Mukut is an absolute jerk of a man.
I am not by any means justifying his infidelity & his irresponsible behavior towards his wife & kids.

But I think what he has become is a manifestation of his mothers restrictive controlling regime.

He was not allowed to marry a girl of his choice. He has no say in what she wears, how she grooms herself...nothing at all at an intimate level that should exist between husband wife exists between them.

Poor Kaumudi landed earning the eldest bahu title of the family and with it came tireless & literally back breaking service to all family members at the expense of time with husband.

No honeymoon, no private time with husband. She gets to her room tired after doing all chores of this joint family and has nothing left to give her husband. UB herself said that the wife starts neglecting her husband when she has to take care of home & kids & joint family.

So is this one of the curses of living in a joint family? Is Mukut to be singled out for blame?

I agree with you, TM ... while I don't condone Mukut's extramarital affair at all, I can't blame him entirely for feeling dissatisfied with Kaumudi.

Umaben told Chhanchhan that she is a good wife for Manav, but not a good bahu for the Borisagar family. According to her Kaumudi is the best bahu for the Borisagar family ... but according to Mukut, she is not a good wife for hum. Now what is more important? To be a good wife or a good bahu? And can't a girl be both?

Umaben forced her choice of bahu on Mukut ... and he is not happy. He could have protested then ... maybe he did try ... Umaben mentioned that he had left home and she had brought him back ... was this why he left home? And did she bring him back under false pretences, the way she tried to manipulate Manav into leaving Chhanchhan and marrying a girl of her choice?

UB has definitely ruined five lives with her strong set beliefs. A mother has the right to seek for a bride for her son. Yet she should look for a bride that would make her son's future brighter as well as the family. Kaumudi is a perfect bahu yet she is too busy to play the role of a perfect wife as she hardly has time on her. Nonetheless, she tries to please her hubby while also obeying the rules set by UB. With Mukut's affair, Mukut, Kaumudi, the kids, and Mayuri's life is in question. What would happen to all these relationships if they found out about the truth behind Mukut's affair? UB will easily blame the modern girl for trapping her innocent son. She will hardly ever accept her fault in this.

Good point, can a Girl be a good bahu & wife at same time? That's the balance Girls in India have been unfairly asked to achieve for ages. From Personal experience I can say that many times a girl falls short on one front in trying to satisfy the demands of the other. Here is where a MAN of steel & velvet is needed, who knows his mom and needs his wife. He should step in and cover his wife's shortcomings.

Like your post.

An extra martial affair can never be condoned but what is happening in kaumadi and mukut's life is a total manifestation of a forced arranged marriage where two ppl have nothing in comman .

the kind of companion mukut wants is a total opposite of what kaumidi is who incidently is a lovely lady. I will also like to complement the actor who is playing mukut ...their is a certain irritation in his overall behaviour , his total disinterest in whats happening in his house etc . He did his scenes very well today.

Very true ... and from personal experience, I agree with you! 😛 For a girl it is always a tightrope act to achieve that balance ... she has to win the approval of her in-laws and keep her husband happy at the same time ... not easy in a joint family. That's why many modern girls prefer to live in nuclear families and give all their attention to their husbands and children. And many modern men also prefer that ... they like being the center of their wives' lives!

I know the pain of knowing a loved one who had an unfaithful spouse. My aunt's ex-husband had multiple affairs despite being the father of two sons and married to a modern wife. It was difficult for her to move on in life as her husband left her after the split and she had to raise the kids. He funded for their education but she still had to raise her sons to young men. Thus, I always get angered to hear about disloyal spouses.

She is a strong lady. Unfortunately, she's unlucky as she has lost one of her sons recently after experiencing the joy of being a grandma. She has always motivated me to embrace my heritage but also be a girl from the 21st century. It's good to have someone like her in my life but I don't know how to reduce her pain. Anyways, it is due to this that I don't trust some men. Some of the men that I came across were verbally or physically abusive to their wives. Thus, I sometimes fear whether in the future I would get a good spouse or not.
