Chapter 85
Mid-morning sunlight spilled across the bed, created pools of warmth amidst the nest of covers. Khushi rose on one elbow and stared down at the sleeping form of the man she loved.
Loved. Adored. Cherished. More than anything. Sometimes when Khushi stopped to think about the supersonic speed at which they had transitioned from being employer-employee to being in a relationship and ultimately becoming man and wife, she felt overwhelmed. She had never imagined in her wildest dreams that she could she love a man she'd known for such a short time so intensely. And that that man would be Arnav Singh Raizada. Khushi watched as Arnav sighed in his sleep and she smiled. As overwhelming as it might be, Khushi knew that not only did he have her heart, but her soul and now there was no way she could even imagine a future without this man because Arnav Singh Raizada was now well and truly the centre of her universe she thought as she traced the arch of his eyebrow.
He opened his eyes.
'Good morning.' Arnav's sleep filled voice was low and husky and its warmth flooded through her. Khushi smiled. Waking up next to him was becoming one of her favourite moments of the day.
'Good morning.'
Arnav shifted so he could cradle her. Khushi rested her head on his shoulder, breathed in the warm, unique scent of him. Idly, Arnav ran a few strands of hair through his fingers.
'Sleep well?' he enquired.
'Better than I can remember.'
Arnav pulled her just a little bit closer, that primal part of him clearly satisfied. 'Good.'
Khushi snuggled deeper into his side as she slid a thigh over one of his legs just as her tummy rumbled loudly. Arnav laughed softly; clearly last night's activities had been rather energetic and it was time to feed his tigress.
After a leisurely breakfast in their private garden, Khushi picked up her cup of tea and blew off a cloud of steam. She took a sip before pulling out a vistor's guide to the city which she had discovered while wandering about their magnificent suite. Now that she was well fed and rested, Khushi couldn't wait to get out and explore the sights and sounds of Singapore. Chattering nineteen to a dozen, she began rattling off the names of the places she wanted to see not realising that Arnav was looking at her intently with a half smile on his face. Khushi paused only when she realised that he hadn't said a single word.
'Why are you looking at me like that Arnav?' she asked somewhat confused.
Arnav leaned forward and kissed the corner of her mouth.
Self consciously, Khushi touched the spot he had just kissed, 'do I have jam or something on my face?' she asked. Her amma was always chiding her for wearing rather than eating her food.
Arnav shook his head, 'Nope. But you taste better than jam,' he said as he winked at her and smiled to himself - Khushi had absolutely no idea what he had planned for her next.
Khushi shook her head, 'Arnav, are you even listening to me? I was saying we could go visit these places today,' she suggested as she pointed to several points on the page.
Arnav his smile as he took a sip of his coffee. He hadn't showered or shaved yet, and overnight stubble heavily darkened his jaw and only added to his serious sexuality. He inched forward and slid his hand around her nape sending crazy shivers racing down her spine. He looked rugged and dangerously handsome as he leaned toward her and took the booklet from her hand. Khushi wanted to protest its absence, but he was moving closer an inch at time until he brushed his lips against hers ...slowly, seductively. His tongue moved against hers and made her gasp. Khushi wasn't a big fan of coffee, but mixed with Arnav Singh Raizada; she could easily become addicted to the favour.
'Khushi, I have something else planned for you. And it doesn't involve sight seeing,' Arnav said softly against her lips.
Khushi pulled back and swatted his hand which lay on her thigh, 'Arnav Singh Raizada, we are not spending another minute in bed,' she said gruffly.
Arnav smiled, 'Khushi, I don't recall saying anything about you, me and a bed, but if that's where your mind is, then the least I can do is to oblige and trust me, the pleasure would be all mine,' he drawled with a smirk, his brown eyes gleaming with serious mischief.
Eyes widening, and her jaw dropping open, Khushi almost spluttered at the blantant innuendo in his voice. Never had the word pleasure' sounded so heavily laced with sensual suggestion. She inhaled sharply.' I don't think so,' she hissed, practically squirming. She tried to get up but Arnav slid an arm around her waist and pulled her to him so that she was sitting on his lap. He caught hold of her chin and tilted her face so that she had no option but to meet his gaze.
