Actually.. it was a big deal because this is the 16th century, and many people like Maham and Maulvi are not so tolerant when it comes to religion. A lot of people were also against the marriage..

Holi as never celebrated before in the household.. and you know Jalal can't see the back stabbing witch crying.

This is why it was blown out of proportion in my opinion.. and religion is a very sensitive issue.

Maham is against these marriage from beginning and she hates jodha and will never leave her until she removes jodha from her way.
But Jalal was giving jodha all permissions to celebrate her festivals, so MM took this as opportunity to create a MU between jodha and jalal and is trying to remove jodha permanently from her way and from agra.

1 question. I don'r know much about muslim tradition, but is this similar to hindu religion. I mean widows are not allowed to use colours. So is this custom similar to that. And why hamida bano wears colourful dresses. I am asking this for curiosity.

Don't know...however, maham has given up wearing colourful clothes on her own wish...she tells jalal that she has given up wearing colourful clothes because she wanted a simple life after husband's demise...so, besides the religious thing(no holi in Mughal mahal) it has an emotional angle to it...

Nope as Sara pointed, colours have nothing to do with widowhood in Islam...its got to do with the 16th century Mughals keeping themselves strictly away from Hindu traditions in that era...Holi is a Hindu festival and they wanted nothing to do with it. The invaders wanted to control the residents of the country - not become a part of them...Jalal was the first Mughal emperor who showed tolerance to other religions...however, his court-waasis didn't share his same views...
hence, the uproar when Jalal married Jodha and allowed her to remain a Hindu - so much so- that we discuss their story even today (even if the romantic aspects might be fictional tadka!)

Birbal is also known to have had many adversaries in Akbar's court since he was a hindu minister...
