Recap:

Mere Jeewan saathi is a story that revolves around the two families, Mathurs and the Vermas... Living in a healthy and loving environment, both families tie up in a bond, that marriage makes between the two families... The eldest son of Mathurs, Ashutosh, is married to the eldest daughter of the Vermas, Nidhi... Being married for 3 years, now Nidhi is expecting her first baby with Ashutosh... Mathurs being a Doctors family, have their Daughters -in-law as Doctors... Their Second Son, Ranganath, is married to the second daughter of the Vermas,Anji, who is Nidhi€™s first cousin, and her best friend... The youngest son of the Mathurs, Rohan, is a carefree guy, who wants to prove something on his own... He€™s been one-sidedly loved by the youngest daughter of the Vermas,Neeti, who is Nidhi€™s real younger sister... But, due to his non-reciprocation, she leaves him, unsaid of her feelings... On the other hand, Rohan brings in his Lady-love, Dr. Mallika, who is almost a decade older to her, and once was Ashutosh€™s friend, and was in love with him, but, because, he loved Nidhi, he never reciprocated Mallika€™s feelings... Now, because Mallika is back, and striving hard to become a part of the Mathur family, she still has her eyes on Ashutosh, and does every second trick in her mind to remove Nidhi and somewhat her baby out of her way... Once trying by creating misunderstanding between them, by accusing Ashutosh of attempt at Molestation, before the family, but, fails miserably, as Ashni€™s trust in each other was unshakeable... Her next trick that she worked on was to trip Nidhi down the staircase, by butting marbles on the stairs... But, again Ashutosh was well in time and saved Nidhi from falling and thus the baby from any hurt... But, becomes very-very furious, as he comes to know, it has been done by Mallika... And realising that, as long as Mallika is there with them, Nidhi, and the baby€™s health is at stake, and thus, announces to leave the house, with Nidhi...

After explaining his and Nidhi€™s stance to his parents, Ashutosh and Nidhi left the house to Rampur, where they had their own cottage, along with a Branch of Kotnis there... On Ashu€™s mother€™s explaination to one of her once student on phone, Dr. Vidya, an OBG, offers to help help Nidhi and Ashutosh out, as she stays just the next door with her Hubby and children and also works at KGH, Rampur... Ashni, specially Nidhi develops a sweet bond with the Doc instantly... In the morning Rohan comes to know from his miffed mother that Ashni have left home... This is overheared by Ranji, who had come back early, because, Anji wasn€™t feeling well... To save himself from Ranga€™s accusing eyes, Rohan left with Mallika outside, as she had some work... After settling Anji in bed, Ranga comes to know about how and why Ashni left the house... He resolves to bring his Bhaiya-bhabhi back...

Chapter-11

Ranga seemed to be furious hearing that why his brother has left the house, and resolves infront of his Parents that he shall bring Bhaiya-bhabhi back... To this Baba interrupted him...

BB: Na! Na Ranga... Aise nahin beta... Ranga dekh beta, ye Ashu ka faisla hai, iss ghar ki, Nidhi ki, bachhe ki sabki bhalaayi ke liye usne ye khadam uthaaya hai... Haan! Main jaanta hoon, iss ghar ke yu bikharne se hum sab maayoos hain, lekin beta, humesha ke liye hum sab door ho jaayein, isse achha toh thode waqt ke liye dur hona hai na...

Ranga( Looking incredulously): Baba... Ye aap bol rahe hain... Toh aap iss ghar ke tukde hone se prabhaawit nahi hue? Aapne bhaiya ko roka kyu nahi baba?