Helpless, Arnav laughed as he pulled Khushi even deeper onto his lap,' ok, Khushi, I'll stop teasing you.' He glanced at his watch; it was time to get moving. Picking Khushi's hand, he brushed his lips against her palm, smiling as she unvoluntarily flinched as his stubble tickled her skin. 'Khushi, I have something else planned for you,' he said as his eyes locked with hers, and its time to get moving,' as he slid Khushi off his lap and led her back to their suite.
Khushi walked into the ensuite bathroom and smiled; her everprepared husband had laid out an outfit for her.
Emerging a short while later, Khushi walked out of the bedroom towards the huge living room. Arnav was there, standing by a long dining table. He was indecently handsome as usual. Unable to help herself, she let her gaze move over the hard, masculine planes of his profile and linger on the strong lines of his trimmed but stubbled jaw. He was wearing a soft loose-fitting charcoal grey t-shirt and a pair of black cargo pants which hung easily around his slim hips. As her eyes roamed down his body Khushi decided that if she had ever wanted to know the difference between expensive man dressed in a formal dinner suit and expensive man dressed casually, then she was looking at the perfect example.
As if sensing her scrutiny, Arnav turned around. His breath caught in his throat. Khushi looked ravishing. Her silky long black hair danced on her shoulders in loose curls, her gentle curves were emphasised by the flowing material of the white sundress he had selected for her. With large gold hoop earrings, bangles on her wrists, and strappy wedge sandals giving her height as well as confidence, Khushi looked both elegant and sexy.
It was showtime Arnav decided, a gentle smile played about his mouth as he held out his hand.' Shall we?'
Khushi looked at Arnav's hand, 'where are going?' she asked as she tried to gain her balance - high heels weren't her forte.
Arnav simply smiled.
'When will your surprises stop?' Khushi said as she waited, as if she expected him to answer. When he just stared back at her quietly, Khushi exhaled, stepped forward and took his offered hand.
'Arnav...' she tried pleading again as she linked her arm with his, curiosity getting the better of her.
Arnav rolled his eyes; Khushi was a minx when she wanted to be. ' Don't think you can bat your eyes at me and get me to spill my plans baby. You're beautiful, but I'm not going to fall for it Khushi,' he said as they walked out of their suite.
Their checkout was handled with extreme efficiency and before Khushi knew it, she and Arnav were inside a luxurious top of the range white four-wheel drive BMW racing towards an unknown destination.
Khushi frowned as she tried to work out where they might be going but given that they were in a foreign country, she might as well be trying to find her bearings and final destination on another planet. She felt her hand being squeezed, 'relax and enjoy the ride. You wanted a surprise Khushi, so you'll just have to wait till we get there,' Arnav's voice was surprisingly gentle and Khushi found herself being distracted as she began watching the unfamiliar scenery flying past.
It was not long before Khushi caught her first glimpse of the water and saw the bright morning sunlight sparkling on the waves of the turquoise ocean. Outside the car window, food vendors were opening colorful umbrellas along the road and people were already gathering on the beach to work or play. Khushi opened her window and heard the roar of the ocean crashing outside and felt the fresh, salty tang of the breeze on her face as she looked out to the Singapore Yacht Club. She turned around, 'Arnav can we stop and have a look? I've always wanted to go to a boat harbour,' she said excitedly. Rolling his eyes in fake annoyance, if you want to, I guess we can stop,' he said as he hid a smile. Oh this was easier than he thought decided Arnav as he loudly and deliberately instructed the driver to stop at the harbour.
As the car came to slow stop, running a careless hand through his hair Arnav thrust open his door and got out of the vehicle and walked around to Khushi's side. It was almost mid-day and the sun was now directly overhead, the air outside was warm and heavy with humidity even though there was a delicious breeze blowing up off the ocean. The scent of salt was invigorating and Arnav took in a deep gratifying breath as he held his hand out to Khushi to help her out of the car.
