Is John on the cusp of Superstardom?

John as always is flying under the radar but quietly he's had a great year. His best year yet. A 100 Cr Race 2 followed by a semi successful Shootout at Wadala and ending with a commercially and critically acclaimed Madras Cafe.
He's still not the greatest performer but he's improved quite a bit, his upcoming projects looks promising in Welcome Back and Dostana 2.

Is this the start of something big?
Will John finally hit super-stardom albeit a little late like a Saif?

I think it's good that he's ventured into Production, it is doing him good and he seems to be making all of the right moves on that front. Race 2 was a multistarrer, and Welcome Back along with Dostana 2 will be multistarrers too. Sure, those movies may do good business, but I don't see his career making any big shift, especially now that there's an influx of new comers. He will stay in the news, do movies...but what's really going to do him good is his Production House.

John's problem is he's was and still is in that cusp of superstardom. JA and Abhi from his generation have already been overtaken by Ranbir. Only HR made it. The newbies who debuted in 2012/2013 have better films than him. The older superstars remain unshaken. That doesnt leave John anywhere else apart from the cusp. He seems better off as a producer.

he was always stuck in a similar position. he had jism which was a success. i dont know why people consider him a non-star he had a good record. taxi 9211, dostana, race2, housefull2, force, new york, dhoom 1, shootout at wadala. he always had decent track record. he gets good opening when he does action/thriller genre or multistarrers. its the romcom genre in which he sucks and couldn't benefit.

I think his problem is that he's just not filmy enough. The man has an MBA, he can't do the things these other actors do to stay in the news. He's shy and he's private and has no PR whatsoever. The guy could be married for all we know and there's no news whatsoever. Most importantly though, he doesn't know how to cash onto his successes. He needs to do more in this day and age where perception is everything.

He is a good producer and decent actor .Comedy roles doesnt suit him .Otherwise he is fine as an actor

After Vicky Donor, I just hope he shifts totally into production and makes different movies. He is neither good nor really bad as an actor.Just average. The thing is he doesn't blend well in BW.

Yes I can cay this was one of his sucessful year and busiest too...4 films.

He always mentions how Force movie induced new lifeline to his career when he was having toughest time all films flopping. After which he is getting good success at BO.

Earlier he use to do films which did have loads of critical acclaim but no one bothered since they all bombed at BO.

He is now using his ideas, and making it happen a success at BO, this production house was established so that he gets to say what people dont relate to mainstream cinema.
And choosing the script for himself and for his PH wisely...

He may fail but he is now getting that confidence he can now make films he want. Madras Cafe and Vicky donor were some.

And DARE DARE he produce more films than acting😡 ... I am his fan for just 2 years...
I want him to balance out both even if it is hectic...I dont want to miss him :/
I dont know how much big...but definitely on right path :D

He is not of kind who himself want superstardom therefore never strive for it...like others do which you mentioned.
He have had many downs 3 years before both personally and professionally that he is afraid to put his personal life on stage...thats completely understandable
Just his film Madras Cafe won both critical and somewhat commercial success, and he just vanished, he says I dont like to have success parties for my PH films...huh...
Some people like that space and I respect it.