BB: Ranga, kya koi bhi baap apne bete se alag hone se prabhaawit nahi hota? Bilkul! Mai bhi hua hoon... lekin Ranga, mujhe ek baat pata hai... Ashutosh har tarah se, is zimmedaar, laayak aur samajhdaar ladka hai... Aur mujhe uske decision par poora yaqeen hai... Agar wo ye ghar chodke gaya hai, toh uske peeche ka maqsad wo bata chuka hai humein... Aur jis tarah Rohan ne apni zindagi ke faisle lene ka khud hi mann banaaya hai, phir toh Ashu toh uska bada bhai hai, usko bhi, uske koi faisle lene ka adhikaar hona chahiye Ranga... Hum sab joint family mein rehte hain, usi parivesh mei bade hue hain, tum logo ko bhi aise hi paala hai beta, lekin, privacy koi cheez hoti hai, jo chaahe family nuclear ho ya joint, pati-patni ke kuch aapsi vichaar hote hain, unke decisions hote hain, jo unko khudko lene ka haq hai, usmein dakhal andaazi karna achhi baat nahi hai Ranga... Ashu aakhir ye sab, iss parivaar, Nidhi aur apne bachhe ki bhalaayi ke liye hi toh kar raha hai...Rahi baat usko rokne ki, wo maine aur teri maa ne kiya tha... Lekin, jo baat wo keh raha hai, wo ghalat nahi hai...

Ranga: Phir bhi baba... I mean, hum aise kaise, ek bhai bhai ki khushi ke liye, dusre bhai ki khushi, zindagi ka gala nahin ghot sakte hain... Main Rohan ki khilaafat nahi kar raha... Jaise Bhaiya mere liye hain, Rohan bhi mera chota bhai hi hai, lekin... (Running his hand through his hair, and thought for a moment... and then desparately saying) Achha kya hum chaaro log Rampur chal sakte hain, bhaiya-bhabhi ke paas... main ek baar unse aaraam se aamne-saamne baat karna chaahta hoon... Unse aur bhabhi se milna chahta hoon... Ho sakta hai, wo maan jaayein...

This time it was his mother who spoke up...

Anu: Ranga, yes! You are right... We can go and meet them once in a while... But, not now...

And moreover, hum chaaro ka saath-saath abhi-abhi mei jaana, would be very obvious to both Rohan and Mallika that we are going to meet Ashu and Nidhi, and agar unn dono ko pata chal gaya toh, Ashus decision would be unfruitful...

Ranga nods in understanding... Yet, the frown on his face and the creases on his forehead were not gone... The pain and desperation on his face was clear that, he was terribly upset over his bhaiya-bhabhis exit from the house... But he could do nothing... His mother understandingly puts a hand on his shoulder...

A: I understand Ranga, how you must be feeling... just control your emotions infront of Rohan and Mallika... Once you are away from them, have a talk with Ashutosh... He has taken his cell phone with him... But, never let anybody guess, where they are... ok?

Again giving a satisfied nod, Ranga leaves the place, to have a look over Anji, while the elder Mathur couple engaged themselves in the routine...

Rohan and Mallika were returning from the work Mallika has asked Rohan to accompany in the morning... Right from that moment on, he had been distant and aloof with Mallika, replying in monosyllables, only when required... She tried including him in a conversation, but, nothing could help him... Finally, in the car, she tried to have an access to his mood...

M: Kya baat hai Rohan, tum itne chup-chaap kyu ho subah se? Naraaz ho mujhse?

(Rohan just nooded a no...)

Ok! Toh kal ki baat se ab tak upset ho... Jaane do Rohan... maine uss baat ko bhula diya, main Ashutosh ye Nidhi se naraaz nahi hoon... Ive forgiven them... (Fully expecting him to smile... But, was disappointed when he gave none of the reactions) Kya baat hai Rohan? (Then suddenly remembering) Oh! Aaj main breakfast table par nahin aayi, isliye upset ho? (Again no reaction... Just kept driving the car) Rohan, tumko kisi ne kuch kaha? Arre haan... I thought, I heard Anu Aunty scolding you... Was she? (This time he nodded a yes) Par kyu? Wo kal ki baat par, Ashutosh ka saath de rahi hain, aur mera nahi? Tum isliye upset ho na? Mere liye?

This time Rohan was full of exaspertation, filled full of hurt and disgust, and that was apparent, when he hit the brake so hard that the car went on a screeching halt, and Mallika, was thrown towards the windscreen due to inertia, but saved from hitting herself due to the seat belt... She looked shocked at Rohan... Before she could even utter- Whats wrong with you Rohans till now shutted mouth blasted on her...

