Renuka, SRK return together

Renuka Shahane is firm about two things — the roles she did few years ago, and long, never-ending serials are a no — no. After her marriage to actor Ashutosh Rana she planned a one-year break from television but the break lasted for well over five years! She is is all set for a comeback in a daily soap called Jeete Hain Jiske Liye to be aired on Sony next month.

The chirpy actress with a 100-watt smile debuted on TV in the 1990s with Circus which had Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role. Coincidently, while King Khan is returning to TV after 16 years with KBC Renuka too is returning to her familiar territory after a five-year sabbatical. Try telling her that and Renuka has a hearty laugh. "Actually I had not decided to return to acting this year. When Deeya (Singh, the producer of the show) offered me the role I said no. I wanted to stay away from acting for one more year. But Sandiip Sickand convinced me to do the serial and I agreed because the role is excellent. Besides, Tony and Deeya are known for making different kind of serials," she explains.

Jeete Hain Jiske Liye is the story of an orphan girl and the problems she encounters in her life. "The story starts three years after her marriage to a rich man. She becomes a mother but because of a major problem she is sent to jail but returns after 20 years to reconstruct her life all over gain," says Renuka, refusing to elaborate further. "I find it a bit odd for not being allowed to talk about the story and my role beyond a line or two. But that's because of the competition," she says. What she also finds quite odd is the fact that for the first time in her career she has signed a contract.