Taking his hand, Khushi felt Arnav wrap his arms around her as he helped out out of the high car. Even in four inch heels, he towered over her and Khushi couldn't help but appreciate how much taller and stronger he was. His body was hard and warm against hers shielding them from the fresh wind blowing in from the ocean which was twisting her hair around them as she felt the hot sunshine against her skin. The world seemed suspended in time as Arnav's eyes locked with hers.
Khushi took a deep breath of the fresh, salty air as she looked around. In the distance, a long white sandy beach to her right was peaceful while to her left lay a harbour where the ocean seemed impossibly blue in the hot sunlight. A slight breeze swayed the palm trees over the far-off cliffs, the colourful fishing boats were bobbing off the shore as the seagulls flew freely over the ocean.
Taking Khushi's hand in his, Arnav began walking slowly. The harbour was filled with assorted boats of all sizes and colors and Khushi's eyes were drawn to one in particular - not because of its size or the fact that it was clearly a very expensive vessel, or even the fact that it was isolated in its on pen. But its name. She smiled as she read it again. Arnav slid off his sunglasses as he traced Khushi's path of vision and then returned his gaze to her only to find her wearing one of her beautiful dreamy smiles. It was time to come clean.
'Like it?' he asked softly.
Perplexed, Khushi faced Arnav, 'uh... the boat? I was just...I mean it's... pretty...um...big,' she said.
Arnav shook head and laughed. Trust Khushi not to mince her words. 'Khushi, I was trying to surprise you but you found your surprise yourself.'
Confused Khushi looked at Arnav who raised his eyebrows and then cocked his head towards the vessel that Khushi has been admiring, 'welcome to the next part of our honeymoon,' he said softly.
Khushi's eyes widened, 'are going on that boat Arnav?'
'Khushi, it's not a boat', it's a super-yacht and yes we are,' he said as he led them towards the gang plank.
Khushi's eyes widened even more as they drew closer to the boat'. At 121 feet in length, with a frigate hull, lightweight composite superstructure and spectacular structural glass covering her strikingly graceful exterior of fluid curves, she was simply stunning. But it wasn't all about looks. With two Caterpillar diesel engines with more than 2,000 horsepower each, a range of about 2,500 nautical miles on a full tank of fuel; this vessel could race to a cruising speed of 17 knots (about 19.5 mph or 31.5 km/h). Amongst her six cabins, was an indulgent masterstate room with its king bed, two showers, steam room and spa. Had Khushi asked, she would have been told that the vessel also had a 13-seat cinema, gym, and a party deck complete with its own grand piano, barbeque, several seating areas and a spa pool among her extensive list of amenities. Offcourse, not to be missed, the yacht had a full-time crew of 10, including a gourmet sous chef.
Arnav led Khushi up the bridge where they came to a stop and waited while a uniformed officer checked their passports and then led them aboard. Wow thought Khushi dazedly as she reached the top of the stairs and emerged into a breathtaking space. The deck stretched away from her in both directions -one end housing a seating area with huge white cushions and a steel-topped bar, while at the other end, a spa pool bubbled and glowed azure-blue in the sunlight.
'Welcome on board Mr and Mrs Raizada,' Khushi heard. She turned around to see a smartly dressed older gentleman in an official uniform walking towards them. 'I'm Captain Hadley, and this is First Officer De Santis,' he announced, 'and It's our pleasure to have you aboard the Happy Heart.'
Khushi looked up at Arnav, 'Happy Heart. Khush Dil. You,' he said softly as he brushed his lips against her cheek. Khushi smiled as she tried not to swoon. Could this honeymoon get any more perfect? 'Is this boat yours?' she asked. Arnav interlaced his fingers with Khushi's as they began walking down the deck, 'Nope. She belongs to a very good friend of mine. I was trying to think about where to take you and then remembered this yacht and when I recalled her name, I thought it would be the perfect way to whisk you away from the rest of the world for a few days.' he said, his voice low and husky.
And it was. Perfect.
