Chapter - 58 - Kuch Toh Log Kahenge

Geet wanted to greet Daadima as well so when Nakul mentioned that he was making juice for Daadima, she happily asked him to get the medicine while she takes the juice in Daadima's room.

Walking with a small tray, she stepped onto the stairs but soon her eyes widened in shock as she saw Naintara walk down with great speed while talking on her mobile, straight towards her. Clearly she wasn't looking at front and was distracted with her call. Geet called out to her and still even as she tried her best to save the collision, there was a loud sound followed with an equally loud shriek

***Thud*** (Glass falling on carpet)

***Aah...*** (NT's shriek)

"What the hell do you think you are doing? Are you blind...what the hell and who the hell are you. Nakul bhi kis kis ko maid rakh leta hai without any training."

"Nahi woh..."

"Woh what...who the f*** will pay for this dress. Tumhari 6 months ki salary itni nahi hogi jitni ki meri dress thi..."

Geet was getting nervous hearing loud voice and all the bad words. It transported her back to those days which had now become a dreadful memory for her past. Nervously she tried to calm the enraged woman in front of her

"Lekin woh accident...mein koshish kar rahi thi lekin aap hi phone pe baat..."

"Just shut up..."

Dev thundered from top of the stairs

"Ek to galti karti ho aur upar se zaban chala rahi ho...and ek minute...tum to bro ki secretary ho na...yahan kya kar rhai ho?"

Geet was in tears by now. She again tried to explain "I came to get his medicine. Nakul was busy so..."

"So you thought to gain some sympathy and brownie points...irada kya tha...Daadima and Maan Veerji ko melt kar ke ghar mein ghus jaogi...tum jaisi cheap do kaudi ki ladkiyaan...bhukon marke bhi meri dress tak saaf karne ki aukat nahi hai aur..."

"Naintara...!!!!"

Daadima's stern voice echoed in the entire room...

She had come out hearing some loud noises and Naintara's horrible words had made her really angry. She marched towards three of them and her heart broke seeing Geet standing with her head down and tears running down her face.

"How dare you...maafi mangiye Geet se...abhi isi waqt"

"What...lekin Daadima is ladki ne carelessness se meri designer dress kharab kar di...and you are asking me to ask forgiveness from just a mere employee"

Before Daadima could react Geet spoke trying to justify herself. Right now she was just a girl who had been once again accused of a domestic accident and was living in her fearful past where such accusations and beatings were a norm for her.

"Nahi Daadima...woh galti se...I was coming to get you juice while she was on phone...I tried to warn...sachi mein lekin unhone suna nahi aur...mein saaf kar dungi...please...I am sorry"

Daadima turned Geet and took her in embrace wiping her tears away. After so many days she saw glimpse of the same scared girl whom she had met in the hostel originally.

"Nahi beta...aap aise kyon keh rahi hai...agar accident ho bhi gaya toh usmein kisi ki koi galti nahi...and dress ka kya hai...aur aa jayengi...lekin Naintara ko aapse aise baat nahi karni chaiye thi. Agar aap employee hoti toh bhi nahi lekin ab to aap rishte mein inse badi hain...hain na"

She looked at NT with hard glance

"Hum fir nahi kahenge Naintara. Koi bhi safai baad mein, pehle maafi mangiye..."

Naintara gulped at the angry avatar of Daadima and for the time being thought it was better to apologise

"Sorry"

Even as Geet shook her head to stop NT, Daadima continued in the same hard voice

"Aur haan yeh koi naukrani nahi hain...hoti bhi to bhi hum aap se aise zahalat bhari baton ki umeed nahi karte...I thought you were cultured and educated girl...cultured royal ladkiyan aise baat karti hain?"

"Nahi Daaima woh achank se drink gira is liye and it was quite an expensive dress"

Daadima held her hand up to stop NT from progressing further

"Humne apse safai nahi maangi aur na hi humari baat abhi kahtam hui hai. Abhi jo kuch hua woh waise bhi thik nahi tha kyonki Geet...aapki hone wali bhabhi hain...is ghar ki badi bahu...humne aapko neeche isiliye bulaya tha ki aap ko yeh khush khabri dein ki humne Maan ki shaadi Geet se fix kar di hain...and she is now part of this family...this house"

Naintara's eyes widened in shock and Dev felt as if someone has snatched the floor from underneath his feet.

