CSI is a show that follows a group of Las Vegas criminalists who are identified as Crime Scene Investigators. They work for the Las Vegas Police Department (LVPD) and use physical evidence to solve grisly crimes. The series contains a mix of deduction, gritty subject matter, and character-driven drama. Often an episode will contain a case with a backdrop of a personal story of one of the criminalists.

After a successful run of CSI: Las Vegas, the network added inCSI: Miami and CSI: NY, which weren't able to maintain the success thatCSI: Las Vegas did and therefore were cancelled after the 10th and 9thsesasons, respectively.

The series began with the regular cast that became popular in Anthony E. Zuiker's books, namely Gil Grissom, Catherine Willows, Nick Stokes, Warrick Brown, Sara Sidle, Greg Sanders, Dr. Al Robbins, Dr. David Phillips, David Hodges, Henry Andrews, Under-Sheriff Conrad Ecklie, and Captain Jim Brass. Over time the cast changed as actors moved on and now the new CSI Supervisor is D. B. Russell. The team also consists of Julie Finlay, Nick Stokes, Sara Sidle, Greg Sanders, Morgan Brody, Captain Jim Brass, Dr. Al Robbins, Dr. David Phillips, David Hodges, Henry Andrews, and Under-Sheriff Conrad Ecklie.

Diebenkom "D.B." Russell (Ted Danson)

He replaced Catherine Willows as the night shift supervisor. He shifted from Washington State and is married and has 4 children including a son named Charlie Russell (Brandon Jones) and a daughter named Maya Russell (Brooke Nevin), who were both shown in cases. He also has a granddaughter named Katie who is also Maya's daughter.

Julie "Finn" Finlay (Elisabeth Shue)

She is the newest CSI on the team, following an anger management course. She knows Russell from before after he fired her in Seattle when she ignored procedures and obtained DNA evidence from a suspected serial killer using questionable methods. Later she was seen getting a second shot to capture that same serial killer.

Nicholas "Nick" Stokes (George Eads)

Nick is a level 3 CSI who joined the police department and took a job with the Dallas Crime Lab after leaving Texas A&M University. He specializes in hair and fiber analysis. He becomes emotional on some cases due to something that happened in his childhood. He was promoted at one point, but due to a way he handled a case was later demoted back to his position. After Grissom left, Nick took over the entomology studies that help solve cases.

Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox)

She is the materials and element analyst of the team. She majored in physics at Harvard University and once worked for the San Francisco coroner and crime lab before moving to the Las Vegas team. She fnds difficulty dealing with child-abuse cases as she was abused as a child. Despite the age difference between them, Sara pursues Grissom and they became engaged and got married. They separated as mentioned by Sara in an episode once.

Gregory "Greg" Sanders (Eric Szmanda)

Greg was educated in a private school for gifted students and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Stanford University after where he joined the San Franscisco Police Department before joining the Las Vegas Crime Lab as a DNA technician. He wanted to move up and out as a DNA technician and with Grissom's help became a CSI criminalist. He was promoted to CSI Level 3 soon as well.

Dr. Albert "Al" Robbins (Robert David Hall)

Dr. Robbins is the head county coroner of the LVPD. He is married and has 3 children and was close friends with Grissom. Since Grissom's departure, Robbins developed somewhat of a friendship with Raymond Langston, until he moved on, and is also a close friend with David Phillips, the assistant coroner. He has prosthetic legs, which apparently were lost in an accident while trying to dig up a floor at a crime scene. As Hall has actually lost his legs in a road traffic accident, Robbins's accident's inspiration was also drawn from there.

David Hodges (Wallace Langham)

David is a lab technician with a BA from Williams College who previously worked in the Los Angeles County crime lab, where his superiors often felt he had an attitude problem. At first he provided comic relief, but in the past couple of seasons he has become an important part of the team. David has an uncanny sense of smell, which came in handy in many cases. He is a "momma's boy" who was seen living with his mother up until the end of season 11.

Dr. David Phillips (David Berman)

He is nicknamed "Super Dave" and is the assistant coroner to Dr. Robbins. He received his nickname after saving the life of a victim during an autopsy.

Morgan Brody (Elisabeth Harnois)

She is a former member of Los Angeles Police Department Scientific Investigation Division, and joined the Las Vegas CSI unit in season 12. She is the daughter of the Under-Sheriff Conrad Ecklie.

Henry Andrews (Jon Wellner)

Henry is the toxicology specialist of the Las Vegas Forensics Laboratory, who mainly deals with identifying toxic substances which have undergone human consumption. He has an impressive knowledge of lethal substances and constantly exhibits a thorough understanding of the toxins' properties and effects.

Captain James "Jim" Brass (Paul Guilfoyle)

He was formerly a homicide detective with the Newark Police Department, but now works with the LVPD Homicide Division and the CSI team. He often serves as the legal muscle for the CSI team and is the one who does most of the arresting and interrogating of suspects. His estranged daughter Ellie Rebecca Brass (Nicki Aycox) is a drug addict and prostitute in Los Angeles who discovered that Brass is not her biological father and in the current season it is discovered she went on a murderous rage to get even with Brass.
