Do you think World War 3 is going to happen with America and Great Britain threatening Syria. Iran and Russia are also threatening America and Great Britain that they'll retaliate if USA/UK attack Syria! This might sound a bit premature but four of the worlds toughests countries are threatening each other. I'm just worried that World War 3 will break out.

Probably not, They have to have China join them, and they won't. China can't afford a war with the US given that they buy over 80% of what they make. A war with the US would cause their economy to collapse within a week.
The only other allies they really have is Iran, however they aren't a threat to them.If Russia wants to start a war with them they will have to go at it alone, and they will never win.

I read that lavrov said russia has no intention of going to war with anyone, I've not read much about china (apart from the stock market plummeting due to possible military strikes on Syria). So where are all these WW3 comments coming from?

No one is going to risk blowing up the world over a collapsing country. The frank truth is that Syria does not have enough oil or other resources to make anyone risk another world war over them. Russia has not said that they will defend Syria. All they're saying is that western intervention will cause major stability problems in the region. They're probably correct. When the US and their allies inevitably do launch airstrikes the Russians will just complain about how unjustified the intervention is. They won't do anything militarily. They never do in case you haven't paid attention to all of the conflicts they have opposed in the past. No one did a damn thing when America launched a full scale invasion of Iraq in 2003. One of the most oil rich countries in the world.

Kinda it really depends on what you mean by afraid if your talking in terms of military not so much but economically and politically they do have a small hand on their economy.

No, I don't think so, Russia seems to be taking the view 'that's the US and the West at it again', Syria is only one of the trading and strategic partners of Russia and if push comes to shove they can afford to lose them and therefore are not going to waste military resources on them.

It's different for the West however because the US and the UK have a tacit agreement to support Israel, so it's going to be yet another limited Middle Eastern war, bad enough, but the objective seems to be to take out Hezbollah who allegedly pose the greatest threat to Israel through their power base in Lebanon.

So, take out Assad in Syria and the Shias in Iran, never mind if the only way of doing this is to support Sunni Al-qaeda elements in Syria, they may pose a general threat to the West but we justify wars to fight them in Iraq, Afghanistan and more lately Pakistan, their opponents the largely Shia Hezbollah are more of an immediate and specific threat to Israel.

I'm not anti-semitic btw, but it should be possible to criticise policies of the current Israeli government without attracting this label, Israel is after all a relatively free-speech democracy where all shades of opinion are tolerated even if they are not represented in their current government, so there are opinions of both the right and left in Israel, very much like Britain, i.e. we could possibly assume that Netanyahu is criticised in his own country in the same way we criticise Hague and Cameron, it is therefore more anti-Semitic to class Israel as one entity of opinion.

It looks like it will be yet one more horrible skirmish in the Middle east, extra hundreds if not thousands dead or injured and suffering and nothing to show for it, except the inevitable brutalisation of war, and the furtherance of desperate extremist elements from both sides, and any attempts at a peace process set back several more decades, but not WW3, I don't think from current evidence.

^ i don't think Israel has much to do with the current imbroglio if at all. If the US attacks Syria, and i think they will, it will be for the very good reason that they need to deter the North Koreans and others from ever thinking of using chemical weapons. The US would lose all credibility if they did nothing.

it should also all be over in a few days. I don't believe the US has any interest in toppling Assad (knowing fully well that the rebels are probably worse) but they will want to punish him by degrading some of his weapons facilities. They would also likely want to target the republican guards who allegedly are responsible for the chemical attack.. So tomahawk missiles and other high precision systems are on the cards...

of course, things can go really south if Assad does something really stupid and retaliates. That's a possibility that unfortunately cannot be discounted given the track record of middle-eastern dictators in making one series of strategic miscalculations after another..

but no way a WWIII. Other than sending out a strong message against the use of chemical weapons, the US will have no interest in escalating matters...The Russians probably know that and beyond making token noises, will not do anything... Happies ending soon.😊

I would borrow this phrase from a Russian official, "Money with a grenade" thats how US is treating Islamic nations like Syria. Ofcourse Syrian chemical weapons should be destroyed but I doubt its the sole motive of the conflict here. Iraq, Libya and Syria...they all follow a pattern. Israel situation more or less wold be status quo, their regime and International support would keep them away from a direct conflict.
Russia though shares great relationship with Assad, but will not enter into a direct conflict. Just the thought of its economic repercussions is enough to put them off. There would be war of a different type, Russia would provide more support weapon support in Damascus, forge ties with Iran, China and ofcourse non corporation with Us. I see a rise in sponsored terrorism as well.
Anybody who thinks this war will send a strong signal to those who are creating chemical weapons is being too optimistic, rather I might see a secret spurt of them all around. World would continue to be a ticking bomb.
