Chapter 16

Roshni came down in the kitchen. Maoushi and Aisha looked at her in anticipation. She seemed happy... her eyes had some unshed tears but it was clear enough that they were tears of joy. Maoushi and Aisha looked at each other and Aisha moved to Roshni.

"Tum theek ho?"

"Haan..." She came out of her thoughts "Sir ki daughters...maine unhe dekha... they are so cute Aisha..." Roshni excitedly told her "... and I think one of them liked me... usne immediately meri ungli pakadh li thi..."

Aisha just happily nodded to her and exchanged pleasantry looks with Maoushi. Both were happy that their plan's outcome was better than expected.

"Table set karne me meri help karogi?"

Roshni nodded and both got to their work.

After some time

Arjun came down with Rathor and Gia. Gia was looking nervous. No matter how Arjun didn't want any of this to affect her, but willingly or unwillingly he had stressed her. Gia had seen him worried for some reason. And, then she was going to meet Roshni and after whatever she had been told by Arjun last night, she was bound to be scared.

Arjun, on being forced by Rathor, thought of just going with the flow. He held Gia's hand and brought her down with him in the dining area. The three ladies were setting up the table for breakfast and Shree and Chotu had already joined them. They were all waiting for Arjun and Rathor. The twins had already been fed by Maoushi.

He looked sideways at Rathor. He just nodded and asked him to proceed further. Arjun took a deep breath and nodded at Gia. Roshni's back was facing Arjun. All except Roshni, noticed Gia and Arjun standing there and were shocked. They never thought that Arjun would introduce the two so soon.

"Aisha! Tum juice nhi laayi?" Roshni asked her but instead saw her eyes glued to something else. She turned and saw Arjun standing there. He looked tensed, it seemed as if he was trying to convey something... his eyes had that urge to say something but Roshni was not getting what that was. She kept on looking at him trying to figure out what's about him that makes her heart and brain overwork.

Arjun's heart was beating fast too. Next moment could bring anything for him but he was hoping for some good. He took a deep breath and her name came out of his mouth "Roshni!"

Roshni snapped out and it was then that she noticed one small girl with him. She was wearing a cute white frock and a hair band with a pretty bow on it. She was cute...Arjun sir's daughter, whom he was trying to make sleep last night. But her face... it was familiar... and she instantly remembered...

"Gia!!!" She smiled.

Arjun was shocked and so were others. Arrjun looked at Rathor as if deciding what it is. She recognized her. It was just amazing. Gia happily looked above at her father. It was not like her father was saying and everything was good. Arjun let her go and she ran to hug her mother. Roshni hugged her tight and kissed her on her hairs. Arjun was not able to react for a moment. Everyone looked at each other trying to get what was happening.

Both parted from the hug and Gia kissed her on her cheeks. Roshni smiled.

"Jab dekha tha tab tum kitni choti thi... ab toh bohot badhi ho gayi ho..."

"Tumhe ye yaad hai?" Shree asked her pointing at Gia.

"Ofcourse yaad hai!" Roshni held Gia's hand "And I am sure Gia ko b main yaad hu. Hai na?"

"Aap to ekdum theek ho?" Gia asked her.

"Haan!" She quizzically looked "Kyu?"

"Lekin papa ne bola..." and both Gia and Roshni turned to look at him.

"Maoushi! Aap plz Gia ko ander le jaayengi..." Arjun immediately intervened.

Arjun had realized that something else was going on in Roshni's mind, this was not how it looked and he needed to clear his doubt. He himself was not getting it then how could he make Gia understand all this. It was better that she is kept away from all this for a while. Maoushi was still standing there. Arjun turned to her "Plz Maoushi!"

Maoushi snapped out and took Gia's hand from Roshni's to take her to her room. Gia didn't want to go and she had tightly held Roshni's hand but she was taken from there forcefully. Roshni confused looked at everyone who looked even more confused.

"Kya hua hai?" She confusingly asked.

"Tumhe Gia kaise yaad hai?" Arjun came forward.

Roshni was shocked at his question. What kind of a question was it? What does he mean? Was he so possessive about his 10yr old daughter that she was now being interrogated for this? She spoke up in a low voice "Aap ye kyu pooch rahe hai?"

"Roshni! Jo poocha gaya hai uska jawaab do!" Rathor restlessly said.

Roshni blurted "Wo Anika ki beti hai... meri friend... jab main Mumbai pehli baar aayi thi to..."

Arjun spoke up in between. "Tum log breakfast kar lo! Mera mann nhi hai!"

Arjun was not able to take it any longer. He had got his answer. The whole situation had taken a different route now. Gia was still there in her memories, but the memories were of some different time... Her initial days in Mumbai. She remembered Gia as her friend's daughter and not as her daughter. The hope broke as soon as it had built up. He just disappointingly stormed out of there followed by Rathor "Arjun! Ruko!"

Roshni was not getting what was happening. Everyone was staring at her as if she had done a big mistake. Arjun's reaction only confused her more.

