Resting their head on the soil, Sacrificed and slept immortal, For those who martyred on ice, Remember their great sacrifice! The day starts with the Prime Minister of India hoisting the flag at the Red Fort, Delhi. Twenty-one gun shots are fired in the honour of the solemn ocassion. Later, the Prime Minister delivers a speech about the sacrifices Indians made in achieving, what is called - Bharat Mahaan. This ends with the National Anthem - Jana Gana Mana - being sung and the march past.
The celebrations are widespread across India, ranging from the patriots hoisting flags on the rooftops of their houses as well as their vehicles; be it a motorcycle, car or a rickshaw.
Since, it's a national holiday, the public stays home and watches movies, listens to patriotic songs as well as bond with their families.
