"Armaan"

Tomorrow was Friday and I was still unable to find a Cameraman who could cover the auditions. So, I did what I knew best and contacted the NDC committee and asked them for suggestions.

"Armaan Malik...hmm...he seems to have reasonable rates." I say while going through the email that the committee had sent me.

I dial his number and talk to his secretary. She informs me that he will be able to visit the college around 4 p.m tomorrow. I agree to the arrangement as college would have just ended and there would be less students.

"Teetli!" I turn around to see my elder sister looking at me straight in the eye and staring seriously.

"Hmmm...yeah?"

"How can you be my sister!?" She asks in an exaggerated tone.

"Errmm...because mom and dad had sex without protection once again after you were born?"

"Hai Krishnaji! Teetli chup kar, kuch toh sharam kar!" My mom said while standing in the hall. She seemed embarrassed at what I had just said and a bit angry too.

"Sorry Ma." I say a bit guilty for letting that pop out in front of my mother.

"Maa relax...we all are grown up and have had the sex talk many times," Sne said and my mom just looked defeated and walked out, "anyway...missy...you!" She pointed at me and came closer.

"You...Kiki told me you haven't had a date in two years?! Two years? Tell me I'm wrong...please?"

"Errm...actually I haven't."

She gasped, "Oh...no no no...Sneha Gujral's younger sister has not hit it off with a guy in TWO BLOODY YEARS! This is so bad!" I swear she acts like a high school student more than a professional dancer.

"We are going out...Shaan is giving a party and I want you to come with me. Hopefully I can set you up with a guy. Oh, and by the way he has some cousin he wants me to meet...so dress properly. My sister should look up to the standards."

"You say it like I'm some hobo that lives on the streets! Sheeesh..Sne...I know that my future Jiju loves me just as much no matter what I look like."

"Of course he does...that idiot sees you like his younger sister." I beam a smile thinking of my Jiju.

Shaan had been a sweetheart, every time he was with me he would behave like an older brother. He pampers me a lot and why not? I was his youngest "saali" sister-in-law after all.

"When is the party?" I ask.

"At 8...so chop chop. Get ready." She leaves the room and walks away.

Ugh...getting ready. That was the worst thing ever. I was a casual laid back girl who really didn't give much of a damn about following the latest trends and such. But, I did have decent clothes which didn't reveal much. My clothes were sweet and simple; usually I'd wear jeans and a graphic t-shirt with nice flats. Parties though were annoying. The short skimpy dresses were not my thing. I found them uncomfortable and revealing while Sne practically lived on those.

I sighed and rummaged through my closet for something comfortable. I spotted a tube flowing summer dress that went to my knees and paired it with a shrug to cover up my bare shoulders. I put on some flats, combed my hair and added some lip gloss.

There...I was ready.

"Wow...Jiju went all out on this party, huh?" I asked Sne as we walked down to the farmhouse where the party was held. It was as big as a mansion and was fully decorated with lights and lanterns. The place was brightly lit and looked beautiful under the night sky.

As we entered Sne was surrounded by people greeting her and engulfing her into hugs. I just stood there...awkwardly...with a smile on my face of course.

"Don't feel left out Teetli!" Shaan Jiju came and gave me a hug.

"Don't worry...I like being alone. These parties are not my thing anyway." He chuckled at my response and nodded.

"Got to agree, I never liked them either. Par kya karun, jabse teri behn se mila hoon mujhe bhi inn sab partiyon ki lat lagayi hai."

While laughing at that he took my hand, "Chal...I want you to meet my cousin."

He looked out and then called out to a girl with her back to us, "Shippu!"

"Yeah BHAI!"

The girl turned wearing a tight emerald dress and nude high heels.

"Shilpa?"

"Taani?"

"You both know each other?"

Me and Shilpa hug while my Jiju ponders over what was happening.

"Yeah bhai...remember I told you she was the new girl who was helping Rey with NDC," Shilpa said hoping her brother would remember.

"Oh yeah! Well Shippu meet my youngest saali, Taani. And Taani meet my lovely cousin, Shilpa."

"This is amazing!" I yell out in excitement.

This really was great...I mean who would have thought that my classmate kum friend would turn out to be a relative as well. Shilpa has a dear place in my heart, she was filled with positive energy and it always made me want to stay near her.

"I know right! We're related!" She jumps in excitement and I laugh...she was so cute!

"Okay...I'm going to leave you two jumping bunnies alone," Shaan teased us and then went to where Sne was standing.

"So...how's Rey been treating you so far?" Shilpa asked with concern and worry.

"I don't know," I sight heavily, "He expects so much! I mean he needs everything to be perfect! Also, he has major mood swings...one minute he will be happy, funny, and flirty and the next he will be grumpy and angry."

