No excuses - you should have followed the example of Usha-Aniruddha. Have him abducted while he was asleep, and then married him 😆

Um...unfortunately my father didn't have a palace as large as Banasur's so, even if I had kidnapped him, I could not have kept him in my house secretly. 😆

You are welcome to ineterfere, Surya. Maybe you can pick up a few ideas yourself..😉

What did I just see? Ravana coming uninvited to the ceremony, shooting lasers at people, saying I can do this I can do that, and then asking permission from Janaka to lift the bow??? That was compltetly bogus. And what was worse, Janaka said yes. God... what is happening?

Vrish/Varali,
Really hilarious discussion. Thanks for reminding me about Banasur. I couldn't remember how he was slayed by Krishna until you mentioned Aniruddh and Usha. I always wondered if Anirudh was really in love with Usha or he suffered from the stockhold syndrome and hence married her. It is not like he had too much of a choice in refusing Usha.

Anirudha didn't know Usha - it's more like he found himself in a strange princess's palace, and was invited by her to marry her, and given the parampara then, who could say no? 🤣 But no, he wasn't in love w/ her.

Also, Anirudha was married to a granddaughter of Rukmi (that occasion caused the death of Rukmi at Balarama's hands) and his son Vajra, who became the ruler of the Vrishnis after Krishna's death, was from this marriage, not Usha's.

Also, as per some traditions, namely Gujrati, he was married to a human incarnation of Asokasundari.

Vrish thanks for the story. My knowledge of Yadav vansh stops at Aniruddh. Also I know his story from Amar Chitrakatha and it stops at slaying of Banasur. So I always wondered if Aniruddh rejected Usha given that he married her when he had no choice. It makes sense that his son from Rukmi's grand-daughter would be the ruler. She must have been his choice. I have no knowledge of Vajra. I do know that in Gujrati versions, Shiv/Parvati had a daughter.

Given that Krishna & Rukmini were married, I always thought it strange that Rukmini's niece and grand-niece were married to her son & grandson 🤢 When they had perfect wives in Mayavati (Rati-avatar) and Usha.

Back to Ramayan - how would Ravan know that Janaka had a swayamvara if he wasn't invited? And if he was invited, how did he, w/ his fabled Pushpak, not get there on time? Is his Pushpak still not back from repair, after the time Vedavati lifted it and saved him, in return for which he tried to grab her?
