If I compare India with even any south eastern Asia's countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand etc I feel the ladies there are more hard working and independent. Rich or poor everyone work.

These TV serials which present marriage as the goal of life for women and glossy clothes and make-ups only misguide young females of a false happiness that a marriage could bring.

People nowadays try to follow this lifestyle; spend lakhs/crores of money in a wedding, a one night event rather than keeping any saving for future.

They should show more practical stories for a struggling middle/lower-middle class girl. Such girls are progressive and always try their best to survive; they wont sit idly at home like statues and serve PAKODAs to illtreating mom/sister-in-laws.

Yesss 😃
And I am giving my 2nd SSB attempt in November as well... (Please wish me luck that I crack it this time 😊)
That show really had a deep impact on my mind, and I was equally inspired by Gehna's character in BV as well.
That may be just my POV and many will disagree with me but I have always considered that a husband must complement a wife and not be the reason for her weakness.
Countless girls in my school and college used to admire guys from defence backgrounds but when I used to suggest them to join in themselves, my ideas were shooed off saying this is just a boyish thing.
The problem with India is that our elders have made us grow up with mindsets that a girl's life can never be complete without a guy. Whether she loves him or not, she has to have the license of sindoor and mangalsutra so that the bad elements of the society don't consider her as available.
I was pretty impressed with Anandi's success as the village sarpanch but marriage made a drastic change in her way of thinking and made her a suppressed DIL only meant to appease her in-laws.
They give her freedom but only what they please like.
I had also liked the way Anandi refused to study medicine as she did not want revenge to set goals in her life, but again, she is now a goal-less person and considers keeping everyone happy her sole aim.
But "Try to please all, and you will end up pleasing none" is a very famous saying and that is exactly what is happening to her.
I hope she realizes the futility of her efforts and for once does what she feels is right instead of thinking about others' displeasure.

Pls dont compare Udaan with this show. Todays show cant compared with Udaan. It was based on Kiran Bedi's real lyf journy. And the lead was a young simple villiage girl who was brillient student and worked heard to be a supritendent of police. There were many strong woment characters on indian telivision who are far strong then Anandi. M agree with my friend who thinks Anandi is much lyk Jyoti. But even "Jyoti" (imagin)was much bolder and powerfull character then Anandi. Coz she didnt stop her social work or Anath Ashram work after marriage. But yes when it cums to stand for their own rights they are twinc sis and they become sentimental.

Wow, u r preparing for SSB!!? All my best wishes are with you.
I remember when I first time I saw a lady driving a gigantic truck in U.K; I remember the first time I saw a lady IAS officer as my client in a govt. project. It gives me immense pleasure.

I think time has come Indian ladies should give priority to their profession at least equally if not more than family. No slogans would re-establish woman's honour in the society than the woman herself.

Once all women share the responsibility of household in all manners automatically man-woman inequality would be diminished 😊

Dear Reader,

I think Anandi and Kalyani could be comparable as both of them were village girls and had to face enormous struggle in life. However Kalyani had a goal; Anandi did not. That might have set them wide wide apart.

As per wiki, the story "Udaan" is not based on Kiran Bedi's story but on Kavita Choudhary's elder sister Kanchan Choudhary who after several hardships went to become the first female Director General of Police..

Please follow the link below which I provided on the post itself.

Yes, Udaan was quite a memorable serial and was one of the reasons I had made up my mind to join the defence forces at a very young age 😊

Besides, Udaan has somewhat less relevance to BV case, but there were shows like Rajani (Doordarshan), Tara (Zee) and Saans (Star Plus) that have more relevance to this that how self-respecting women chose not to subdue to irrational demands of family, society or system.
This supposedly started off with the K-soap era when women protagonists started getting portrayed as picture perfect ladies, whether it comes to looks or expressions, dress-ups or actions. They had to be the one who have solutions to all problems, the first one to come up when a sacrifice is demanded, forgiveness personified (hubby could have endless Extra-marital affairs and one-night stands and still come back to his wife) and they would never ever make a wrong choice or decision.
I quite loved another show on a different channel because the DIL of the house was shown as someone very imperfect and still her family loved her for that.
Unfortunately, such shows end pretty soon and one's like BV continue for ages portraying how headstrong girls (read the child Anandi, Gehna and now Ganga) can modify their psyches to become self-sacrificing for their families and supposedly set examples for real-life women to follow that however wrong and crazy it may be, family should come first

@bold, Yeah, the current trend of a female protagonist being this pure white wholesome character and sacrificial lamb dressed in designer wear 24/7 and immaculate makeup which wouldn't run even during the most heart-rending of emotional breakdowns started with the K-soaps . It was amusing and entertaining at first but then every other show after that started following a similar pattern which was totally weird 😕. And now this is the Industry norm sadly. Where earlier shows like Udaan and Rajani were inspiring with their true-to-life portrayals, all that the K-soaps have done are to give extremely unrealistic expectations and inspirations to audiences which you cannot even relate to.

Thankyou so much for the post with so much sense..
These thoughts mirror mine from the serial's inception
I initially watched it waiting for a day to show that they wanna show child marriage as evil practice but gave it up when I found they had no such intention
This serial is like cigerrate packet.
They too come with a warning and so does BV which preaches morals after glamourising such evil practices
