Ganga is a struggler - she has come up to this level from absolute zero where she was beaten up and left for dead and her baby stolen from her.
She never had the love of parents or relatives or her in-laws. In addition she got raped, burnt, beaten, abused - had no funds and no education.
Despite that - this woman never gave up. She got lucky in being discovered by Jagya and brought to BH, kept faith and got her kid back. Agreed to study and worked hard and cleared exams. Despite not having ever stepped out of her house - found the courage to goto another city with a new language and do a career building course.
Yes - and in between - when her bum hubby came back to hurt BH - she had the guts to offer her only treasure in life - her beloved son - for the people who gave her hope and shelter.
And after that - she moved out of there HERSELF with her head held high even though she had a kid and no place to go on a rainy night.
Put up with and fought off a rapist on her new job. Divorced her scum of a husband. she has so much spirit !! so much courage !!
How can anyone not see her will to live and strive to make things better. There is so much HOPE in her eyes.

Compare that with Aanndi who had loving parents - had education. In her saasra too - she had loving in-laws except DS (but Sumi and Bhairon wud adore her even if Ds was mean) and education here too.
Yes - at one point DS made her give up books, but she was loved by all and the entire village. Jagya was a loving husband to her. She does not know the fear of rape like Ganga does.
Yes - Jagya cheated on her. She moped for the longest time. But then too - she had choices - she cud go back to her parents place. She cud take Jagya to court, She cud let Bapusa punish him by cutting off his funds and making him see sense.
Anandi had choices. But she chose to be ever-forgiving, ever-pleasing, and ever-dukhi atma.
The Singhs did all they cud to cheer her up. they urged her to study more, be a doc, do things, the village chose her as Sarpanch, she got to run her own school and adult literacy capms. She got to remarry widows and what not. In Short - DS made up in every possible way to her for all her toughness earlier.
DS wangled for her the smartest guy she cud find and played cupid and got them married. Despite that - I have yet to see the hope that shines in Ganga's eyes - shine in Anandi's.
Ganga is happy about life. Anandi is forever scared of displeasing someone.
So how can anyone still think Ganga as a mere sidekick and Anandi as the main lead ?
Currently a brave Ganga is loads more interesting than a pathetic, confused, sorry Anandi.