Ro: Mujhse... Mera... Main... Maine... har waqt aapki gaadi khud par atki rehti hai Mallika ji??? Kabhi aapne ye sochke dekha ke kisi aur ko kya feel ho raha hoga..? apni is self-centred duniya se zara nikalke baahar aaeeye, aur ye mehsoos karke dekhiye, ke kisi aur ke paas, aapke alaawa, aur bhi kayi pareshaaniyaan hain... (Mallika had never expected this so called, Spineless guy, talk to her in this tone... And thus was actually shocked... But, thought to keep her mouth shut, to let him speak, what the matter is that makes him so angry...) Aapko kya lagta hai, Maa mujhse kyu naraaz hain? Maa kya, saari family hi naraaz hai...?

M(Trying as polite as she could): Kyu Rohan...

R: Kyuki Ashu Bhaiya aur Nidhi bhabhi, humesha-humesha ke liye, ye ghar chod ke chale gaye... Sirf aapki aur meri wajah se... YOU GET THAT!!!

Now Mallika was in shock for this moment... Her entire plan seemed to flop down... What is she going to do, if Ashu is not going to be here... No-no-no...!!! I cant live with this idiot Rohan all my life and spoil it... I have to have a talk with Rohans parents and cajole them to bring Ashutosh back... Let that Nidhi come too, will see later what has to be done with her...But, first Ashutosh... Ashutosh, I love you a lot, n will beg-borrow steal, whatever I can do, to get you back... Thought Mallika to herself... Giving a consederate smile to Rohan said- Dont worry Rohan... Main Uncle- Aunty se baat karungi... Dekhna, wo meri baat kaise maan jaayenge, and then, hum sab milke unhe dhoondhenge... Theek hai?

Rohan gave a sad, but a satisfied smile to her, and started the car again...

Meanwhile, Ranga, after freshening up and reaching the hospital, went in his cabin, with the instruction to the peon outside, not to disturb him for sometime... Reaching in, he immediately took out his cellphone and dialled to Ashutosh... There Ashutosh, who was just on his way to go on his rounds saw Rangas call... Knowing, this conversation cannot be done in the open, he went back to sit in his cabin and received the call...

A: Hi Ranga... kaisa chal raha tumhara Honeymoon?

R: Bhaiya, hum wapas aa gaye... Anji seemed to be having some severe indigestion...

A: Oh! N how is she now?

R: Woh theek hai Bhaiya... Vomits and stomach ache have reduced, but, weakness still pertaining... ( A moment of silence... Neither knows how to start the actual conversation... But, then Ranga continues) Bhaiyaa... Aap, mere absence mein hi chale gaye...

A: I knew it Ranga, baat yahin par aayegi... Dekho mujhe haal-filhaal kisi ki koi baat nahi sunni hai... Maa-Baba ne tumhe saari baatein bataayi hi hongi...

R: Ji bhaiya, bataya Maa-baba ne... Khair... Abhi aap iss bare mein baat nahi karna chahte, theek hai, main iss baat par iss waqt koi zor dunga bhi nahi... Par kya aap humse milege bhi nahin?

A:Nahin-nahin Ranga, milunga kyu nahi... Tum sab ka jab mann chaahe, aa jana yahan, bas Rohan aur Mallika ko pata na chale...

R: Ji bhaiya, hum sab aayenge, lekin kuch waqt ke baad... Warna kahin Rohan-Mallika ko shak na ho jaaye...

A: Theek hai Rohan... Jaisa aap sab theek samjhein... Anji ka khayaal rakhna haan...

R: Bhaiya...

A: Haan Ranga...

R: Bhabhi... Bhabhi kaisi hain... mujhe unki bohot yaad bhi aa rahi hai aur fikar bhi ho rahi hai...

A: (Smiling on phone) Ranga, tumhari bhabhi bilkul theek hain... khush hai abhi tak toh... haalaki, logon ke beech ghire rehne ki usko aadat hai, isliye zara dukhi-dukhi si bhi lag rahi hai... isliye sirf shaukh ke liye, apni maternity leave tak, hospital join kiya hai... And moreover, tumhari bhabhi akeli thodi na hai, main hoon na uske saath... Apni taraf se poora khayal rakhne ki koshish karunga...ok?

