It's masti time for Manjari Phadnis
DC | Natasha Coutinho | 2 hours 55 min agoActress Manjari Phadnis who got noticed for her role in the romantic Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na is on seventh heaven with her adult comedy Grand Masti being now a part of the hundred crore club.
The actress says though she always knew the film would be a hit the success it achieved has come as a pleasant surprise. Manjari says, "I'm extremely excited we are part of the 100 crore club. When I read the script I had fallen off my chair laughing but I didn't expect the film to be this big."
"I have been watching Indra Kumar's films since childhood and getting a call from his office was a big thing for me, I was most excited to work with him."
Manjari admits that performing risque scenes in the film wasn't easy and she had to keep her inhibitions aside. She says, "I'm not a shy person off screen but it's a different thing cracking adult jokes among your friends. Here, I had to act out the scenes in front of around 150 people who were part of the crew. Breaking those inhibitions took time but I don't think an actor can afford to have inhibitions anyway."
While the actress has been receiving good reviews for her performance in the film, she tells us that the most surprising reaction came from her parents. "I told my parents to stay in Pune, watch the film there and not call me for a month after that so that kept wondering what I have done in the film. I was very surprised at how sportingly my parents took it. My dad is known to be a serious person but mom called to tell me that he's laughing hard at the jokes in the film."
"She also told me that all the aunties in her group love cracking adult jokes privately so she took them to see the film as well. There are relatives who felt the film was a bit too much but my parents have been a strong support and stood by my side."
While Grand Masti continues it's fabulous run at the box office her other film Warning sunk without a trace. The actress admits the fate of the film left her disappointed. "I am extremely attached to Warning and it's disappointing the film did not get its due."
"It was a path breaking film that wasn't promoted well. We shot 14 hours in the ocean daily for 42 days. After the normal audition we had a test in the swimming pool to see how long we can stay in water, we also had a medical test and a psychological test to check if we can deal with different situations that could arise in the ocean. It's sad that after all the effort the film wasn't noticed."
While after a hit like Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na one would expect her to sign a spree of film that wasn't the case. When quizzed about it the actress reveals, "Whatever was offered to me during that period was similar to Meghna of Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na. I did a children's film which is Walt Disney's Zokkomon but again it wasn't promoted well. It is quite popular on DVD though."
Manjari is now looking forward to her next release Wah Taj opposite Shreyas Talpade.
Speaking about her role she reveals, "This film will see me in a cocky avatar. I will be wearing a kashta and sport a traditional Maharashtrian look for this one."