"Yeah...he wasn't like that. He was laid back but," she stops and thinks deeply before blowing off some air, "anyhow, he isn't too bad. At least he is mature unlike the gang."

I giggled. True that. Bharat, Vicky, Amar, and Nil could sometimes get over the top with their dumb ideas and plans. Swayam and Rey were the only sane ones I would say.

She holds my hand tightly, "I forgot...Rey's here! Come let's go see him!"

Rey.

Oh god.

Here I was dressed in the simplest attire looking like plain Jane and I had to go meet Rey.

Shit! Should have dressed better Teetli!

And don't go crazy on me...I know I said I didn't care about my clothes but I am still a girl and I obviously don't want to look bad in front of someone like Rey.

The guy already thinks I'm a walking talking disaster and now I don't want him to think that I have no dressing sense.

"Rey!"

That made snap out of my worrying thoughts and I looked in the direction where Shilpa was calling.

Daaayyyuuummm!

If he was an ice-cream I'd gobble him up. He was wearing light wash jeans with a black shirt that fit him perfectly. He had his Rolex watch and silver chain on. I breathed in and out to calm my jumping heart.

Remember Teetli, he is the devil...the khadoos that yelled at you on the first day and told you to go away. He was the guy that laughed at you each time...

Laugh...he looks so cute when he laughs...those dimples!

Shut the hell up Teetli...behave! Have some self-respect woman!

I shut up and listened to my inner conscience instead of my perverted impulsive mind. Sne was right, I really needed to get a guy. Maybe I just felt that he was hot because I haven't been around much guys lately.

"Shippu...Taani." He greeted me casually while giving a big bear hug to Shilpa.

"Rey you're going to choke me!" He let go of her and she giggled. He proceeded to ruffle her hair and she stuck out her tongue at him.

"Oh Ships...I got someone here you could meet! Taani, excuse us please." I nodded with a smile and he dragged her away.

I felt lonely.

Out of all the people I thought that at least Rey would make a conversation and keep me company but he walked away and even took Shilpa with him. I huffed as I sat down on the bar stool. Was I jealous? I wasn't sure but I surely felt heart broken. Was it wrong of me to expect some kind of attention from Rey? Maybe it was. I didn't know him for long but I can't help it. He is one of those people who you instantly feel you can depend on and in this case I thought that he would help me and keep me company.

For the past few days we had been meeting up a lot after school for NDC and I felt some sort of comfort and understanding beginning to develop between us. Though since two days I knew something surely had happened which involved a girl. Also, I figured out what people meant when they said he had changed.

Flashback

Taani's POV

Two Days Ago

I smiled while searching for the book in the library which Rey had told me to get. We were staying after college to finish up a few things before we made contact with any of the designers. I was laughing at the joke Rey had made and thinking of how someone could be so layered. The first day we met I was pissed at him and he seemed angry and grumpy. But, now he seemed much friendlier.

I grabbed the book and made my way back to the classroom we were planning in. As I was entering I heard one of my favourite songs on and hummed to the tune...soon I began singing.

"Jaane kyun dil jaanta hai..." I sang and entered the room.

Rey stood there and I smiled but he glared at me. His eyes were burning red and his hands were in a fist.

"Shut this thing up...NOW!"

He yelled at me and threw my smart phone at me. I fumbled with it and unlocked it to stop the music from playing.

Of course I just had to do everything that a normal person wouldn't, I was born a rebel. So I shout knowing it would make him angrier.

"What the...what was wrong with the song?!"

"That's none of your damn business!" He yelled back and now he was an inch away from me. His nostrils were flaring in anger and I was shell shocked for a moment. Was this the same guy who had been telling me Santa Banta jokes a few minutes ago?

I stared at him, my heart was beating fast out of fear but I knew this was my fault. I had made him angrier and I had to do something about it.

"Rey," I said calmly placing a hand on his cheeks, "please calm down." My voice was pleading as he continued to stare at me angrily. He looked at me a bit more before letting his eyes fall on the ground while taking a few steps back.

"Sorry." He mumbled then hurriedly got his stuff and walked out of the room.

I stayed there for a few minutes and found his wallet.

Now, I didn't mean to pry but I still couldn't help my curiosity so I opened it. There she was. His wallet contained a picture of him and a beautiful smiling girl hugging each other. They seemed happy and cute together...like good friends.

I wondered who she was because I had never seen before. I didn't find out who the girl was but I did find out that Rey had definitely changed. The picture showed how happy excited and laid back he was. He made jokes with me and teased me but the twinkle in his eyes was missing. That care free attitude wasn't there, and I hoped to find out that reason.

P.S: Rey was perfectly fine and chirpy the next morning...forgetting everything that had happened. And no, I didn't give him the wallet. Just left it there for him to find...I didn't have the guts to give it to him.

