I am constantly being judged: Priyanka Chopra
Being an actor comes with many perks, but not without harsh scrutiny either. Priyanka Chopra admits it's not easy to be under the scanner all the time.
"As artists, we are putting ourselves out there to be scrutinised — be it my acting or my music. But being judged all the time is hard. And, thanks to the internet, we are scrutinised even more often now. So, it's hard. At the end of the day, we are also human beings with emotions. So, it does affect me," confesses the 31-year-old.
However, instead of dwelling on the downside of fame, the actor-singer chooses to keep busy with other things, such as her upcoming film on boxing champ Mary Kom, most recently. "Mary is so girly. That's what is so fascinating about her. She is a boxer, a fighter, very strong but also very feminine. She is an inspiration," she shares. Any apprehensions about living up to that role? "Yeah, the film is highly anticipated and that makes me nervous," admits Priyanka.
Her other film, the Zanjeer (1973) reboot, marks the third remake of veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan's film that Priyanka has worked in. The first film was Don (2006) and the second was Agneepath (2012). Talking about the connection, PeeCee says, "See, I can't play Mr Bachchan's role, so this is the closest I can get to him. I am his remake heroine!"
It's not just acting that's keeping Priyanka occupied. Now that her second single, Exotic, is hot on the music charts, Priyanka the singer is definitely here to stay.
"Music is my new big challenge. It'll take me time to be the musician that I want to be at some point in time. But, it's great to get such a good response to my songs. The huge support I've been getting makes me feel empowered," says PeeCee, who admits to being her own person. "I have always taken risks. When I decided to do Fashion (2008), everyone told me heroine-centric films don't work and that I should do such films after retirement. But I didn't listen. I like taking challenges, doing new things."
