Chapter 24

I love you!

Arnav was abnormally silent throughout their bus journey to Devipuram, while Aman and Khushi talked million things forgetting his presence. But he did not mind, as he just realized them to be some long lost friends, which they were probably. But why it was paining a little at the left side of his chest, when Khushi's full attention was on the guy instead of him.

He was not jealous, period. But a little bit of insecurity was creeping inside him as he tried hard to ignore their talks. khushi's sniffling sound caught Arnav's attention and he turned to their sides abruptly. And then the next act just tore his heart apart. She was hugging him sideways, her head resting onto his shoulder. And the guy Aman, he was patting her head lovingly.

"I was so miserable after leaving you in such a condition, but I am glad that nothing happened to you. I could not thank Krishnettan for arriving at the exact moment, otherwise I would have lost you forever.."

She sniffled some more and Arnav's hands itched to wipe her teary face and gather up her in his arms. But he could not do anything lest let the guy hug his precious Khushi because she seemed comfortable in his embrace.

The bus soon reached Devipuram and Khushi had this horrified expression on her already pale face. She looked around as if sensing some trouble while Arnav raised his eyebrows at her as if asking what went wrong, suddenly?

"Palanisamy, he wont be too glad to see someone like Aman coming to meet me. He never leaves a chance to embarrass me infront of everyone ..."

Khushi sighed heavily while Arnav's comforting hands squeezed her shoulders. She met his concerned gaze and then she knew he had a solution for her problem.

"I'll just go back to Kodai and rent a room, because I am not done with the work I came here for.."

Aman said averting his gaze from their weird standing position. A slight swipe of discomfort flashed across his form and it did not go unnoticed by Arnav. There was something, something more and strong between these two and he would be damned if he did not find out about the same sooner rather than later.

"No Aman.. you can stay with me in my room, if you want to..."

Arnav offered like a gentleman and Khushi's eyes widened in surprise. She liked the idea instantly and he would never be safer than with Arnav

"No Arnav, I will be just fine...you don't have to trouble yourself, because of me..."

Khushi looked between the two men, who happened to play an important role in her not so important life. she smiled as they both conversed with each other easily, as if known each other from ages.

"Fine, if you are insisting like this, and Khushi has your trust on you...I can never deny..."

Aman said politely while they walked towards the resort and Khushi stood there watching them leave.

Arnav's thoughts were however clouded with some uncertainty, but his he schooled his expressions as better as he could at that moment.

They can't be lovers!! No they are not!!

Suzanne waved at the security officer with a dollar note and flashed a toothy smile before walking towards the main office with a boy to her side. He was trying hard to match her speed and he felt little short in front of her, as she was wearing this high heels, making her looking taller than she was, and some parts of her anatomy thrust out much to her own satisfaction.

Shyam rubbed his hands together while he elbowed Arnav, who was sitting on the roof top watching the happenings of the ground.

"She's kind of hot, but she really needs to work harder at some places, you know what I mean..."

Arnav rolled his eyes at Shyam's statement and tore his eyes away from Suzanne's figure. She was wearing this skimpy little black dress which left nothing to imagination. Who the hell wears such dresses, to a church not that they were having some sort of party in there, inside the church.

Arnav groaned and walked back to his room, while Shyam followed him half heartedly. He was not finished with the view/show which Suzanne put on for everyone. The policewala inside him wanted more and him being the newbie in this field, made him all the more grumpy at Arnav's sudden retrieval from the terrace.

"Dude... do you think she will..sl..."

Shyam's words died in his throat while Arnav's eyes spat fire at him, well almost burning him with the intensity of his one look.

"I was just kidding...and I know you wont appreciate me hanging out with your ex. I can understand well. And she is not my type.."

Shyam said walking past him and Arnav was aware of a slight smile spreading across his face at his friend's statement. The absurd man does not know how ill that girl is, and he would be damned if he did not stop him from pursuing her.

He was his best friend damn it!

"So, you are Ms. Schneider.."

Suzanne hoped onto her elbow and shifted on her seat giving her a top to bottom look of something similar to appreciation? Mother superior smiled at the childish girl in front of her and then her eyes darted towards her mother, who was staring at the wall pictures with so much interest.

"My mother, Samantha.. she's a housewife.."

Suzanne talked on her mother's behalf and the woman smiled at her dazzlingly.

"So, what brings you two here?"

Mother asked politely while she asked Arnav to come inside with a slight rang of the office bell. Arnav knew, this was coming before Mother called him. he was on office duty that day, and Sunday's were always like this for him, from past few years. But this was for the first time, he would be facing a complete liar in front of him since he started helping Mother with the office works on Sundays.

