Insults, verbal abuse, "you were never good", "you, filthy piece of trash", "good for nothing", "no wonder your parents left you" were the words she had listened for four years of her life.
She mentally shook herself for thinking about the past. Five years ago she had promised herself she would never dwell in the past. She had promised herself to move.
"Geet! Get your lazy arse here!" Rose shouted. She was her neighbour next door; an old lady of sixty-five but she behaved like a teenager, full of life and enjoyment. Rose was more than a woman full of life than she was.
"Yes, Rose" her head popped through the door.
"Oh, silly girl, come in here, in the livin' room" she shouted, her voice full of happiness. She chuckled softly.
"Yes, Rose, now what are you planning, chasing that woman that bought the last Vanilla Shampoo" she laughed.
The old woman's booming laughter echoed in the whole room. She waved at her. Just then Geet noticed that Rose was not alone. Next to her was a boy, who looked to years younger than her, maybe in his seventeen years and a handsome, hot stranger sitting on the coach riding a magazine while sipping his latte. A man, in his mid-fifties was watching soccer on the television situated on her left.
Everyone felt her presence and their eyes snapped to meet hers. She was embarrassed! She was wearing an over-sized red sweater and skinny white jeans with her hair up in a messy bun.
"Err - hey Rose!" she stuttered uncomfortably.
"Hey Geet!" Rose cried enthusiastically.
"Come here, my child, see them; they are Weston's friends" Rose explained. Weston was Rose's expired husband.
Geet forced a smile hoping it came out right.
"This is Mason" she beamed pointing to the teenager sitting on the couch with his PSP and then she pointed to the handsome dark haired stranger "and this is Maan and their father Macaulay" she said pointing to the man with grey hair. She smiled.
"Guys, this is Geet! My knight shining in armor for saving me from boredom..." she laughed as Macaulay smiled at her. Mason chuckled softly and Maan remained indifferent.
Geet felt his stare on her back. Holy Crap' she thought as she smiled at Rose he's checking me out!'.
"Is there any particular reason you called me for?" she asked as she felt that Maan did not smile.
"Yes, I want you to socialize with these young fine men" Rose announced. Geet's eyes widened as she choked her ice tea.
"Excuse me?" she asked Rose. Rose gave her the look. She had promised Rose that she would try dating and meeting guys of her age but she rarely tried to.
"Uh-huh, Rose, I really don't - ..." she started but Rose shushed her up.
"So, Mason was telling me about this party that he was throwing..." Rose started.
"No, Rose, I'm not going to dress up as a Goth and break in another teenage party with you!" Geet sighed.
"What!" she cried embarrassed. "I was not going to tell you that..." she trailed off as the men stared at her with amusement.
"She did that?" Mason asked.
"Yes" Geet said remembering how she had black-mailed her to come to the party with her. She shivered as she felt Maan's burning stare on her back.
"So you're going to attend Mason's party this Thursday and he's going to be your escort!" Rose chirped.
"I am?" Mason asked.
"He is?" Geet asked at the same time.
"No, Mason" Geet said turning to him "don't listen to Rose, half of the time no one knows what goes in her head!" she said shaking her head.
Mason smiled and replied "I don't mind." Geet stared at him, shocked.
"Hey! You're sixteen and I'm almost three years older than you and I'm sure you've got a girlfriend!" Geet replied.
"I'm seventeen" he smirked "and no, I don't have a girlfriend for now".
"Whatever, it's just a party!" Maan sneered. Geet shuddered at the sound of his oh-sexy voice even though he was quite rude. He did not know what she had been through and he wouldn't know.
"Fine".
_
Geet stared at her reflection; her skinny white jeans clung on her legs like a second skin. Her red t-shirt written in glitters Rocking Love' as she coated her lips with a thin layer of gloss. She slipped in her red converse; Mason had said that she could do casual as lots of girls who loved partying; some of them wore casual clothes. She had not been to a party for more than 2 years now. She had tried once but seeing couples grinding and literally doing the deed' on the floor was quite disgusting for her.
The hooted sound of Mason's black Porsche as she closed the door of the apartment and she dashed to the car.
"Hey" she said a bit breathless.
"Hey Geet, watcha' doing?" Mason chuckled at her flushed face. "Ready to break the house" he chuckled.
"Nope, Rose practically forced me to get out of the house!" she exclaimed smiling at him.
