. Aap ko kya lagtha hai ki sab aapko acche thehraaye? Aanewale kal mein, ithihaas k panno mein yeh likha jaye ki aap, Jodha- Amer ki shehzaadi kitni jaabaz hai! Par unke shohar, yani hum- Hindustan k shehensha, sultanat k badhsah.. apni begum ko beech jungle mein chod aaye? Hume yeh badnaami nahi sehna hai Jodha begum. Humne faisla liya hai ki hum aap k saat rahenge. Aur aakhri dum tak rahenge"
*BG tune plays*
Her eyes widened at what he said in the end. She faced him with a shocked expression, trying to bring her heart beat to normal.
"Aapne abhi jo kaha.. uska arth kuch aur bhi ho sakta hai.." she managed to speak, calming down a bit.
Jalal didn't know what came over him to say that he'd be by her side till he died. Well, he was just emphasizing his point, he convinced himself. It was not like he was in love with her- Shehensha can not love remember?
"Kuch bhi bolne se pehle insaan ko sochlena chahiye.." she added.
"Agar hum sochte tho shayad tab bhi hum yahi kehte Jodha begum.. ki hum aap ko chod k nahi jayenge.."
*BG-Ishq hai woh ehsaas*
She couldn't help but smile a bit. This was definitely a new side of him she was seeing. His words boosted her confidence that she'd be successful in this mission and assured that she wasn't alone here.
" aagey chalke rukein? Yaha bohot dhoop hai." he suggested.
She agreed, feeling thankful that the conversation ended, but couldn't help but wonder what made him say it.
He on the other side was justifying his words. How could a husband leave his wife all alone in a forest? He was just fulfilling his duty and of course his promise to Menawati.
They stopped for a break near a lake in the forest; the cool breeze, the rustling sound from the trees soothing their tired souls. Jhansi too was relaxing, grazing across the green fields.
Jalal and Jodha shared the meal that Jodha had brought him. Once again Jodha surprised him again offering the entire meal to him, but he insisted so they shared it.
"Aap bhooki rahengi tho log humare baare mein kya sochenge? ki ek shehensha hokar hum apne begum ko khana thak nahi de paaye? Isliye thoda khalijiye.. haan agar aapko darr hai ki aise khaana baatne se humare beech mohobbat badhegi... tho woh alag baat hai!"
"Kya.. kya keh rahe hai aap? Hum sara bhojan aap ko de rahe hai. kyu ki aap mere saat aaye hai. Agar hume pehle patha hota tho hum aap k liye bhi bhojan le-aate na.."
"Jodha begum ab ko sab kuch pata hai.. fir aapko yeh kaise nahi pata ki aise ek hi *ehem😛* .. mein khane se shohar-begum k beech mohobbat badhti hai?"
"Patha hai.. magar hume koi darr nahi. Mohobbat hone k liye aap k paas dil tho nahi na.. isliye.."
She shot him an angry look and he just smiled.
"Hum humari nahi aapki baat kar rahe the.."
She shook her head. It was better not to argue with him, she thought and the fiasco ended.
He collected some leaves, fruits which might be useful throughout the journey. After an hour or two they were off again.
"Aap chahe tho hum ghoda chala sakte hai.." he offered.
"Lekin aap tho keh rahe the ki aap nahi chala payenge aap ka ek haat"
"Haha humne kaha aur Jodha begum aap ne yakin kar liya? Waise agar hum aise nahi kehte tho kya aap hume aane deti aap k saat?"
"rehne dijiye.. hum chalaayenge. Aap ko nahi lagta ki bohot natak karne lage hai aap aaj-kal?"
"Aap ko nahi lagta kuch acche pesh aarahi hai aap humare saat aaj-kal?"
There was no reply and he smirked.

A few hours later..
It was night time. Surroundings were pitch dark.
"Achanak ithni thand kyu hone lagi hai?" she asked shivering a little.
"Jungle mein safar karna aasaan nahi hai Jodha begum.. ithni thand mein na tho aap ghoda chalapayengi na hum. Kaafi thaki hui lag rahi hai, aaj raat ko hume yahi rukna chahiye.."
"KYA? Hum.. akele.. iss jungle mein.. aap k saat?"
She was horrified but he just smiled.
"Jodha begum ab tak tho aap akele hi thi, humare saat.." he reminded her.
"yeh jungle ithna ghana hai, kabhi socha nahi tha. Lekin accha hua ki yaha zyada bagh ya jungle jaanwar nahi rehte.." she remarked.
"Haan Magar baaghin tho rehte honge! (laughs) Chaliye rehne k liye koi jagah dhundhte hai.." he got down and began walking pulling the horse along.
Reluctantly she began following him as she got down again.

Next part- AkDha cute moments n later..Jalal woke up to find Jodha wasn't by his side. Jo was taking a stroll around, talking to Jhansi when she heard some sound from behind.
"Haan aapne kaha tha ki hum bahar na jaaye lekin.."
Her words died in her throat because it wasn't Jalal. Somewhere far... Jalal was terrified as he heard a faint scream.
