Hello! See I'm so nice haha next update so soon! (:
Through The Monsoon: Part 25 Tanveer walked towards the breakfast table, fuming with anger. Heck, even fuming was an understatement. All she had wanted to do last night was to get a glass of water from the kitchen, but what she ended up witnessing was completely beyond her imagination. She happened to notice that Asad was in Zoya's room, and so naturally she walked up to the door, which was thankfully slightly ajar anyway, just to find Asad and Zoya standing very close to each other, Zoya's fingers laced in Asad's hair. Asad's back was facing her, but she could see Zoya's closed eyes over his shoulder, and from what she could make out, they were closed in passion. Any sane person's only logical conclusion would be that they were kissing!
Tanveer crushed the piece of bread on her plate as she watched Dilshaad and Zoya exchange pleasantries over the breakfast table. After that mind-blowing shouting session between them yesterday, she was convinced that Asad would never agree to marry Zoya on Friday. But it seems she was wrong; very, very wrong. She had to do something to pull this thorn named Zoya out of her life. She released the crushed bread from her hand suddenly when she realized that Najma was watching her confusedly, and quickly plastered a fake smile on her face. Najma relaxed and smiled back before resuming her breakfast. Tanveer controlled her eyes from rolling. Putting up this pretence was becoming more and more difficult. She had to do something soon.
"Good morning," Asad greeted, by way of announcing his arrival to the breakfast table. Two women acknowledged his greeting cheerfully, while the other two simply glared at him in response, albeit for completely different reasons. Tanveer controlled her urge to clench her fists. How dare he kiss Zoya and spoil all her plans! On the other hand, Zoya controlled her urge to snap at him. How dare he kiss her teasingly and walk off without explanation!
Asad simply picked up his newspaper and began reading it, effectively hiding his face from everyone at the table. There's only so long someone can control themselves from grinning. Najma got up from her seat to get a cup of coffee for her bhaijaan, but quickly sat back down when her ammi threw her a look. She suppressed her laughter as her mother nudged Zoya, who remained as oblivious as ever.
"Zoya, Asad kay liye coffee le aao na," Dilshaad finally instructed, giving up on trying to send Zoya subtle hints. Zoya seemed to be highly distracted by something. Her lips curved into what looked like a look of displeasure before she pushed her chair back noisily and stomped to the kitchen. Dilshaad watched Zoya amusedly and shook her head, before returning her attention to her breakfast. Well, she had to put an end to their fight somehow after last night's showdown.
Zoya poured the black and bitter coffee that Asad enjoyed so much into his black mug, gritting her teeth as she did. She had half a mind to tell Phuphi that she didn't want to pour the coffee for her irritatingly smug son, but then again, she didn't want to be rude to Phuphi either. Or at least that's what she told herself. She took in a deep breath to clear her thoughts before walking back to the breakfast table.
Asad sensed Zoya nearing him from the back, but kept his eyes trained on the newspaper anyway, feigning ignorance. Zoya stood there silently for a while, before clearing her throat loudly and stretching her arm out to offer the coffee mug to Asad by holding it up right in front of his face. Asad put his paper down and looked at the coffee mug casually, before pointing at the rim of mug where a small drop of coffee lay in wait to spill over. Zoya rolled her eyes and immediately brought the mug to her own mouth without thinking, sucking that drop off of the rim.
Asad watched Zoya close her mouth over the edge of his coffee mug, and broke into a small smile. He watched in amusement as she quickly moved the mug away again, like as though it was on fire, as realization dawned upon her. She looked at the coffee mug in horror for a while, before turning back to the kitchen, deciding that maybe she should just pour him another mug. But Asad was swift to stop her, by wrapping his fingers around her wrist. He closed his hand over hers as he took the mug from her hand, sliding his palm over her knuckles every so lightly.
"Thank you Miss Farooqui," Asad cordially acknowledged, before turning the mug to that very part of the rim that Zoya had accidentally taken a sip from and bringing it his mouth, closing his lips over it as he took a gulp of the strong coffee. Zoya's cheeks flushed a deep red despite her anger from before, and settled back down in the seat next to him, choosing to concentrate on her breakfast instead.
"KISS KISS ko bahar jaana hai aaj? Jis KISSiko jaana hai, please be alert. The newspaper reports a high chance of another big thunderstorm heading our way in the afternoon," Asad suddenly announced, sneakily making sure he could see Zoya's reaction from the corner of his eye. A loud clatter followed in close succession as Zoya dropped her spoon on her plate in shock. Asad suppressed his laughter and casually continued chewing his food.
"Accha? In that case, I had better head to the market right now! Zoya tum..." Dilshaad replied, but trailed off when she caught sight of Zoya. She had intended on going to the market with Zoya, but it seemed that Zoya was too preoccupied with staring at Asad. That's when she realized that Asad too was holding her gaze boldly, his face about to erupt into a smile that he was obviously holding in. Dilshaad shook her head in amusement for the second time that morning, realizing at long last that these two were simply sharing some inside joke. She decided that maybe she should just leave them to it.
"Tanveer, tum mere saath market chalogi please? Come on let's go now," Dilshaad said, deciding to ask Tanveer along instead, just to let Zoya and Asad share their moment in peace. What she didn't note was the fury on Tanveer's face as she stood up from the table, stuck in a spot once again because of Dilshaad. She was beginning to feel that Dilshaad was the bigger obstacle between her and Asad than Zoya was. She sighed dejectedly and followed Dilshaad out of the house. Her plans against Zoya would just have to wait until she got back.
"KISSiko aur bread chahiye?" Zoya asked once Dilshaad and Tanveer had left, holding up a stack of bread. If Asad thought he was the only one who could tease her about the kiss, he was so wrong. Didn't he kiss her last night too? And he did it entirely intentionally as well.
"Agar KISSiko KISSi bhi cheez ki zaroorat ho, toh usse khud apne muh se kehna chahiye," Asad replied, making Zoya gasp as she set the stack back down on the table. Najma watched her bhaijaan and Zoya in confusion, before shrugging and getting up from the table. These two would forever remain beyond her comprehension.
"Main college jaa rahi hoon. Allah hafiz bhaijaan, Allah hafiz Zoya!" Najma said as she took her leave, grabbing her bag from the sofa before walking out of the front door. Distracted, Zoya turned to look at Najma as she left, and when she turned back, Asad had already walked off to his room. Argh! The nerve of this guy!