"Kya...lekin achanak se kaise"

"Kyon Dev aapko khushi nahi hui? Waise bhi achanak kahan. You know very well that I wanted for so long for Maan to settle. So when he himself is ready and that too to the best girl in this world then there was no point in delaying. I missed both of you but we did roka yesterday and now Geet is Maan's fianc. I guess congratulations are in order...nahi"

But both Naintara and Dev were too surprised to mask their inner thoughts and their displeasure was clearly written on their face.

"Kya hua...Geet ko mubarak baad dijiye"

Naintara came to her senses first and gave a superficial smile. She moved ahead to congratulate Geet when Dev's words stopped her and changed her smile to a disgusting smirk.

"Seriously Daadima...aapne bro ki shaadi is ladki se...is se pakki ki hai. She is from your hostel right...a widower...aapko koi aur nahi mila tha...sach mein lagta hai aap ghar aur hostel ke beech ka fark bhul gayi hain jo bro ki shaadi aise ladki se karne ki baat keh rahi hain...mein maan hi nahi sakta...aise raste se kisi ko bhi utha kar ghar mein lane ka matlab kya hai...yeh ghar hai koi dharamshaala nahi..."

"Dev!!!!!"

Maan's eyes glared with rage and for once even Naintara cowered and jumped back slightly seeing his thunderous face.

"Ek shabd aur nahi...Geet meri hone wali patni hai...meri izzat and dare you speak another word to dishonour her or me. Geet is my fianc and very soon going to be my wife. Yeh sach hai...and it is better for you that you accept this fact. I don't care what you think or don't think as this decision is taken. If this is so unacceptable then let me remind you that this house is mine too and as elder son Geet commands the same respect which a Khurana bahu does. I will not tolerate another word against her...and how are you talking to Daadima. Yeh kya tarika hai...saari tehzeeb bhul chuke ho tum."

Kuch reet jagat ki aisi hai, har ek subah ki sham huyi

Too kaun hai, tera nam hai kya, sita bhi yaha badanam huyi

Fir kyo sansar ki bato se bhig gaye tere naina

Saying this he grabbed her hand and walked outside without a glance backwards. Daadima also walked away angrily to her room but not before saying one line "jab tum sachayi ko samajh lo to milne aa sakte ho". As she walked she saw Nakul standing at the top of stairs with Maan's medicine. She nodded to him and asked to give the medicine in the outhouse after some time.

Man was furious and his tight hold on her hand told Geet how angry he was feeling. Tears of guilt and shame pricked her eyes. Today he was insulted...Daadima was insulted because of her. Once again her resolve wavered and a sob escaped her mouth.

Maan stopped in the middle of the path as her crying sound reached his ears. He came out of his angry stupor glancing remorsefully at Geet. His heart pained seeing those tears in her eyes. She was so happy yesterday and since today morning all he had ended up was paining her.

"Kya woh use khush nahi rakh sakta?"

Before he could fall in the abyss of his own guilt, her words unknowingly cleared his mind.

"I am sorry Maan sir...meri wajah se yeh sab kuch hua...I am so sorry..."

Coming out from the heat of the moment he calmly saw how her self confidence was crumbling and once again she was blaming herself. It was an irony that she was the one who was shouted at and that too in his house and in his and Daadima's presence and still she was blaming herself. But this time, he would not let anyone or anything to make her part from him. If she lacked confidence, he will give it to her. If she needed a support, he will stand beside her. But this time she will not fall...they will not fall...their love will not fall.

"Bahut seh liya Geet...ab na mein aur na hi tum un chute hue bure dinon ki taraf jaogi..I will not let you self doubt yourself or our relationship. I may not be able to protect you from every pain but I will not let you be alone..."

He sighed and gently cupped her face wiping her tears away with pads of his thumb.

"Meri taraf dekho Geet"

It took lot of courage for her to see in his eyes...expecting shame, maybe anger but she was bowled over when all she was love.

"I was thinking of apologising as well Geet. After all I failed to protect you from Naintara's harsh words. But after hearing your sorry I will not do it. Because I know, pyaar mein sorry aur thank you ka waqai mein koi matlab nahi hota. Jaanti ho kyon

Kyonki na humara dard alag hai na khushi. If you are hurt, I am hurt. Toh phir ek dusre ko sorry bolne ka kya matlab.

