So this week's DOTW is on... REMAKES...

Shocker... well not exactly... recently alot of regional movies are being remade in other languages... the list just keeps growing...😕

And every time a movie is being remade... the very first question that pops up in our
minds is... Is it going to be better??🤔

So this week, i thought maybe we can share what are our thoughts on remakes... and here's some questions that can get you started...

1. Which movies have you watched recently which are remakes & did you like them?

2. Does remaking movies mean there's a lack of creativity in the industry?

3. Is it fair to put high expectations on a movie based on the success of the original?

4. What should a remake be : scene-to-scene copy of the original or simply an adaptation?

5. To Remake or To Not Remake?

Now Its You're time ;)

1. Which movies have you watched recently which are remakes & did you like them?

Nanban i guess...not liked it much because 3idiots is one all time awesome movie..but it was good :)

2. Does remaking movies mean there's a lack of creativity in the industry?

It does not mean that...new movies with lots of new things comes in every industry :)

3. Is it fair to put high expectations on a movie based on the success of the original?

I think yes...but at the end of the day it depends on how it stands to people's expectations 😊

4. What should a remake be : scene-to-scene copy of the original or simply an adaptation?

it will be better if it is just a adaptation...because different people have different expectations..so lots of things differ from region to region

5. To Remake or To Not Remake?

To Remake :)

Nice Topic..

1. Which movies have you watched recently which are remakes & did you like them?

3 Idiots remake into Nanban.. Although all the actors had done their part very successfully, im still feel 3 idiots is the best..

2. Does remaking movies mean there's a lack of creativity in the industry?

Not really.. People remake so that they can get profit if the movie hits Box Office...

3. Is it fair to put high expectations on a movie based on the success of the original?

Its fair.. If they producer or director thinks they can have high expectations on their movies.. why dont we as audience...

4. What should a remake be : scene-to-scene copy of the original or simply an adaptation?

Its depends.. For an example, Nanban( scene to scene copy ) failed to impress me since im fond with 3 idiots.. and its same goes to Aegan ( simply an adaptation ) is not that good compared to Main Hoon Na..

I feel its depends on the person perspective.. I loved all the remake movie of Jeyam Ravi coz although its a remake movie.. we can see his touch in there..

5. To Remake or To Not Remake?

1. Which movies have you watched recently which are remakes & did you like them?

- Deiva Thirumagal is a remake of sorts. This film was inspired by the 2001 film, I am Sam, starring Sean Penn. I remember watching the english film when i was younger and loving it. So when it was said Vikram's Deiva Thirumagal was a remake I was hoping it'd be just as good. I wasn't at all disappointed. I loved the tamil version too.

2. Does remaking movies mean there's a lack of creativity in the industry?

- No, I don't believe so. It just means that people have a good eye for those films that have seemingly excelled in creativity. Remaking films can also reach out to different audiences, perhaps people who don't watch films in other languages. They'd get to experience the films plot while there is also the profits the movie would make to consider.

3. Is it fair to put high expectations on a movie based on the success of the original?

- Yes, I think it is fair because when someone decides to remake a movie they should know that there is already a level of appreciation received for the film. If it did exceptionally well in one language then it stands to reason that people would expect no less in another. If the movie is being remade then it must be for the reason that it has high potential and people would expect for it to do well in all aspects.

4. What should a remake be : scene-to-scene copy of the original or simply an adaptation?

I think this depends on the director and cast. I've seen scene-to-scene remakes that are a hit to people who have not seen the film original but boring to those who have. But I've also seen films where it was an adaptation of the original and failed to impress. It all boils down to the screenplay and the cast. And the way the director adapts the original.

Personally though, if I was to choose between the two I prefer adaptations only because if it is scene-to-scene then it is predictable and they might as well dub the film though I have to say I can't stand dubbed films I'd usually end u finding the original and watching it.

5. To Remake or To Not Remake?

Remake...definitely because there are some great movies out there that are worth sharing with another audience however I'd rather the directors add their own flavor, style, and events to it...
