Abhijeet is NOT homeless!

For someone who bagged a one crore recording contract with Sony Music and gets paid Rs. 2 lakh by the music company for every show he does, it certainly is hard to imagine Indian Idol winner Abhijeet Sawant 'homeless'. Officials from the music company are miffed at recent media reports saying that Sawant will soon be without a home. "That is not true at all. His parents live at Mahim, but he has been living at another house in Vile Parle. To say that he will soon be rendered homeless, is a bit of a joke," said an official from Sony Music. The Sawants stay at Sahu Nagar in Mahim, a colony of traditional middle-class Maharashtrians. They have been staying at this address for over a decade now, and from the looks of it, yes, the building is in a
dilapidated condition.The singer himself seemed surprised by the number of calls he was
getting following the published report. "It's not such a bad situation as they make it out to be. In fact, it is not even an issue in the first place. The house that I have been brought up in at Mahim needs urgent repairs. And the municipal corporation has asked us to move out until repairs on our building are done," he said. "Yes, it is true I grew up in this building and all the residents supported me at the time of the Indian Idol contest. Of course, like many of the residents, I am sentimental about the address. After winning the contest I have been living with my uncle at Kandivili as well as with my parents at this address," he added.Sawant admitted that he has been looking to buy a house 'somewhere between Andheri and Santa Cruz' but has not found the perfect place. "I am anything but homeless. But I suppose with this new development, it is a good time to starting looking again for a new house," he laughed.