Jaanta hun tumehin bahut bura laga hai...kyonki mujhe bhi bahut bura laga hai Geet. Tumhein guilt ho raha hai ki yeh sab hua and I am guilty kyonki yeh sab hua...so what's the point in saying mutual sorry.

Maybe pain is more because we expect world to speak things but not those whom we consider our own...our own family. Koi aur ladki hoti toh samjhana mushkil hota Geet lekin duniya dekhi hai tumne is choti si umar mein...bahut kuch saha hai. Isiliye bas itna kahunga ki tumhein to pata hai na that not everyone is same in a family. Neither everyone understands each other nor do they support each other. Kehne ko hum ek family hain...ek saath rehte hain but it is not necessary that every one cares for you and loves you the same.

Who can understand this better than you jab tumhara apna bhai...sorry Geet un zakhmon ko kured raha hoon...lekin yahi sach hai. Usi tarah Dev kabhi mujhe samjha hi nahi aur shayad na hi mein kabhi use thik se samjh paya. Kaafi saal alag rahe hain but still I have tried my best to be a good brother to him but we don't have that emotional bonding which brothers usually share.

Just few years back I could not understand his choice of Naintara as his life partner but I still accepted her gracefully. Bas yahi chahta hoon ki he does the same...bas aur kuch nahi...

Ab yeh family jitni meri hai utni hi tumhaari bhi hai Geet...is liye, please maaf kardo unhein aur bhul jao...pls...tumhaare aansoon nahi sahe jaate...bas har waqt yahi chahta hoon ki tumhein khush rakh sakoon...par pata nahi kyon..."

Humko jo tane dete hai, hum khoye hain in rang raliyo me

Humne unko bhi chup chup ke aate dekha in galiyo me

Yeh sach hain jhuthi bat nahi tum bolo yeh sach hain naa

"Mein bahut khush hoon Maan sir...aap meri zindagi mein hain...is se zayda na kabhi chaha aur na kbahi maanga..aur mujhe aisa bura bhi nahi laga bas meri wajah se unhone aapko aur Daadima ko itna kuch kaha aur...mein thoda dar gayi thi...kuch puraani yaadien wapis aa gayi thi...bas..."

Geet hugged him tightly soothing his heart. His words had touched her deeply. Yes it was not necessary that everyone should accept her, what mattered was that he accepted her. What mattered was that he was sad when she was...he was happy when she was. For his happiness he could gladly hear anything and everything and still smile.

Maan felt her tightening her hug as she felt loved and he in turn tightened the hug more. Nuzzling his nose on her neck he places pecks where ever he could murmuring soothing loving words

"Kehte hain ki shaadi ke baad ek insaan ki utni hi izzat hoti hai jitni ki uski spouse ki...so never feel I am different from you Geet. And I promise you today that whatever may happen, till I am alive, I will never let anyone treat you the way you were treated in past. Kabhi darna mat Geet...I am there with you...ab tum akeli nahi ho. You are my life Mishty...I love you Jaan...I love you."

"I love you too Maan sir"

Maan smiled at her innocence filled words. Finally she was little calmed down and that calmed his own heart. "Phir se sir...kya baat hai Madam...well Miss. secretary, this affair is quite exciting but is se pehle meri finace humein pakad le, lets go and get some work done..."

Geet blushed under his naughty gaze and Maan just laughed seeing her red smiling face. With hand around her waist, they walked back to the outhouse where Geet entered first followed shortly by Maan.

Unknown to both of them, two pair of eyes had seen their little making up and hugging rendezvous. Standing in their balcony, Naintara flipped the chair back in anger and jealousy seeing Maan and Geet so close.

"Look at these shameless people Dev. Sach mein pyaar aadmi ko kya se kya bana deta hai. A person who didn't even talk to girls properly is openly romancing and kissing in the garden...kuch kariye Dev...agar yeh shaadi ho gayi toh abhi toh bas Maan kea age haath failana padta ahi...woh din dur nahi jab ghar mein bhi second class citizens ki tarah rehna padega...

Dekha aaj Daadima ne kaise baat ki humse...sab kuch humare haath se nikla jayega Dev...kuch kariye"

"You are right Tara...we need to speak to mom...chahe kuch bhi ho jaaye, Geet will never enter this house...never."