"Wait - dance and enjoy yourself and please use plastic!" Mason yelled over the noise. She blushed to the roots of her hair. She could not believe a seventeen-year old had told her that. She quickly rushed to blend herself in the crowd. Still thinking about her embarrassment, she bumped in someone.
"Sorry!" she cried over the noise.
"Whatever - just watch where -..." Maan started when Geet glared at him.
"You don't need to be an as$ about it okay! I said I'm sorry!" Geet snapped over the noise.
Maan's eyes darkened with anger. How dare that girl insult him in his own beach house! If Rose had not insisted he would not have look at her once! Sure, she was gorgeous one, but he was used of long-legs blondes, brunettes, red-heads, black-haired and others to fall at his feet.
"How dare you!" Maan said in anger as he gripped her arm angrily.
"Girls like you are disgusting...did you honestly think that I'll be a gentleman when you were so happy to come here and pretended to be unhappy when Rose asked you...you little -'
Geet squirmed in agony. His grasp was tight and painful. Instantly everything came in flashback.
Eight year old Geet looked at Arthur with her brown eyes filled with innocence.
"Papa, when is Mummy coming home?" she asked as she tugged his leg.
Arthur glanced at her, anger and hatred vibes coming from him.
He gripped her small tiny arm and pulled her to his side "you little good for nothing! It's because of you she died! Little piece of worthless shit!" he screamed.
Geet stared at him with her eyes full of tears.
"Papa, have I done something wrong?"
"Something wrong?" Arthur laughed maniacally, like a possessed devil.
"No wonder your parents did not want you - lucky them; they died before they could watch you; such useless child to grow up" he said twisting his arm as he unbuckled his belt to beat her with the silver end.
This was the first time he had beat her. Her cries and sobs were shaking the whole house. He sometimes would beat her so much that she could not sit properly. Arthur had threatened her not to say anything to anyone; to remain aloof and they had moved to Dallas the next week.
Sometimes he would beat her, broke her ribs, her bones, sprain her ankle; she would bleed and she had to clean and cook for him. He rarely gave her food and she was becoming weaker and weaker because of the lack of nutrients in her body.
People of her schools would label her as The Freak' as she would have cuts and bruises on her body. She always covered herself with her hoodies, cloaks and sweaters.
"Please don't hurt me" she had begged him.
Four years of beating her; he still had not let his frustration out.
"Arthur please..." she begged as her body hit the cold floor. She could not bring herself to say Daddy'.
"Begging me will make it worse; sweetie and here I thought you knew that" he laughed.
Geet could see his eyes flashing as blood oozed from her limbs. He smiled.
She gasped as she stared at him wide-eyed. Her breathes were coming in short pants as she tried to stand.
She felt like her lungs were becoming smaller and smaller and she could not inhale at all. Her face paled as sweat tricked down her forehead.
"Uh - are you okay?" Maan asked making the situation worse.
"What will you do huh? Hit me again? Slam me to the door or ban me from eating for a month?! I don't know why you are doing all this Arthur and you're not worth of calling to be my father!" she screamed as she shook violently; tears streaming down her puffy red eyes.
Maan gasped staring at her.
"Uh - are you okay?" he repeated.
She stared at him blankly; with no emotions.
And then she passed out.
"Wake up" a gentle voice broke her deep slumber. She tried to open her eyes but with so much of darkness and pressure; her eye lids drooped down. She tried to breathe through her mouth.
"Inhale and exhale slowly" the voice instructed.
Slowly she saw the dim light of the room and the silhouette of the person. She sat jerking the person's hand as she rubbed her eyes.
"Water" she croaked; her throat dried.
She was passed a glass and she gulped the liquid with one gorge.
She saw Maan and his confused and panic-stricken face. She frowned as she crossed her leg in Indian Style watching him.
"What am I doing here?"
"You don't remember anything?"
"Huh?" was her confuse reply.
"Do you know who I am?" he asked gently.
"Of course; I do, I have not loss my memory you know. You're Maan, Rose's friends' kid, right?"
"What am I - "she started and stopped, her eyes widened with fear.
"I am sorry, I ruined your party! I am so sorry" she said quickly; her voice cracking. "I fainted again, didn't I?" she asked and did not wait for his reply. "I had a panic attack! Sorry - uh, I need to go, just tell Mason, I've left" she said standing from the couch.
"No - wait, what did you mean by and I quote you're not worth of calling to be my father'"
Her face paled. She stood frozen as she stared at him.
