Ganga victim of misfortune lost parents in her childhood, married at the age of thirteen, suffered physical and mental abuse even marital rape. Her only concern was to live respectful life with her son Mannu. Ganga was a strong character, she even thought - Mujhe koi mard ki sahara nehi chahiye'. With no support she fought with Ratan Singh and family and flee from their house. Fate make her to land at Badi Haveli and a nice family who wanted to support her. Ganga was devastated without her son but her Doctor Sa could keep her smiling by rubbing gram flour from her face. She is not bothered about villagers accusing her of leaving husband she can fight them back that she had enough of torture now wants to live an independent life.
Ganga a true mother could not hold her emotions when Collector Saab failed to rescue Mannu. Collar pakadke kosha. So why blame Ira when she held Jaggu s collar. Mother's love is blind.
Ganga settled down in BH , became second Anandi to all, got every one's attention for Mannu. She started to develop a belongingness to the family, so she did not mind taking full control of kitchen, advising sumitra how to make non oily khana, she can drop Mannu to Doctor Sa s room anytime, herself spend time with Doctor Sa. No one in the haveli is concerned surprising, We generally do not allow so much of free mixing of a man and woman without any rishta in our family.
She started enjoying quality time with Doctor Sa on kulfi and gola treat and car drives and fair hopping. And finally she fell in love. No blame to Ganga love can happen any time. She cried when Ratan Singh blamed her of having illegitimate relationship with Doctor Sa but could not help desiring Doctor Sa.
She started a silent war with Sanchi nothing is unfair in love and war but lady luck did not smile on her. Doctor Sa agreed to Sanchi's proposal. She knew she have to break ties but could not accept it. So she spent teez, kept calling DoctorSa some times disconnecting when sumi picked up the phone, even agreed to come back to Jaitser. She did not even know Jagya has broken his engagement. So what was in her mind, that I will be Radha to my Kanhaia. Ganga i cannot blame you - you have tolerated so much and now time to be happy.
I do not blame Ganga for loving Doctor Sa. But please do not preach big time words - mein un logo mein se nehi huin jo ungli dene se haath pakad lete hein. Doctor Sa apne apni maa se aise kaise baat karte hein. Anandi ji keya sochenge aur unki sasre wale.
Jagya marrying Ganga, I truly think it is not her fault. She never asked him but became a target for anger. BV teri Ganga maili ho gayi dusro ki karm ka bojh ka bhar lete lete. Ratan Sa, Doctor Sa, Sumitra, Sanchi ji, Ira. May be some more people.
Agree with every word that you have said. Ganga is not a bad woman but neither is she an angel. She did not hesitate to take over the haveli kitchen and made herself thoroughly comfortable in the haveli, going on to overstay her welcome even when Sumitra had made her displeasure very clear.
There was a distasteful scene where Ganga smiled victoriously when Jagya chose to cut her cake first (when she had no business organizing a party in the haveli, Sumitra had clearly asked her to leave by then - she should not have brought the cake when there already was one, she brought it aggressively forward in direct competition with Sanchi and then shed buckets of tears when she saw the engagement) and then the blunt, unsophisticated way she used to ask personal questions and interfere in the Singhs matters.
From a dependent beneficiary who had no more status than a servant maid to bahu - Ganga has made it with simpering, tears and poems. Even now she is least bothered about her benefactors, she is too lost in her infatuation of Jagya and her need for self preservation for herself and her kid. Why couldnt this woman live independently instead of latching on to the first man who helped her? She did expect to milk her relationship with the Singhs for survival and perhaps make herself at home in the haveli forever.
Ganga is ungrateful for all that the Singhs did for her - she mixed closely with Jagya even though she knew Sumitra disliked it there was that scene where she refused to talk to anyone except Jagya that she missed 2 marks in her exams. She unabashedly celebrated Teej with another woman's fiance and wrote poems to him and now has married him, even though she knows he is much above her and his family doesn't like her.
Even when Ganga decided to finally leave the haveli, she wrote a suggestively worded letter to the object of her infatuation (slyly saying 'I am not worthy of you') and walked out dreaming of her moments with him. She was ready to hide while the Singhs were being terrorised by Ratan but ran out when she heard her 'daaktarsa's' voice.
Sumitra's resentment of Jagya growing closer to Jagya was natural and grew as it was fuelled by his impulsive actions and her I dont care attitude. Even though she knew the Singhs had moved on after her, she dreamed to returning to Jaitser hospital and live there.
Ganga did not know that Jagya had broken the engagement with Sanchi, and yet when she was released from jail, her first thought was not of her child but of a clandestine hug with her daaktarsa. This does not behove a very high standard of character - she is an average street smart woman who knows what she wants and tries her best to go for it, either aggressively as she did in the cake scene or by appearing to be a helpless damsel in distress.
The worst scene yesterday was Ganga walking in casually with Jagya, praying at the Devi Ma mandir and sauntering into his cabin without looking at or acknowledging any of the Singhs who had been so kind to her earlier and who had built the hospital for Jagya. And when Sumitra questioned her, she walked out in a huff - would it have hurt to explain her position or at least asked Jagya to explain? How could she behave thus with Sumitra who had taken her literally from the road into her house, taken care of her kid and was good to her until she started eyeing Sumitra's son and growing closer to him inspite of repeated reminders?
Sumitra never accepted Gauri. Hope the Singhs never accept Ganga - she cleverly took advantage of their hospitality and clung simpering to Jagya all the time (to be fair she also clung to the Singh family not unlike a leech) and now married him. No sympathy at all for Sanchi but all said and done, Ganga does come across as a thankless woman who took advantage of the Singh's kindness and overstepped all her boundaries as a woman given shelter.
And you are so right about her bhashan to Sanchi Ganga was doing exactly what she did not claim to do (ungli dene par haath pakadna) at least fantasising about it. Sumitra's accusation, though it was harsh, had a ring of truth to it - Ganga had grown accustomed to the comforts of the haveli and the comfortable flat Jagya arranged for her and unconsciously at least wanted to retain it. She also wanted to become a member of the Singh family. She did it for her self preservation, security for herself and her kid, the gratification of her own romantic infatuation, her need for a family and creature comforts beyond her level. She achieved what she wanted in the end. Good for her! But it leaves a very bad taste in the storyline of this serial which had once been a mirror to realistic rural India.
Feel sorry for the poor Singh family.
Balika Vadhu has deteriorated beyond anything. What happened to Gauri, Jagya's saccha pyar? It would be better to end the serial at the earliest, this rustic cinderella story is such a waste of space and gives the wrong message to the audience - every other ayah will now start dreaming of marrying a well to do doctor and getting indulged by a wealthy haveli.
