Interviews for the promotion of Ram Leela music were in full swing at Mehboob Studios yesterday evening, when we walked in to meet Kareena Kapoor Khan, who was incidentally Sanjay Leela Bhansali's first choice for the film.

While Deepika and Ranveer were getting ready to face the camera, Bhansali, the director and music director of the film, cancelled his appearance and chaos ensued. But Kareena, dressed in jeans and a printed top and looking slim as ever, was calm and candid as she settled down for a chat. Excerpts:

Let's start with Ram Leela. Do you think you missed out on something?

No regrets.

Bhansali and sources close to him said that he replaced you because he didn't want a married Leela?

Bhansali told me that he hadn't said that. He told my friend, not me. Pyaar karna aur shaadi karna kya paap hai? Right now, my priority is Karan Johar's Gori Tere Pyaar Mein and Shuddhi.

Do you think that your KJo film with Imran Khan Ek Main Aur Ek Tu should have done better at the box-office?

No issues. Ek Main Aur Ek Tu was a very special film for me. Imran and we complement each other very well. He is sugar and I am spice.

Are you doing the KJo-Ekta joint venture Badtameez Dil?

After six months. Not immediately. They are making some changes in the script. I shall start shooting for it when I am done with Shuddhi.

Why can't you shoot for Shuddhi and Badtameez Dil together at some point of time?

I have allotted 200 days to Shuddhi. I want to concentrate only on it, until it's over.

And you refused to give 180 days to Bhansali for Ram Leela unless Bhansali compensated you if the shoot exceeded 100 days? Have you told the same to Dharma Productions?

I am doing Shuddhi because I believe in it.

Hmmm... And now the grapevine says that you are doing Bhansali's film Gabbar that he is co-producing with Shabina Khan. Will you work in a film, which he will direct?

Yes. And I am doing a song in Gabbar for Shabina who is my friend.

Last month, there were whispers that you're pregnant...

Why do people speculate so much? If I have kids, speculations will begin which school I am enrolling them in.

Salman has recommended your name in Sooraj Barjatya's next...

I love Salman. He is family to me.

Its' said that post marriage you have added a clause in all your contracts stating that you will not do kissing and lovemaking scenes...

Says who? There is no such clause in any contract of mine. If I want to kiss, I shall kiss. If I am told that a lovemaking scene is integral to the script, I will consider it.

Singers and lyricists are castigated for songs with objectionable lyrics. Shouldn't actors be answerable too? I am referring your song Shake the Tooh in Gori Tere Pyar Mein?

I am an actor and my job is to entertain the audience. People have done worse than shaking the tooh. There's nothing vulgar about it. My niece dances to it. Why do we see films with a magnifying glass?

Unlike with other actresses, marriage hasn't slowed down your career. How is that?

I still have that hunger in my eyes. And I also enjoy life to the fullest. Tonight, I am off to Beirut to be with Saif, where I am also performing at Arab's Got Talent.