Flashback Ends

Present

"Where are you lost beautiful?" A gorgeous green eyed man beside me asked.

"Oh nowhere...urrmm...I'm Taani." I smiled and held out my hand.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Armaan. Armaan Malik." He smiled widely and I asked further.

"Are you by chance a videographer/cameraman?"

He looked at me stunned, "Yeah! How did you know?"

"Oh...well I'm the Tanusha Gujral you are supposed to meet tomorrow."

He gaped, "Seriously!? Wow. Small world huh?" I nodded and he continued, "Well, at least we know each other now. But, no talking work right now...it's time to party. So...what are you waiting for...let's dance!"

Before I could say something he dragged me to the dance floor. Hand in hand we both danced to the remixed mash ups that were playing. Armaan was chilled out, he would wink at girls and flirt openly. However, he was comfortable to be with. He made me do weird dance steps where by the end we both would end up laughing. Guess I have made a new friend...Armaan.

It was finally Friday! I had survived the party with Armaan and enjoyed it, though I was still a bit upset with Rey. Shilpa did return to me when Armaan had left with some girl. Too bad they didn't meet each other.

It was almost 4 p.m. and I was waiting on Rey, Shilpa and Armaan to come. Just on cue I saw Rey and Shilpa making their way in the hallway, hand in hand.

I stared on thinking if they had something together...could it be that the girl I had seen in the wallet was his ex-girlfriend and he was now trying to move on with Shilpa? I felt a pang in my heart as I thought.

Teetli...are you falling for him?

What?! No! No! I am not falling for him...you know I just can't love someone like that, have to make sure of everything before getting into a relationship.

Yeah...but are you sure you aren't having a tinny tiny crush on him?

Am I?

I think I am. Rey looked good so obviously I am attracted to him, I even liked his ass when we first met. Also, he is loved by everyone in the college, he is the perfect gentlemen for a lot of the girls. So yes, his personality was definitely a turn on.

But, his past. I questioned if I knew well enough to fall in love with him and the answer was no. His mood swings and short temper scares me at times, so no it wasn't love. But yes, there was a crush.

"I'm so proud of you for admitting that, Teetli!" I told myself.

I smiled at Rey and Shilpa.

"Taani!"

I turned back to the other side and saw Armaan waving at me.

I smiled at him as well and the three gathered near me.

"Hey Armaan. Rey, this is Armaan the videographer/cameraman." The two shook their hands.

"And Armaan, this is Shilpa. Shilpa, this is Armaan." Armaan extended his hand forward and Shilpa took it after hesitating.

This was awkward. Shilpa seemed shocked to see Armaan while Ammy just continued smiling at her. It looked like she recovered from some sort of a shock. I made a mental note to ask Shilpa about Armaan later on.

"So...let's get started shall we?" I asked and they all nodded. Soon we had gotten down to business and started working. Time past really quickly and soon it was time to go.

"Taani, you want a ride?" Rey asked me as he stood beside his car.

"I...I can manage," I tell him.

"Get in the car," he opened the front door and I shook my head while getting in.

As I got seated I turned on the radio and started humming songs.

"You like music don't you?" He asked while smiling a little.

"Yeah...it's nice. Just like any other art it expresses ones emotions and feelings."

"I have never been a much fan of music...dance was always the thing for me."

"Well no duh...you are St. Louis's best dancer for a reason," he chuckles slightly.

Then he asked me seriously, "Why didn't you give me my wallet? Why did you just leave it there?"

How the hell did he know that?

And almost like he read my mind he replied, "I know because I came back to get it and you were holding it but then you put it back down."

"I...I was...scared." I say the truth.

I really was scared as to how he would react if he knew that I had seen that picture or anything private of his. I was scared that he would yell at me and be disappointed.

"You were scared of me?" He asked me slowly and painfully.

"Kind of...I was scared of how you would react," I whisper the last part for some reason.

"I was mad," I look at him stunned, "I was angry at you for opening my wallet and seeing the picture of me and Kriya but then I sat there thinking that night. And...as I thought I realized it wasn't your fault. You don't know..." His voice had become soft and heavy at the end.

"So let me know Rey...tell me," I said hoping he would open up but he just drove on, "tell me whenever you are ready." I finished knowing he would need time.

When my home arrived I say a thanks and wave him goodbye.

I know that Rey will never tell me anything but at least I knew her name. Kriya.

It was Saturday and I had ended up being at Swayam's house to spend some quality time with the gang. Kiki had dropped me so I was a good two hours early.

"So all the food is ready, just get the pizza out of the oven when we are about eat," I say while plopping down on the couch beside him.

He thanks me and we sit there for some time while watching "Crazy, Stupid, Love".

After some time I turn to him during the commercials and ask, "Swayam, who's Kriya?"
