Trying to cross Krrish?

The Bachchans are pumping big money into Abhishek's superhero flick Drona, although they aren't the official producers. Is it an answer to Hrithik Roshan's Krrish?

If sources are to be believed, Big B is investing a whopping amount in beta Abhishek's forthcoming film Drona. After Abhishek delivered a good performance in Mani Ratnam's Guru, Amitabh Bachchan obviously wants to keep no stones unturned in establishing his son as the next big superhero in Bollywood.

Apart from mobilising finances, Sr. Bachchan has been taking a keen interest in the look of the film, not to mention the dexterously executed special effects. The content of the film may have been kept under wraps but those in the know reveal that it's an out-and-out superhero flick and all efforts are being made to outdo Hrithik Roshan's Krrish. A source close to the Bachchans says, "Drona is their answer to Krrish. The budget of Krrish was approximately Rs 45 crore and Drona will be somewhere close to rs 60 crore. The Bachchans along with director Goldie Behl are making all efforts to overshadow Krrish's superpowers."

When contacted producer Shrishti Arya said she did not want to comment on the issue.

Not long ago, the Bachchans weren't overly pleased with the buzz doing the rounds that Hrithik's portrayal in the film was far better than Abhishek's. Taking a leaf from that experience the Bachchans are now going all out in their pet project Drona. A unit memeber informs, "The clash is evident. It's all about 'Who is a better superhero?' Let me tell you, Krrish has a tough contender in Drona. The first schedule of the film was shot in Prague and we had the full liberty of shooting at any place we wanted. Needless to say there have been no limitations as far as the budget is concerned. In fact, one can easily say that the Bachchans are making the film. Director Goldie and producer Shrishti are family friends of the Bachchans, and they're working closely as a team. If Krrish had an aggressive marketing strategy, Drona will have a better one."

The film will see Jaya Bachchan and Abhishek teaming up as a mother-son duo. The look of the characters is being closely guarded from the media glare. Stringent security measures have been taken on the sets of the film erected in Kuchaman City, a former fort of the Rajputs on a rock cliff in Nagaur. We hear that Abhishek has been practising pulsating stunts for the film. He dons a European look in the film with long locks et al. All those months when Abhishek was moving around town sporting a hair band was just an attempt to grow his mane. When quizzed about the Drona look, stylist Anaita Shroff (she has previously styled the cast members of Dhoom 2) refused to divulge too many details. She says, "I have not drawn any inspiration from any superhero for that matter. It's an original vision that I had for Abhishek and Priyanka in the film. All that I can say is that Goldie's treatment of the film is completely novel and we've given the actors the best possible look. My contract doesn't allow to give out any more information."

IMO,The media is trying to Pitt Abhishek and Hrithik against each other😕....Apparently if earlier articles are to be believed, Drona is the story of a super geek,who gets jois hands on sone gadget than transfers some powers to him a la Mr.India.....Anaida is Dhoom 2's stylist,so hopefully She gives Abhishek a good look...

Here's something more about the film

Abhishek Bachchan and his family are elated with his forthcoming nuptials to Aishwarya Rai and also with his first super hit performance in the film Guru. Amitabh too is extremely proud of his son and according to sources is now taking a keen interest in his son's career. The Bachchans want Abhishek to be in the top league of actors and according to sources they are now making all efforts to promote Abhishek and his forthcoming films. Abhi is currently shooting for Goldie Behl's film Drona and he supposedly plays a kind of superhero in the film. Sources claim that Amitabh is going all out to ensure that his son out beats Hrithik as a superhero and gets into the top league of actors.

Drona is being directed by Goldie Behl and produced by Shrishti who are close family friends of the Bachchans. Sources claim that Amitabh is also financing a major portion of the film which is estimated to have a budget of around Rs. 60 crores. Recently in Dhoom 2, Hrithik's performance was termed as better than Abhishek's and he has also been appreciated as India's first superhero. Recently Abhi was also upset with Hrithik due to the entire Ash-Hrithik smooch in Dhoom 2. However now the Bachchans want to ensure that Abhi overtakes Hrithik as a superhero. Drona will have a lot of hi-fi special effects and the entire look of the film will be top class. Sources claim "Drona is their answer to Krrish and hence the Bachchans along with director Goldie Behl are making all efforts to overshadow Krrish's superpowers."

