Amitabh Bachchan surrounded by media persons

It's not surprising that the Big B needs half a dozen bodyguards around him. Recently, I hosted a dinner with DTC to launch the Forever Mark diamond and the second issue of our magazine, Haute.

There was a spectacular laser show on, with a dance performance, when the 'superstar' walked in. The media went into a complete frenzy. So much so that they crowded in front of the stage, blocking the guests' view completely. Of course, the question that arose in my mind was whether the guests preferred to watch Mr Bachchan or the show? I shudder to think, what the plight of this star would be, without his security guards. With him a lot in the news these days, I have not seen this kind of media attention that seems to have rising to unprecedented levels.

This forever Indian as he was 'knighted' undoubtedly, still reigns supreme! Conventionally good-looking men have not been the usual phenomenon in our film industry, barring a few exceptions like Shashi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna and more recently, Hrithik and John Abraham. However last night, the winners of society achievers awards were both good-looking and talented. Shiney Ahuja, Rohit Roy and Upen Patel made a group of striking handsome achievers. A nice change from the women who always overshadow the men in the looks department. The younger crop seems to be getting better and better.

The three movies, I saw in the last 10 days were Guru, Salaam-E-Ishq and Blood Diamond. Abhishek was brilliant. That, definitely dissolved most doubts that people had about his acting prowess, after seeing Dhoom 2. I truly enjoyed the first half of Salaam-E-Ishq, although the second half was a tad too long and predictable. John looked great, Salman seemed to have lost a few kilos and thus looked younger. I enjoyed his performance the most.

Blood Diamond was brilliant, with Leonardo DiCaprio playing his role to perfection. The 'conflict Diamond theory', created 'conflict' in my mind, as I enjoy wearing and designing jewellery. One has known diamonds to be a 'girl's best friend', and I would hate that myth to be shattered. I did wonder, to what extent this theory was true.
