26th January 1950 is one of the most important days in Indian history as it was on this day the constitution of India came into force and India became a truly sovereign state. In this day India became a totally republican unit. The country finally realized the dream of Mahatma Gandhi and the numerous freedom fighters who, fought for and sacrificed their lives for the Independence of their country. So, the 26th of January was decreed a national holiday and has been recognized and celebrated as the Republic Day of India, ever since.

Happy Republic Day to all DMers!!!
Mythili, Yes, we "usually" don't encourage general topic, but c'mon yaar you know that we do wish for holidays and important days here on DM. We also sometimes have post for our DM members ....so why did you think that i would delte it 😔

Btw, going back to old memories- I always remember wakign up early going to school wearing white dress and singing national anthem and then some patriotic songs and then parade to follow. We used to partice for the songs since 2 mths before the day!!! Loved that time! 😊

You know what, all those fighter planes pass over our area after flying over Rajpath..and as soon as the planes are visible on our TV screen, I immedietely run outside to see them and they are there in 1-2 seconds. It is such an enthrilling experience. 😊

I wish I were in New DelhišŸ˜†.In our cantonment also once in a year these air shows take place ,I don't run but I enjoy a lot seeing them .I really don't worry if other people are seeing or not but I make it a point to watch those planes!!!