Rangas upset mood lifted by notches, hearing his brother and that theyve settled well... Biding byes to each other, both Ashutosh and Ranga went along their respective works...

Anji had stayed back, as she wasnt well, and so was at home... Her mother-in-law also stayed back for the day, so as to look back at Anji... Anji, after some rest, when felt better, came out, when she was handed over a glass of juice, when her M-I-L came and sat with her, with her coffee mug... Both went discussing the HM that Ranji went to, when Mallika emerged from her room... She came and stood near Anu Mathur, and then bowing her head low-

M: Kya main bhi yahan aapke saath baith sakti hoon Aunty?

Anu (Hesitating at first, then seemingly ok): Haan... Baitho Mallika...

M: Ji... wo... Mujhe... Rohan ne bataya... Ashutosh ke jaane ke bare mein...

Anu: Tumko unki fikar karne zarurat nahi hai Mallika...

M: Ji... wo toh theek hai... Lekin... wo gaye kahan hain...

Anu: Huh! Humko pata hota, ke humare bete-bahu kahan hai, toh le nahi aate hum unhe ghar wapas...

M: Par aapne, Ashutosh ko jaane se roka kyu nahin Aunty?

Anu (Started her infamous acting skills): Kya faayda usey rokne ka bhi, jab usne humein bataana bhi zaruri nahi samjha... Bas ye khatt... Ye letter... (She pulled out a piece of paper from the drawers, that she had secretly typed and printed out and kept almost at all her convenient places, so that, she can start her drama anywhere) Ye printed note chodke gaya tha mere liye... Main aur inke baba kahin bahar gaye they, jab usne ye khat likha tha...

Dear Maa and Baba,

Main bohot-bohot maafi chahta hoon, aap dono se,

kyuki main aap dono ko bataye bina,

ye ghar chodke jaa raha hoon...

Rohan ko mera bohot pyaar kahiyega,

Aur kehna, ki meri dua hai,

Wo Mallika ke sath humesha khush rahe...

Mallika uski zindagi mein yuhin rang bharti rahe...

Abse main inn dono ke raaste ka rodha nahi banunga...

Bhagwaan unn dono par apna aashirwad banaaye rakhein...

Maa-baba, main uski shaadi mei na bhi rahu,

Par in dono ki shaadi zaroor karwa dijiyega...

Maafi chaahta hoon, par humara lautna shaayad sambhav na ho,

Hum Lucknow aur U.P. chodke jaa rahe hain...

Visa ke liye apply kar denge... Jaise hi Visa milta hai,

Main aur Nidhi London ko nikal jaayenge... Mujhe wahan ke Medical school mei padhane ka mauka mila hai...

Rohan aur Anji ko bhi mera bohot pyaar...

Maa-baba, bohot kuch nahi, bas apne saath aapki bahu ko le jaa raha hoon...

Aapka Ashutosh...

Anu started faking tears reading the letter aloud... Mallika took the letter and confirmed reading it herself... Rohan too, hearing this came and started reading with Mallika... Anji was having a hard time controlling her laugh, or else, shell spoil all the drama created by her mother in law... She got up to stand elsewhere, when she spots Ranga and Baba near the hall way looking at the scene animatedly... Anji stood beside them...

BB: (Murmuring to his children) Kit...nee... Kitni overacting kar rahi hai Anu... Kitna kaha tha, dont go overboard, par nahi... (To this Anji silently giggled, stuffing the corner of her dupatta, so that her giggles are not audible the receptors of this Drama...

Ranga: Ye Family maa, aaj Filmy maa Kaise ban gayi... Maa turing from Nirupa Roy to Kirron Kher of Om Shanti Om... Over acting on the floor...

This was turning increasingly funny for Anji and baba, as both hit him mockingly on his shoulder...

Mallika gulped hard, as she gave away the letter... Ashutosh has set the entire stage for her marriage with Rohan... What to do?she thought... In her own tension, she quietly went into her room, while Rohan turned up to his... While rest of the family were having a gala time, giggling secretly together...