A few days later, Arnav had to admit life aboard the yacht had surpassed his every expectation. They had been away at sea for five days and had sailed down the Indonesian Islands, over the northern tip of Australia, through the Great Barrier Reef, through the stunning Whitsunday Islands eventually arriving in Sydney where they had stopped over night for the crew to replenish supplies while Arnav took Khushi out for a meal at Aria, one of Sydney's very expensive and exclusive restaurants overlooking the Sydney Harbour. Now back at sea, it was a clear day out on the South Pacific Ocean and he and Khushi were lazing on the deck. The sun was high, the afternoon warm, the waves rhythmic about the hull of the boat as she efficiently raced through the water. Arnav closed his eyes and he could smell salt and their suntan lotion. The cry of seagulls competed with Khushi's laughter as she chatted with their steward, Sangwan, who had brought them a delicious brunch of fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, warm, sweet chocolate croissants and coffee.
A little while later, having eaten their fill, Arnav and Khushi were both lounging on the soft white cushions feeling heavy and replete. Khushi was flicking through a magazine and Arnav was supposed to be reading the paper which he really couldn't be bothered to do now. Admittedly, it had taken him a few days to mentally switch off and accustom himself to not doing anything. He felt strange not having his phone ringing every few minutes or being required to make decisions, simple or difficult. It was strangely liberating. Looking across at Khushi, Arnav smiled as he felt his heart constricting with a still overwhelming feeling of intense love for this woman beside. Over the last few days, they had spent countless hours talking about anything and everything. Childhood dreams, heartbreak over the loss of some of those dreams, soft laughter or sometimes tears often emerged as confessions of deep held secrets never shared with another soul were shared by husband and wife. Arnav had never let another individual peel back his layers to learn about the real Arnav and he couldn't help but be amazed by Khushi's insight into his psyche; when had Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada managed to decode him so well he wondered? How had she managed to establish that comfort level with him that no one else had ever achieved? When had she become so critically important to him that it physically made his heart constrict to imagine his world without her.
'Arnav you're staring at me again,' Khushi murmured as she kept her eyes on the magazine. Caught out, Arnav instinctively turned his gaze to the newspaper, 'so what if I am, it's not like it's my fault,' he muttered under his breath. Khushi smiled as Arnav turned back to face her. His strong jawline was dark with unshaved stubble; his untamed hair was blowing freely in the breeze and was full of curl quite unlike its usual strictly gelled back style. Taking advantage of the sunny morning, Arnav had shed his shirt and was wearing a pair of loose white linen pants. Khushi let her gaze drift down his body, from his broad shoulders to his sculpted chest, along his long legs to his feet and everything in between, enjoying the opportunity to return the favour through such a blatant appraisal.
Maybe it was the fact that they were all alone in the middle of the ocean. Well apart from the the crew who were mainly invisible, but Khushi suddenly felt bold enough to rise to her knees and straddle Arnav with her legs on either side of his thighs as she leaned forward and dropped butterfly soft kisses on his forehead and each cheek before placing her lips on his.
'Ooohhh Mrs R is getting rather brave isn't she? I think we should test just how brave she could be!' Arnav smiled. It had been a very long time since the dear devil had graced him with his presence. He knew she was waiting for him to take the lead so he remained motionless until he felt Khushi nibbling his lips before slowly opening her mouth to him. He waited as he felt her hands slide across the back of his shoulders before sinking into his hair.
'Oh Arnav, If you can't handle the heat you shouldn't play with fire,' whispered another familiar angelic sagely voice.
And that's exactly what Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada was. Pure, unadulterated fire that sent him up in flames the minute she touched him. Screw the Devil, Arnav decided.
Khushi felt rather than heard Arnav's low groan as he just let go of his restraint began kissing her back with a sense of extreme urgency as he slid his tongue deep into her and he explored her until she was trembling.
It seemed like the most natural thing in the world for Arnav to sweep Khushi up into his arms and stride down the hall to the master stateroom and it was a quite a long while before anyone saw Mr and Mrs Raizada again that day.
