"Acting happened quite unexpectedly" - Divyanka Tripathi |
Divyanka Tripathi, from smalltown Bhopal, is the latest serial Dulhann..
How did Banoo Main Teri Dulhann happen to you?
For me, acting happened quite unexpectedly. I wanted to be an Army officer, but then out of the blue, acting and modelling happened. Three years ago, I took part in the Miss Bhopal contest and won it. Then I filled the form for Zee's Teen Queen Contest and here also I won the title of 'Ms Beautiful Skin'. It was from somewhere that the producers of the show came to know that I exist and gave me a call. I gave them my pictures, they liked them and I was on!
So it's been quite an interesting journey.
Oh, yes. I have been a very adventurous sort of person. I have done courses in mountaineering, rafting and I am also a gold medallist in rifle shooting.
I have taken part in the Republic day NCC camp, too, therefore, I had plans of joining the Army. But then it's all fate; today I am here, acting.
Tell us about your role in Dulhann.
It's the story of a very simple girl, Vidya, who is from the small town of Varanasi. She is a very positive person, but call it luck or whatever; she is always in some kind of trouble. She is basically the 'underdog' who has to handle all the problems in the family. Following a disastrous marriage, she migrates from Varanasi to Delhi and the story shows the kind of trials and tribulations she faces thereafter.
As the title suggests, will a grand marriage be shown with you as a bride?
Oh, no. For Vidya, it's an unexpected wedding. She is one girl who doesn't think about her marriage. But it happens and then she has to face rejection from her husband and in-laws. She is shown to be very close to her mum. She is a nice girl and amid all the bad things that happen to her, she tries to look at things positively.
Tell us about your look in the show.
Vidya is a very simple girl. So in the show, my hair is loosely done and my makeup has been kept to natural.
And co-artistes in the show?
Sharad Malhotra, who is seen in Kabhie To Nazar Milao on Sony, is cast opposite me. Then there are artistes like Sucheta who plays my mum, Surender Kaur who plays my mother-in-law, Rajendra Gupta, Kamya Punjabi, Aditi and Himanshi.
And how much do you enjoy their company?
You know, when I used to read interviews, I felt people and their great rapport on the sets was all made up stuff. But it's not so anymore. I have become close to all my unit members and we are actually like a family. It's indeed home away from home. Initially, I was wondering how the producers would be. But it's great working with Neelima [Bajpai].
Since you are new in Mumbai and staying alone, do you feel lonely?
Actually, I don't feel lonely even though I am alone here. As I spend most of my time on the sets and it's a nice atmosphere out there. It's just like five-six hours at home and then I end up sleeping.
Your future plans? What are the kinds of offers you will take up later?
I hardly plan anything. For me things just happen. It's been a complete unplanned life for me. I have just picked up whatever came my way.
But do you want to be in films at some time?
Yes. I would like to experiment. I am open to doing films, but I won't go for the exposure bit. I would love to do traditional roles.