SOME 1.5 MONTHS LATER:

Nidhi came out of the Ultra sound room with Dr. Vidya and Dr. Ashutosh...

Dr. Vidya: I see Nidhi, you and the baby are doing absolutely fine... So, you are in your 26^th week Nidhi... So, how are you enjoying your pregnancy?

Nidhi: Thank you Dr. Vidya... Im certainly enjoying the pregnancy, with Dr. Ashutosh by my side... But, dont know why, this headache is a lot these days, apart from back ache and swelling feet...

V: Nidhi, its absolutely normal to have all these symptoms at this stage... I dont need to tell you all this... You yourself are a Doctor...

And now, because, it has started to rain good here, its pretty cool, take some warm baths, youll feel excellent... But make sure, the water is not too hot ok? (Nidhi nods... and then Ashus cell start ringing, so he excused himself for the moment)And now start doing some Yoga Nidhi, I personally feel, antenatal yoga does wonders... Specially from this time in the gestation period... Go for a walk regularly... And ek aur baat bataoon? (On Nidhis curious eyes) spend sometime with the baby, staying still, youll feel wonderful, feeling the baby move more prominently now a days...

Nidhi nodded smilingly... She indeed felt the baby more these days... It always makes her give the beautiful feel of becoming a mother very soon...

Nidhi came out of Dr. Vidyas cabin, meanwhile Ashutosh finished the call too...

Finishing the day, both went back to their cottage... Ashutosh as usual giving her foot and back some massage, went back to sleep too, with Nidhi lying on her sides...

The next morning, when Nidhi got up, it was quite very early, than her routine could start... But she felt quite fresh, n so came out of the bed... Stretching her arms a bit, she remembered Dr. Vidyas words and decided to go for a walk...

Lazy Sunday mornings never affected these small town people... Thought Nidhi, as she walked up the silent streets out of the Kotnis Campus to a little crowded lot of areas to some fresh green areas, that seem to give her a lot of solace... And in her own thoughts, while walking, whom does she see? Whoa... Dr. Vidya? Aap? Yahan? asked a surprise Nidhi, Mentally collecting the famous idiom- Think of a devil, and the Devil is present... Naah-Naah!!! Not a devil, shes such a sweetipie... till then, the Doc on stroll turned to look at her smilingly...

V: Good Morning Dr. Nidhi...

N: Good morning Dr. Vidya... Aap yahan? Aaj aapke husband saath nahi aaye walk ke liye?

V: No, he wanted to sleep with the kids for a change... So thought, lets walk alone today, But, thank God for small mercies... You have come here... I hope, you have no problem walking with me...

N: Oh! I should be the one saying that Dr. Vidya...

After about a walk past the greenery, Both were talking of the yoga, that Nidhi should do, while walking back home... Nidhi saw, Ashutosh in his lowers and t-shirt standing outside the cottage gate, looking around in confusion... As soon as he spotted her coming, while Dr. Vidya turned to her home, he came and held Nidhi by her shoulders...

A: Kahan chali gayi thi tum? Pata hai, mujhe kitni fikar lag gayi thi...?

N: Relax Ashuji ... I got up early, and was feeling fresh, so thought, to have a walk... Thats it...

A: Arre toh mujhe bhi utha diya hota... Main bhi chalta tumhare saath... Akele kyu walk karne gayi...

N: Nahi koi problem nahi thi... Dr. Vidya mil gayi thi mujhe... she accompanied me today...

Both Ashni went in to spend the day with each other... It was at evening, when Nidhi was resting, when Ashu thought to visit the local market, to have a look... When he returned home, what he saw was totally mesmerising... Nidhi was in the backyard, playing with the waterdroplets, that were falling down the roof, unintentionally half wetting herself... Keeping the umbrella aside, he entered in the hall, towards the backyard... holding Nidhi by her shouders, from the back, he nuzzled into her neck...

A: Enjoying Baarish?

N( Stopped playing with the drops, yet, hands outside, letting the droplets fall): Hmmm... Aap kab aaye?