The Bachchans have planned to go all out in their marketing of Drona and have taken the first step by shooting part of the film in Prague and the rest in Rajasthan. However the concept, look of the characters and story of the film is being kept a secret and will be a surprise. The film also has real life mother-son duo Abhishek and Jaya Bachchan working together for the first time. Abhishek will be doing plenty of daring stunts in the film and he will have a unique European look with long hair etc. The film also stars Priyanka Chopra who will also have a different look. So will Abhishek's superhero manage to beat Hrithik's superhero? The entire Bachchan family wants Abhishek to emerge as the number one superhero, so let's wait and see if Drona manages to give Abhi a new image.

New Delhi: After Ashutosh Gowarikar came under attack from animal rights group for torturing animals during the shooting of Jodha Akbar, it is now the turn of director Goldie Behl.

Two NGOs are protesting after a horse died during the shoot of Behl's film Drona on Thursday.

People for Animal and Society of Prevention to Cruelty to Animals claim the body of the horse was buried without a postmortem.

The film, which stars Abhishek Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra, was being shot in Kolayath in Bikaner when the incident happened.

Drona will be the first Hindi film to feature Abhishek alongside his mother Jaya Bachchan on-screen.

The mother and son came to Rajasthan to shoot for the film immediately after Abhishek's engagement to Aishwarya Rai on January 14.

Shiney Ahuja Walks Out of Drona

Shiney Ahuja has walked out of Goldie Behl's film Drona which is also to star Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra. His role will now be played by Kay Kay Menon. Shiney says that he has quit the film because he was offered a negative role and doesn't want to play a negative character.

However, according to sources, the real reason for Shiney's refusal was the fear that he might be overshadowed in the film. Shiney learnt that Abhishek and Goldie were friends and therefore there are chances of Abhishek stealing all the focus and Shiney ending up as his sidekick. Shiney however, laughs it off and says that he had refused soon enough so that a new actor could be roped in.

Drona will be Goldie Behl's second directorial venture. His first film Bas Itna Sa Khwaab also starred Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee but bombed badly at the Box Office.

if this is true then the bachchans seriously need to get a life......god, has abhi ever seen himself in the mirror! From which angle does he look fit to play a superhero. Ok I knw I'm sounding rude but it's very frustrating when a superb actor like Abhi is not doing roles tht suit him and getting himself unnecessary criticism.

And its even more frustrating if such stupidity is being portrayed after abhi has clearly proved himself post guru......why sabotage everything with something thts bound to fail!

I dont see anything wrong with Bachchans taking a keen interest in Abhishek's career.They shouldnt make it too obvious,that's all!

Drona seems to be a pretty cool film...Perhaps Drona is something on those lines..As of now,NO ONE knows what Drona is truly all about,these are just media speculation,and can end up being baseless rumours too... PC and AB Jr have been calling Drona a "fantasy film"..No where have they said its a superhero film...Fantasy films could be like Mr.India,and if that's the case,Drona might shape up into a beautiful film.....😃

And the irony being,Hrithik too looked pretty girly all throughout Krrish,he didnt look anything close to what he looked in Dhoom 2...Krrish worked because of the concept and special effects,not because of Hrithik's looks!!..If Drona can be high on special effects et al,it too would work,even if Abhishek doesnt look like a Greek god😊..In the other fantasy film Mr.India,Anil Kapoor wasnt a hunk,yet it remains to be one of the best films ever made!!

Besides,I'm happy that Abhishek is experimenting,and not just sticking to the intense roles,which is his forte!

Whatever Abhi can never even come close to Hrithik, Hrithik has already stolen the title for being India's first and Number 1 superhero, Abhi can never be compared to Hrithik as Hrithik Surpases him in acting, looks and even dancing, Abhi toh theek se kamar bhi nahi hila sakta 😆 , What he did in bluffmaster and Dus is not dancing 😆

The Bachchans seem to be out to get everybody, pehla bechara SRK who still hasn't said a word against them, and now Hrithik who probably doesn't even give 2 hoots for what the Bachchans do!

Krrish was a better name..what will the kids call Abhi.."dekho dekho drona aa gaya"😆

I agree with you. it was not hrithik who was desperate to kiss their would-be-daughter-in-law.it was needed by the script and he did it. y all of sudden they started hating him just bcoz of dhoom2. i thnk hrithik and abhi are friends they should always remain freinds as i like both hrithik and abhi.
