US Open 2013 Winners

It was time for the 133rd edition of the US Open, the fourth and final Grand Slam event of the year. Did you know that the United States Open Tennis Championships is a hard Court tennis tournament which is one of the oldest tennis championships in the world!!!! Interesting, Right!!! Well, all eyes were on defending champions in the singles events, Andy Murray and Serena Williams. So did they manage to win their title back?? Let's find it out.

Talking about the women's singles finals, for the second consecutive year, Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka did contest for the women's final. It was a tough fight for the title. The match did go on to the third set. But in the end, the power of Serena was too strong for Victoria Azarenka. No. 1 seed Serena Williams at the end did defeat No. 2 seed Victoria Azarenka, 7-5, 6-7 (6-8), 6-1, to win the 2013 U.S. Open championship. It's the fifth U.S. Open title of her career and her second in a row.

Roger Federer did continue with this poor form and was defeated in the 4th Round byTommy Robredo. Andy Murray the defending champ lost to Stanislas Wawrinka in the Quarterfinals. So it was time for the two champs to take on each other in the finals. Yes, we are talking about Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

Well, everyone was expecting an intense finale, and so it was. It was time for World Number two Rafael Nadal and World No. 1 Novak Djokovic to impress the world with their amazing tennis. The fans were expecting the game to go till the 5th set, but the Power of Nadal was too much for Djokovic and the final score was 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Did you know that both Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams collected the biggest payday in tennis history of $3.6M ($2.6M for the championship and an added $1M bonus for winning the 2013 US Open Series)? OMG. That is huge. After this win Nadal now has 13 Grand Slam titles to his name, and the only legends who have won more in their career are Pete Sampras (14) and Roger Federer (17).