Arnav rushed inside, not meeting the curious gaze of Suzanne and her so called mother. His full attention was on Mother and the words left her mouth. He extended his hands towards Suzanne and she placed the pay cheque into his hands, which was probably a donation for the Orphanage and for the children who lived there.

"Why am I not surprised, Arnav Or.."

She stopped mid ways before completing her sentence and Arnav flinched at her words. He could not do anything but stay there until Mother asks him to leave. She was playing back and he was now at the receiving end.

"Hello...Arnav..you did not recognize me?"

Suzanne cooed batting her eyelashes and Arnav's hands fisted on his sides. Mother had this curious look on her face as she looked back and forth at Arnav and Suzanne's faces.

"Hey Suzanne, what a surprise. I am glad to see you here.."

He retorted back through gritted teeth and Mother recognized the displeasure in his voice while he

mouthed those words, politely?

"You two know each other?"

Mother asked little surprised while Arnav shrugged his shoulders in defeat.

"Yes we are batch mates.."

Suzanne said schooling her expressions and Arnav almost rolled his eyes at her words.

"Awe that's wonderful!

Mother exclaimed looking thoroughly at Arnav's now flustered face. Suzanne and her mother left the church after submitting the cheque to mother superior. Arnav, however managed to escape from there but mothers keen eyes had observed his plight.

Shyam was been soon asked to her office while Arnav locked himself in his room. he was fuming would be an understatement because his temper had reached new heights at the mere sight of the girl and her audacity.

"So, that went well , I guess?"

Suzanne's mother asked cocking her eyebrows while Suzanne smiled mischievously at her as if achieved something huge.

"More than well.."

Khushi plaited her hairs in hurry and rushed outside taking her dupatta along with her purse. she waved her hands at the watcher and joined Krishnettan and Aman for a ride to the park nearby. She was full of life and Aman felt himself falling more and more for her.

They had ice-cream and enjoyed few rides before getting Khushi back to the house. This was the time Aman hated the most because he couldn't get his fill of her in those wee hours, lest interact with her like never before.

He liked her and he was somewhat confident that she too was been affected. But there was something else which troubled his thoughts whenever he thought Khushi as his special someone. He came back from his trance as he felt her hands on his shoulders.

"Where are you lost?"

Khushi asked waggling her eyebrows while Krishnettan shot him a curious look. Aman cleared his throat and flashed a smile at them both, hiding his feelings probably.

"Guess what? They have asked me to get ready for an entrance examination so that I'd be able to appear in the public examination of SSC board."

Khushi exclaimed clapping her hands in glee while Krishnettan and Aman crushed her into a hug.

Tamarai asked Khushi the umpteenth time as what went wrong suddenly and the fact that Khushi has passed the interview with remarkable points left her confused to even think about any other option for her saddened form.

Khushi gave her mother a watery smile and left the house after finishing her work inside the kitchen.

Tamarai was however confused but thought of not pressing Khushi to spill everything, lest wait for her to share the same on her own.

Khushi walked towards Arnav's room, her heart in her throat as she looked at the fluorescent light flickering non-stop. She knocked on the door and Aman was the one who opened the door.

Arnav was sitting on the bed, a book in his hands, reading carefully.

"Krishnettan, he is very ill and doctors said that there is no possible ways to save him as it was too late... he wants to see you for once, before anything happens... you know what I mean?"

Khushi was already in tears and Arnav reached her sides without any ado. His one arm wrapped around her trembling form and she rested her head onto his chest, crying bitterly.

Aman looked at Khushi and then Arnav's strong arms that was wrapped around her petite form came into his view hitting him hard with it's reality and he knew that his presumptions were always been right about them.

He had noticed Arnav's insecure glances and the disappointment in his eyes during their bus journey to Devipuram. And he realize d the bitter truth that Khushi was so into him no matter how hard she tried to vary from those feelings.

"Khushi, tum theekh ho?"

Arnav asked still hugging her trembling form close to him. she nodded her head, her face still glued to Arnav's chest.

"I want to go, Arnav...I want to meet him one last time. But I don't know how to make this possible. Palanisamy will never let me leave, not even for a day.."

Khushi said wiping her cheeks and Arnav was trying hard to control his emotions as he felt like kissing her tears away. If, only !

"I'll think about something, don't you worry about anything at all..."

Aman watched the exchange and he knew he just knew that there's more to their relationship. It was like they were meant to be together. And he would be damned if he didn't leave them alone for few minutes and watching them all lost in each other was not a great idea either.

"Thanks.."

Khushi forced herself on tiptoes and pressed her lips onto his stubble-roughened cheek.

Arnav's breath hitched in his throat as her lips made contact with his cheeks and withdrew the same in lightening speed.

Khushi had her eyes down casted while Arnav's thumb came caressing her jaw line and lifted her chin slowly so that he could look into her eyes.

"I love you..."
