However, AK is being a hypocrite. He says that others in the industry don't want him to succeed, but he is doing the same thing to the makers of The Good Road - without even seeing the film!

His ego is so big that he can not believe that a group of judges found another film better than his? That's why I'm having a hard time with his statement.

That's not the point!

The point is that a film that has just won awards at the two most prestigious film festivals in the world, has the best chance to win another International Award.
I think Kashyap is justified in his rant, if it is indeed politics and personal equations that led to this decision which as we've all seen in the past plays a big part in the jury's decision. It's sad because The Lunchbox is indeed a beautiful work of art.

cuz he wants attention
There are other ways of venting out frustration other than acting like a sore loser. Him and KJO retweet the nasty tweets about TGR without even seeing the movie like W*F how childish can you be.

And if they're so confident with their product then they can send it independently without relying on the Indian board or whatever.

Just because it won international awards does not mean that a judging panel in India has to automatically vote for it.

I disagree. I understand if he is disappointed, but I don't think he is justified in basically implying that The Good Road is worse than his film and doesn't deserve to go to the Oscars. Especially when he has not even seen the film.

What's sad is a grown man Anurag Kashyap acting like a whiny childish Jackass 😆😆

And I know I use to be one 😳

Abd seriously Kashyap, get over it. How long are you going to whine? Anyways, can't you submit a film at Oscars independently too?

Yes you can but most people don't b/c it's like you're going against the decision of your country--very few have done so and actually won. But they can release The Lunchbox in US theaters and I'm pretty sure if there's someone in the film that is part of the Academy and it's released before a certain deadline...it can qualify all by itself.

I mean Penelope Cruz was nominated for Vovler--an international film that did win a lot of film festival awards. So if The Lunchbox garnered a lot of international buzz and prizes it has good chances of winning independently too.

Won the critics choice best film award at both Cannes and TIFF. The two biggest film festivals in the world.
Highest rated Indian film ever by critics. Masand and Raja Sen both gave it 5/5 for the first time ever.

Its not far-fetched to believe that after winning Cannes and TIFF, it would win the Oscar as well. So before dissing Anurag, go watch the film.

Yeah I saw it and you're right--it's really good. And kudos to all of them for making something so different and Irfan Khan was magnificent in it.

However, if they didn't get the nod no get to take away for The Good Road--which according to the critics is a pretty solid film and contender too.

I think the problem most of us have is that Anurag keeps dragging this on and on and it's apparent there's a strong notion of sore-loser/sour grapes. Like, maybe it's one of those years where India made a lot of good films and it was hard to chose.
