Working with Shah Rukh has always been special says Deepika

Deepika Padukone is basking in success as the new 100 crore club princess. The BO darling seems all excited about her upcoming movie Ram-Leela, shot extensively in Gujarat. In Ahmedabad for a dandiya night, Deepika made a rushed entry. Excerpts from a chat:

How was your experience of shooting in Gujarat for the movie?
It was awesome shooting in Kutch. It's a beautiful place and I totally enjoyed the Gujarati feel that the movie captures. I'm familiar with Gujarati culture since childhood " I have lots of Gujarati friends, the food's awesome and with this movie I could understand a lot more about Gujaratis. Sanjay (Leela Bhansali) sir's meticulous research and his eye for detail is commendable. Unfortunately, I couldn't devote much time to research for the role as I had very tight schedule.

Your song Nagada Sang Dhol is a hit this Navratri. Did you enjoy doing garba in this number?
I must confess " it was extremely difficult to learn garba. I had to rehearse for 10-15 days to get the steps right. I don't know how Gujaratis manage to do it with such effortless ease.

How do you react to the protest by certain Gujarati communities about the castist references in the film?
Gujarat is an inherent flavour of the movie but, primarily this is a love-story. One has to look at the movie from director's perception and Sanjay sir is a Gujarati, he will never make a movie to hurt the sentiments of Gujaratis. I simply believe in my director's vision about story-telling.

Chennai Express set new BO records. Do you think Shah Rukh Khan is lucky charm for you?
I don't know, but working with Shah Rukh has always been special. There's so much to learn from him and it felt as delightful to work with him after five long years as it was in Om Shanti Om. He always tells me to cherish the experience of film-making, as we invest so many months in a movie, so it is important to make it the best one. And this is one rule I follow!

This year has been very good for you. I hope that I get fourth time lucky with Ram-Leela!

You share fabulous screen chemistry with all your male co-stars. How do you manage to strike that bond?
Building screen chemistry with a co-actor is the most essential factor in a film. My screen vibes with Saif Ali Khan (Cocktail), Shah Rukh Khan ( Chennai Express), Ranbir Kapoor (Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani) or Ranveer Singh (Ram-Leela) " have been appreciated, but all these movies had a great story-line, nice dialogues and above all director's perception to get the best from the lead couple. And that works for me and my co-stars.