A: Bas abhi... Nidhi, mujhe lagta hai, jahan tak sirf raindrops ko feel karna tha, its ok! But, you are practically wet... Mere khayaal se, ab bohot ho gaya tumhara pani se khelna... Andar chalein?

N: Arre rukiye na... Kitna mazaa aa raha hai Ashuji...

A: No Nidhi... Youll fall sick... Health ke saath no chance... ok?

N( with a fallen face): Achha theek hai...

A: (Cupping her chin, to dissolve her pout) : Kapde change kar lo... Phir khana khate hain... Ive brought for you...

Both when entered the room, Ashu was leading her to her cupboard to take her clothes...

N: Nahi... Mujhe pehle nahaana hai... I dont feel easy, it makes me itchy with the rain drops...

A: Achha theek hai... Geyser on kar doon? Tab tak, you can take your bath robe and towel?

On her nod, Ashu went into the bathroom, And Nidhi to pick her robe and Towel... When Ashutosh came out, and Nidhi was about to get in, when she looked back with him, with a puppy face...

A: Kya hua Nidhi? Kuch chahiye kya?

N: Ji... Wo, kya aap, ek chair rakh sakte hain yahan... I want to sit on it and bath...

A: Sure-sure... Laata hoon abhi...

And Ashutosh went out and got on Fibre chair, that would not be affected with water... And after ensuring, Nidhi has everything to her comfort, gets out of the bathroom, closing the door behind... After about 10-15 minutes, the sound of the water stopped coming, so assuming her to come out soon, he went to the kitchen to start heating the food... Coming back after 15 minutes, he finds, Nidhi wasnt in the room yet... Again he went to the kitchen... Putting all the food in the tray, he brings it to the room... Then again, went out to bring water along... This time again, when he came, he did not find Nidhi in the room... He looked up at the clock, it has almost been 40 minutes, since she went into the bathroom... She never takes more than 20 minutes, even if she wanted to bath at leisure...

A: Kar kya rahi hai ye bathroom mein?

He softly calls her name at the closed door of the bathroom... No response... Again a call... Again no response... He gave a soft knock... No response again... Ashutosh was getting worried now... Is she ok? Was the only thought, that came into his mind, and, unwantedly turned the knob of the door open... What he sees is, Nidhi sitting comfortably on the chair in her bath robe... A towel covering her wet hair... Yet a few drops escaping her forehead... Her eyes closed, a small smile plastered on her sweet lips, feet immerced in a water tub... Probably warm water... And hand on her bulging tummy... Ashutosh couldnt resist but say, a little aloud, to break her sweet daze...

A: Feet zyada dark de rahe hain Nidhi?

A frown and a stunned reaction came all over Nidhis face... Maybe, she was very rudely brought out of her thoughts... And a second later, that stunned look changed into an annoyed look, and she brought her index finger to her lips...

N: Shhh... Kya kar rahe hain aap? Itni zor se bolte hain? Daraa diya aapne mere baby ko? (And tears welled up in her eyes)

Ashutosh went all clueless, when did he do such a thing, that scared their baby... He had asked a very concerning question, and in a soft tone, as far as he could suppose... But, seeing those tears, he was all so worried... Aah! Mood swings again he thought... Immidiately, he went on his hunches near her...

A: Im so sorry baby... I scared you and the baby... So sorry...

N(Almost on the verge to cry): The baby responds back well, when the mother does not move much... I thought to relax my feet in warm water, and thus, sat here... And as I was relaxing, The baby started moving so beautifully... You know Ashuji, it feels so good...

A: Oh! Im so-so sorry Again Nidhi... I disturbed you... But baby, you are wet from an hour now... Its not good na... I just thought of your health and...

N: Its ok! Main ye paani dispose karke aati hoon... Aap chaliye...

She moved to get up from the chair, when Ashu stopped her...

A: Koi zarurat nahi hai, ye sab karne ki... Ill take care... Tum jaake change karo... Ill clean it all...

Nodding, Nidhi went out, to change, while was Ashu cleaning in all... About few minutes later, nidhi called from the room...

A: Nahin... Tum baitho main dekhta hoon... (On opening the door) Arre Maa, Baba, Anji ,Ranga... Aao-aao...
