He did ask about the family of Nikhil but after asking about the house first. his daughter is not married to none of these two.
Normally a father or father of law ask his daughter how are you, everything is fIne? how is your hubby... then come anything else but here he was much more concern about the house and yes was mesmerised when Lajjo acted as if she's ruling on everything.

You have to put yourself in his shoes. Yes good mannerism and normal human behaviour would be just the way you described, but we are talking about a very simple-hearted farmer who lives the simplest life in the simplest environment. His reaction would probably have been the same as described by you if he had visited Lajjo in another village had she gotten married to the other guy. Here he enters a place which is beyond his comprehension and so is his reaction. I didn't think it was odd. My post is based on the Sept 23 rd episode. He was happy to see Lajjo and happy to see her happy but also taken aback by the extent of the riches.

i still agree partly with you as for me he seems too much interested in the house. Huge or not the house is not something which he never saw before now he was only enjoying the facts that it belongs to his daughter...

I actually think his reactions were just what was to be expected. The man was in awe as he has never seen such luxurious surroundings before. We didn't see him behave like that around Baba's house which of course is the biggest in the village as he was used to it but this one surpasses that in lavishness so I have to give him some slack on this one. Also, I think he asked about everyone and also if Laajo was doing well there, if she was making everyone happy, not making any problems for everyone etc. so those ?'s were asked that you would expect from him.

If he would have asked for Nikhil, then Lajjo would have to call Nikhil as he was in the house and how Lajjo will call Nikhil?😆
