Nishabd - Some stories are just meant to be stories
<>document.write('Exclusive by Joginder Tuteja, ') Exclusive by Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Saturday, February 24, 2007]

Some love stories are not meant to be understood. Especially those that defy so-called social norms and traditions.

'Nishabd' is one such love story that arrives with no intentions of shocking you. Instead it arrives as a tale that is way above the moral settings and just narrates the series of incidents that happen between a 60 year old man and an 18 year old girl.

60 year old man? Vijay [Amitabh Bachchan]

18 year old girl? Jiah [Jiah Khan]

And then the unthinkable happened. Love.

Love, which was beyond boundaries that have been set since time immemorial

Love, which none could see coming and it still happened

Love, which was never meant to be understood

Vijay was a much married man with a wife [Revathi] and a grown up daughter. A wild life photographer by profession, he saw Jiah for the first time when she came to his place to spend her holidays with his daughters.

It certainly wasn't love at first sight. It couldn't be after all.

But then the two started getting closer to each other. Well, at least Jiah did.

Uninhibited and carefree, Jiah soon found herself getting attracted to Vijay. What was this attraction? Something which was unexplainable and never heard before.

While Jiah was prompt at confessing her love for Vijay as it became uncontrollable for her to hide her feelings, for him it was a dilemma that was unprecedented.

The two started spending more time together and had some of the best moments in the picturesque town. They clicked photographs, danced together, had laughter and for both, it was an experience that could never have been replicated.

And soon, it was time for Vijay to admit the truth. The fact that even he was in love with Jiah!

An all around shock followed.

No one knew when did this love begin? No one knew where this love would be headed to.

No one was required to know any of that - Not just the family of Vijay, but even him and Jiah.

Because some stories are not meant to be understood. They are meant to be just like that. A story.

Something which is not really talked out.

Something which is 'nishabd'.

Produced and directed by Ram Gopal Verma, 'Nishabd' was completed last year itself in a matter of a month. The film arrives this Friday i.e. March 02

its something like Joggers Park.

i read in an article somewhere tht BigB said he did not hv any objections doing this film and he's vry alright with the storyline as well.

We all know RGV....He does movies which are far from love stories n their themes are all on the dark side...so i guess this was expected of RGV...its a bit drastic tho i kno...an 18 year old girl...a 60 year old man...

Varma recreates 'Lolita' through 'Nishabd' (PREVIEW)

< =text/> < src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js" =text/>

New Delhi, Feb 28 (IANS) Director Ram Gopal Varma's 'Nishabd', which releases Friday, tells the story of an intimate and unusual relationship between an older man and his daughter's friend.

Starring Amitabh Bachchan and newcomer Jiah Khan, 'Nishabd' is said to be based on Vladimir Nabokov's controversial novel 'Lolita'. While Nakobov's novel is about a 44-year-old man fantasising about a precocious 12-year-old girl, Varma's 'Nishabd' is about a 60-year old married man's romance with an 18-year-old girl.

Amitabh plays a wildlife photographer in the film and lives with his family n a hill station. Jiah is his daughter's friend, who comes to spend her holidays with the family.

The lensman's artistic vision is triggered off when he sees Jiah's youthful activities and starts capturing them in his camera. But these harmless photo sessions take an unpredictable turn when Amitabh sees Jiah playing in the water getting all wet. It changes his feelings towards her and starts fantasising about her.

This attraction is not one-sided as Jiah too is obsessed with him and unhesitatingly confesses her love.

When he tells his family about his feelings for the teenager, all hell breaks loose. His daughter is shell-shocked on hearing of her dad's romance with her friend.

Through this film, Varma tries to state that age has nothing to do with love. Attraction between two people can exist, irrespective of age.

Aaftab Shivdasani, Revathi and Rukhsar also star in the film.

The novel has been twice adapted into a film - first time in 1962 by Stanley Kubrick starring James Mason as Humbert Humbert and next in 1997 by Adrian Lyne, starring Jeremy Irons and received mixed response.

It is now to be seen how the Indian audience reacts to Varma's interpretation of 'Lolita'

You must learn to think outside the box and human relationships are very complex and sometimes why things happen in a certain way it just cant be explained.Ramgopal varma had the guts to delve into a subject where many people would be scared to touch it with a barge pole.Such forbidden human relationships do exist in society and people do not talk about them.We have to be mature enough to understand such complex relationships. I dont think one should use such strong words towards the director or the actor.Truth and starking reality are always dark and unacceptable.