"Lekin maine aisa kya kar diya?"

She turned and asked all of them but none had the answer. Rathor shifted today's training session for tomorrow realizing both Arjun's mental stress and Shree's physical condition.

The whole day passed but Arjun didn't come out of his room. Neither had he come out for the lunch nor for dinner. His absence was now bothering Roshni. She had asked everyone about it but nobody told her anything. To top it all, all were acting weird. But then as usual she caught hold of Shree and since his back was hurt too, he wasn't able to run too.

"Shree! Plz bohot hua... koi mujhe nhi bata raha...tum to bata do! Kya sir ko mera Gia se baat karna accha nhi laga...ya fir koi aur baat hai... Arjun sir ne aise kyu react kiya..."

Shree helplessly looked at her. He was stuck. What should he do?

It was late night. Arjun was standing in the lawn gazing at the sky just like that. He had spent the whole day thinking about how to handle all this. He was really furious at Roshni for betraying her in such a way but then it was wrong to blame her. She was not doing it on purpose. Nothing was helping... may be the situation require a different tactic to handle it...

"Aapne Gia k bare me mujhe pehle kyu nhi bataya?"

Arjun turned at looked at her. He was shocked seeing her there at this hour. She must have come here for her answers. What would he reply to her? Should he tell her another lie to cover up? Or tell the truth...but it may risk her life. He stood there struggling for the right words...

Roshni came near him and shook his shoulder "Aap theek hai na?" She smiled "Umm waha baith kar baat kare?" She pointed to the swing, moved towards it and let Arjun follow her.

Both took their position and Arjun was just looking at her amazed. She was talking differently... she must have some purpose. Roshni then asked again "Aapne Gia k bare me mujhe pehle kyu nhi bataya..."

"Wo main...maine socha..."

"Aapko batana chahiye tha na! And I am really sorry about Anika... mujhe kissi ne pehle bataya hi nhi ki aap aur Anika..."

"Main aur Anika?" He was confused.

"Haan! Shree se baat hui thi meri... Anika bohot acchi thi... I am sure she must have been a very good wife also..."

It was then that Arjun realized what she meant. She had assumed that Arjun was married to Anika or god knows what Shree has told her. Arjun stood up "Ye sab tumhe kisne kaha hai? Dekho Roshni...Gia ko maine..."

"I know... adopt kiya hai...Aap dono ki shaadi k baad...Aap bohot acche hai sir...Anika must have been very lucky that she found you..."

Arjun didn't know what to say. Situations were just hell bent on getting complicated and in turn make his life complicated too. He just took a deep breath and let the conversation go on.

"...I wish mujhe wo saari sweet memories yaad rehti but... waise main aapki shaadi ka part thi na?" She asked.

Arjun couldn't help but smile at her question. Of course she was! Why wouldn't she? It was like she was asking whether she was invited for her own marriage or not. He chuckled at her thought. She still looked cute and acted cute.

"Haan" He nodded with a smile.

"Obviously! Anika ne mujhe to zarur invite kiya hoga... You know hum log..." But then she stopped thinking it might hurt him talking about his dead wife so she changed the topic "... Gia ko toh maine pehle dekha tha lekin aaj main Tani Tashi se mili... they are relly cute..."

"Hmmm apni mumma par jo gaye hai..." He said and looked at her.

She smiled. She was happy with the thought that Anika deserved a good life and she had one with him but sad it ended soon. She kept looking at him for a while... She had started appreciating him realizing that he really loved his wife, that's why he didn't remarry despite having young kids. He was handling the kids single handedly after their mother. And now since he was her friend's husband, it was time that their equations should also change.

"Sir...I know hum logo ki starting acche se nhi hui but... let's start afresh no... "

"Matlab?"

"Matlab...ummm... lets be friends..." and she held out her hand.

Arjun looked at her and smiled. He didn't take any longer and shook his hand with her. She smiled... She was happy that she would be able to do something for her friend. Anika really took great care of her when she was new in Mumbai and so now it was on her part to take care of her friend's kids after her and for that, it was necessary first of all to set things right with Arjun.

Roshni (got up, smiled) : "Good night sir!"

Arjun : "Arjun... tum mujhe mere naam se bula sakti ho..."

Roshni (smiled) : "Ummm ok!"

She got up from the swing to go but then asked him "Waise aapko b aasmaan mein tare dekhna pasand hai... "

"Pehle nhi tha lekin kuch saalo se hai..."

"Mujhe to bachpan se hi bohot pasand hai..."

"Pata hai..."

She smiled and turned to go. But then she turned back again quizzically "Aapko kaise.."

"Bas... pata hai!" Arjun got up too "Bohot raat ho gayi hai... tumhe sona chahiye..."

She left and Arjun smilingly looked at her going form. Life was indeed complicated but somehow it had taken a different turn and it seemed it was for good... may be this friendship will do the wonders... who knows... but he was having a positive feeling about it... Rathor was again right... Just go with the flow... He smiled...
