A penny for your thoughts?

Central park in the morning is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen, but central park at night, especially on the eve of Valentine's Day is filled with drunk people either, making out or lonely people who have come to wallow in their own misery. I am the latter. See, my good-for-nothing ex-boyfriend dumped me yesterday. He is such an inconsiderate jerk. Though I have to admit, he was more of a show piece than a boyfriend. I never did love him...still this was a bad time for a breakup.

The cool breeze caressed me, emphasizing on my loneliness. On nights like this I would usually be curled around my fire place, drinking hot cocoa , but instead I am here , keeping myself warm with whatever body heat I had left. I rubbed my hands together trying to get as much warmth in as possible when I heard a voice from beside me.

"Cold night and a lonely girl ... I am sensing a jerk in this story too."

As I turned to look at him I noticed two things... he was extremely gorgeous and he made me smile. It was more than enough to make me melt. Still I was determined not to give anything away. I mean , I just got dumped. I am not supposed to be that happy.

"You must be psychic then..." I was trying to sound sarcastic but I must have come across as amused as he grinned.

"No...I am Reyansh. Rey for short." is it me or does his name sound hot too?

"A penny for your thoughts?"

"You'd end up pretty much broke then. "I was rewarded by his melodious laughter.

"Try me ..."

Was he flirting?

"Hmmm...all right then, I think that couple making out over there are just trying to get attention."

That was when I heard the clank of metal. I turned towards him as I saw him placing a penny on the bench In between us.

"Whoa...I think you are taking this way too literally."

He placed another penny to accompany the single one on the bench.

"Let's see exactly how broke I will end up."

Well two can play that game.

"Okay then, I think that all men are dogs." I smiled as I heard hesitation and then the familiar sound of metal clanking down to the bench.

Pretty soon I was telling him everything I could think of while he religiously put each penny on top of each other on cue. Finally, when I was done I saw that there was a humongous stack of pennies on the bench forming a barricade. I asked the first question that came to my mind.

"Where did you get so many pennies from?"

"I study at NYU and whenever I am free I play my guitar here...people assume I am basking and shower me with pennies...I needed something to do with them."

I found myself giggling at him as he smiled sheepishly at his guitar that I just noticed.

"You know I can't accept these..."

"Who said I was giving them to you?" he said as he winked at me and scooped up all the pennies. I couldn't help but feel my cheeks become reddened.

We gazed at each for a few seconds more when he stood up.

"Alright bye then..."

I was taken aback...I knew he had to go but when I the time came, it felt like I was being dumped again.

"You're leaving?" I found myself parroting like an idiot.

He looked at me with an unreadable expression.

"Yup..."

"Okay then...goodbye." The truth was , I was holding myself from begging him to stay.

He leaned into me as I felt like my heart was about to be run out of my chest. He kissed me on my cheek as I felt my stomach flip over.

"Happy Valentine's Day."

I looked at him at a loss for words finally managing to get an almost inaudible thank you out. I watched as he turned away and disappeared into the corner under the dim light of the street lamp.

It shouldn't have been so hard...saying goodbye, but it was. I was choking back tears I didn't shed during my actual breakup when I spotted a pink slip of paper under a penny. I was immediately ecstatic again.

Taani, when you read this you will be wondering when I Actually wrote this. Well somewhere between, I think Simon Baker is the hottest guy on television and I think the penguin is the cutest bird.
