My Box Office Predictions for Phata Poster Nikla Hero

Let's face facts. Shahid Kapoor has been struggling for the last few years. He was at his peak in 2006-2007 with hugely successful films VIVAH and JAB WE MET, and KAMINEY in 2009 got him success and appreciation as well. However, a string of flops like MILENGE MILENGE, MAUSAM, and TERI MERI KAHAANI have really been a downer for his career!

Now, Shahid Kapoor unites with the well-respected director Rajkumar Santoshi. Rajkumar Santoshi has tasted success with action films in the past, with films like DAMINI, GHAYAL, and GHATAK. Similarily, he has also found appreciation with the comedy genre, with ANDAZ APNA APNA being loved by many and being considered a cult classic, as well as AJAB PREM KI GAZAB KAHAANI being a Super Hit.

So, Santoshi has success with both action and comedy. And PHATA POSTER NIKLA HERO looks like a mix of both action and comedy. In other words, this one is all set to be a success!

The trailer of PHATA POSTER NIKLA HERO released in July and won a lot of appreciation. Shahid Kapoor is in an avatar that the public will like him in. Also in the film is Ileana D'Cruz, fresh off of the huge success of BARFI.

There was talk a few months ago that the masala genre may be dying down, because of the under-performance of some big masala films like KHILADI 786 and HIMMATWALA. However, the earth-shattering success of CHENNAI EXPRESS proved that masala films are still here to stay. From SHOLAY to CHENNAI EXPRESS, masala films will always call the shots the most in India!

PHATA POSTER NIKLA HERO fits into that "masala" genre. Also, it has that fun, colorful vibe in it that majority of the Indian public seeks. The songs contribute to that vibe as well, especially with a massy song like "Dhating Naach" that the Indian audience likes to hear. Also, the verdict of youth is most important today, because in today's time if a film appeals to the youth then it is bound to work, and in this case PHATA POSTER NIKLHA HERO looks like a very youthful film. Also, it seems like clean family entertainment, so it will appeal to the family audience as well.

Opening wise, this will easily be Shahid Kapoor's biggest opener ever. Opening will be huge, especially at mass centers. The film has a clear run at the box office for 12 days (until BESHARAM releases on October 2) and so if PHATA POSTER is appreciated (which I feel is very likely) then the film has nearly 2 weeks to collect good at the box office.
