Most IT companies these days BAN and BLOCK websites such as INDIA FORUMS and such. They do not allow people to access to such sites or even Yahoo Messenger etc.,

Web sites such as India Forums come as "Messaging/Chatboards" and users are blocked access to such web sites at work.

I think companies have a right to do that as their BANDWIDTH is being used for non-work related activities, and eventually the companies pay for the bandwidth and for this browsing. Also, people tend to get diverted from their work and could spoil the workplace.

Most companies even ban "blogging" . They also block access to SPORTS sites such as CRICINFO etc., and also some sleazy web sites as reported.

Someone had said that the company and the company owner are "TWISTED" if companies BAN/BLOCK such sites. DO you all think so?

What about the responsibility of people who work for these companies. Is it not unethical to use work related things for their personal use?

MYTH.. now u r mentioning CB and me online at all times of the day this is why he called u my evil mom 😉

I am glad that companies are bocking these sites.they are so addictive and can turn perfectly responsible and brainy individuals into forever logged in- "whatever" they like to call themselves. 🤢 🤢
No offense, I am talking about myself.

When N comes back, I am going to get him switch the main router from airport to linksys and then block IF during day time and unblock it only for few hours at night. Look at how pathetic I am and I am sure I am not alone. If someone employs addicts like me and does not block IF, they can kiss the company profit goodbye 🤢 🤢 🤢

I think well we can complain as much as wel like about this, but the truth is companies are right to block messengers and other sites. As when you are at work, thats wht u shuld b doing - work. 😆 and yup their profit is going the down the drain.

But oh well if they don't block it, it means we can party on at I-F, lol 😆

YES! in open culture any kind of restriction might impact negatively. Misusage is a possibility by some sections, track and take corrective measures. Cost will be involved. agreed but I believe individuals working in open environments are more productive and productivity will very well cover this cost.

Its absolutely unethical when assigned deliverables are impacted, not only net usage but any kind of personal work should not be billed. All comes to responsible individuals, can talk about me - if at all I go overboard with usage of work resources for personal work, I compensate by working from home or working during weekends without billing for that time. Finally I make sure my deliverables are never impacted. If they do, then before we come to know action is already taken.😆

Our university hasn't banned any site except the x-rated ones which are a no-no in any case, in this part of the world. I guess they know that between preparing, teaching, revising, examining, marking, and discussing student performances, we have hardly any breathing space The question of misusing office time doesn't arise; instead, we misuse home time by doing office work at home. I have prepared three grammar exams while reading and responding to topics on DM

Yes at our school, x-rated are banned and actually even some games sites they ban, lol but I-F not banned. 😆

I have been logged on to I-F, posting her, and doing 2 history essays. So yes much of my time is wasted doing work 😭so i end up multi-tasking between work and I-F. 😳

No personal business on Company time. And I support bann of all types of forums sites, YM, Msngr types of chat. Some of my friends companies do not allow them to even access Hotmail or Yahoo mail accts. And no email with attachements. Good for them.
